My first and only complaint — no one is going to the NFL from the Quakers. It’s just not happening. Sorry, UPenn, but you aren’t competitive enough in any of the divisions, and you aren’t in a division place that will ever matter. Deal.
And that is why I dinged you a star. Maybe you meant Penn State. Or if you wanted a real go, then go east to the Buckeyes. But no Quaker is going to be a first-round draft pick.
I’m really bothered by this. And this book takes place at Rixon High School. They aren’t even at UPenn yet. I need a chill pill, I know.
Cameron Chase is a bit of a douche–well, he’s been playing one in Hailee Raine’s world for a few years now. Why he’s suddenly giving her heated looks and chatting her up like they’re friends is a mystery to her. Despite her bestie’s opinion that it’s a case of a boy harassing a girl he likes, Hailee can’t fathom any like between an asshat like him and her.
I adored Cameron, and he’s my favorite Raider. Jason is a special kinda mean in his own book that you want to nurse better. Asher is that boy you can’t help but adore. But Cam is the guy you can rely on being there, true blue until the world ends. I wish only that when he is a jackass, he wasn’t so successful at it.
Rixon Raiders series is one of my favorites. It’s very similar to Abbi Glines’ The Field Party series in that it deals with a lot of similar high school football BS. I recommend that if you like The Trouble With You, that you check out that series.
Until Friday Night
My first read by LA Cotton, definitely won’t be my last. It was some of my favorite romance genres all rolled into one. Sports Romance + Enemy to lover + Best Friend’s sister! The author shoved so many angsty and slow burn moments into this book that I felt like I needed a cigarette when they finally did the deed….I don’t smoke. I LOVED this book so much, I can’t wait to reread it when I get my paperback in!
Hailee is strong and feisty, never backing down from a fight! Her and her step brother have a rivalry unlike any other I’ve ever read about. She takes his punches standing up and is already forming a plan in her head as it’s happening. It’s not just him that she has to deal with though. Being a Rixon Raider, he basically has the entire football team at his disposal when it comes to torturing his “sister”. His right hand man is none other than Cameron Chase. The chemistry between Hailee and Cameron is undeniable; they barely touch and heat spreads like wildfire between these two. You can feel the heat leap off the pages and can’t help but get excited for what’s to come. Cameron at one point has to choose whether to keep playing football and get a scholarship OR do what he can to help the people he loves. I love the choice he makes, I can see the man he will become because of the choices he makes during the difficult times of his life.
The twist at the end, I saw it coming but wasn’t sure when it would happen. Glad it ended that way and excited for the next book in this series. Even though this is a series, you could definitely read it as a standalone. I’m a serious book series junkie though, I need them more than I need tacos….and that’s saying a lot!

Spanish & English Opinion ::
ESP ::
¡emociona!
Checklist:
Bully romance
Hailee es una heroína fuerte
Cam logra redimirse

ENG ::
Because I wanted to enjoy the last book, I decided to reread the series.
This is a bully romance that changed the cliche because the love story is between Hailee and Cam, who’s BFF with her stepbrother who hates her.
Lots of chemistry, angsty moments and what promise to be an enemies to lovers between Jason and Flick, this books is a great option.
Checklist:
Bully romance
Hailee is a great heroine
Cam… makes it work at the end
Great characters
Book 1) is about Hailee, her stepbrother Jason, and his best friend Cameron
Highschool drama, Football, cancer, friendship, trust, bullies, sport, art.
The story is well written in a pace that reads very easy, characters are complex and grow as the story goes.
I loved reading it
I read all four books after each other
5 stars
I read this book last winter and I absolutely love it, Cam and Hailee’s story is so good and tragic, and they have their ups and do but they always find their way back to each other
Hailee has always tried to just make it through but her step-brother Jason has hated her for years. She used to think Cameron wanted to be friends with her but Jason again destroyed that relationship and now they hate each other. When Jason’s decisions cause Hailee to be pulled into a rivalry, Cameron decides that maybe he doesn’t hate Hailee as much as he thinks he does, but can he really make a decision between Hailee or Jason? I love these characters so much, and this story is so complex and it is more about all these friends; Hailee, Jason, Cameron, Asher and Flick. Their characters evolve as the story does. I cannot wait for the next book. I love love love this series.
To be honest I never experienced football or all the Senior Year hoorah like L.A Cotton has done in The Trouble With You a brand new series about well high school football rivalry. I loved that she pulls you in first with Jason and his pranks, the rivalry between Rixon High and Rixon East, the drama of well Senior skanks wanting to be with the football players and the drunken parties all over it came to life so easily. I loved that Cameron doesn’t play it safe with his feelings towards Hailee and wants it all with her. This is no puppy love and seeing it hit him hard was strong in him. This is not just high school love it is a love that has been brewing for years and this is the year where it explodes to a passion none of them saw coming. This is a series starting off great and boy cannot wait to see more of Felicity, Jason and Cameron definitely going to be interesting this series.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
4.5 stars
“ To anyone struggling to balance what you think you should be doing with what you want to do… We only get one life. Live it” – Is the opening dedication quote and this story hits those spots !
It’s heartbreaking and inspiring all together and I loved it.
Cameron and hailees story is an enemies to lovers , young adult sports (football) romance.
Cameron is a jerk and he’s hailees step brother’s best friend. He and his mates have a prank war with hailee due to her step brother not liking her . This prank war is quickly getting out of hand and things are changing . They are in their senior year and their future decisions are ahead of them .
Mix in some family drama , with a whole lot of teenage angst , strong friendship bonds and some strong chemistry and you have a great book !
There are a few little lose ends that I felt were missing but I’m guessing those might come up in the next book maybe , and also string emotions were Invoked for me but I didn’t cry….. – these two reasons are why the less half a star 😉
Well written great world building ! Loved it ! Can’t wait to read more of these characters
You can run but you cant hide!
Well, I finally had the chance to read Hailey and Cameron stories. Rixon Raiders were full with young teenagers with high testoterone and football egos. It brought back the memories of HS drama and first crush.
I loved that the relationship wasnt too fast. Hate to Lover yessss! Their romance were hearfelt and genuinely fell for each other.
I tend to think of high school as being much simpler times with a lot less responsibility. In a lot of ways that’s true, but this book was a nice reminder that high school seniors are under a lot of pressure wrestling with big decisions that affect their entire future. There was a lot more to this book than boy meets girl.
I listened to the Audible version. I’m a big fan of Sarah Puckett and was really happy to hear her voice. I wasn’t as familiar with Wen Ross, but the two of them did a fantastic job with the narration. I always appreciate dual narrators when the books have dual POV.
Enemies to lovers, hot football players, and hijinks. I don’t think we could ask for anything more from the start of a new series.
Cameron and Hailee have a lot going on between the two of them. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t time for something to happen and make them see the other person for who they really are and what they mean to one another.
I loved meeting the side characters, the friends that feel like family.
A touchdown, as far as I’m concerned.
Wow!! L.A. Cotton has penned yet another fabulous novel. This best friend’s sister/enemies to lovers’ story had me hooked from the very first chapter. Even though I had actually read the final book in the trilogy before this, my enjoyment was not spoiled at all.
Cameron and Hailee’s story is full of drama and angst. Cameron is your typical high school football star player. He’s got the world at his feet and a line of girls who would do anything for a moment with him. I love the relationship that he has with his two best friends, Jason and Asher, and it was fabulous to see the real Cameron emerge as the story progressed.
I adore Hailee – She’s strong, focused and caring. She has her mind set on finishing her final year at school with as little trouble as possible so she can move on in her life. However, fate has other plans for her. Hailee is Jason’s step-sister and he hates her. For the past six years, with the help of Cameron and Asher, he has played pranks on her and they haven’t always just been silly little ones either. Some of the pranks had me laughing along with the boys and Hailee but then there were other incidences when Hailee was caught in the crossfire between Jason and his rival enemy that had my heart breaking for her.
This story held my attention and kept me entertained throughout. I thought the author wrote this book brilliantly, so much that in certain scenes it felt as if I was actually there. As much as I disliked the actions of the characters at times, I just couldn’t help but grow to love them all. This first book in this series (for those reading in order) will have you delighted that the other books are available to read straight away. That’s where I am headed now, to read Jason’s story which is titled The Game You Play. ‘
I don’t usually read YA especially HS aged but this book had me from the start. Most of the characters were mature for their age so it was easy to read. There was still a bit of drama but wasn’t over the top. I loved Hailee and Cameron. Jason needs a beat down. And Asher was hilarious at times. And Felicity was a good friend.
This was the first book I’ve read by this author. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.
***4,5 “You can run, but you can’t hide!!!” stars***
“You don’t hate me. You hate yourself. I’m everything you loathe, but you want me anyway.”
I was flirting with this book for a long time and I’m mentally screaming to myself why i haven’t pick it up earlier, but now i know… I was waiting to binge reading the whole series and I’m so happy that i waited, especially after this ending and the craving for Jason and Frick’s story!!!!
I enjoyed this book so much and i can not wait to find more about everyone!!!!
I loved so much Hailee and Felicity and the three boys had stolen my heart for different reasons!!!
Seriously now… In Rixon are insane with football… Okay… We can call them fans, but in a wild way!!! And I totally agree with Hailee with this madness!!!!
“Being a Rixon Rider came with a certain set of privileges. We were treated like gods in the halls at school; and outside the school gates, around town, wasn’t much different. It was easy to get swept up in it all. The girls. The attention. The respect.”
Well, Hailee and her stepbrother, Jason, are hating each other’s guts… No scratch that!!! Jason is hating Hailee’s guts and he is making her life miserable for many years now…
One more year and she will be out of this town and this house with a tyrant living next door from hers…
But, no, don’t you think that she is just a bullying victim… The girl gives hell back to him and in a way, i think that they are enjoying way too much their rival…
But deep down inside, Hailee just want for Jason to accept her…
“He loved nothing more than to piss me the hell off and I loved nothing more than spending my days plotting my sweet revenge.”
Hmmm… Now, you will think that Jason is the other part of the equation, right??? You know, forbidden love between stepsiblings…
But no, you will be wrong if you will think it!!!!
The other part is Cameron Chase… Jason’s best friend… And in a way, a participant to this rival between Jason and Hailee…
So, there is a bad blood between them and hate… so much hate… Or not???
“It wasn’t that I wanted her. I didn’t. I just didn’t like the idea of anyone else having her either.”
“He was my step-brother’s best friend. A Raider. Not to mention, he was one of my tormentors. Cameron Chase was everything I hated.”
Well, i won’t say much more… You got the general idea…
Hailee is off limits for everyone because Jason said so… She is off limits, especially for his best friends…
But when some prank is turning wrong, Hailee is in the middle of a big rival and Cameron just can’t stay away from her anymore…
“I’d spent almost six years hating him. For being Jason’s sidekick. For standing by, even helping, my stepbrother make my life hell. I hated their stupid football team, I hated what they stood for, what they presented. But I couldn’t deny that although I hated Rixon Raiders with every fiber of my being, I was pretty sure I was falling for one.”
“But as she walked away from me, I knew I was screwed. Beacuse the rules had changed and I knew I couldn’t stay away from her.”
Well, i loved both Hailee and Cameron…
Hailee wasn’t fragile, even with all this bullying… She wasn’t backing down no matter what and that wasn’t always good!!!
Cameron was standing always against her but something is changing…
He, from the other hand, was so sweet and protective… Of everyone and that was a beautiful quality of him!!!!
He had much pressure upon his shoulders and he was divided of what he should do after all… With his life, with his family, with his future, with Hailee…
But he was a really good friend… I have to admit it!!!
“This isn’t a game, Cameron. This, us, it’s not attraction you feel; it’s hate. I. Hate. You.”
“Keep telling yourself that, Sunshine.”
“I wanted her so fucking much. But I wanted a lot of things. College. A football scholarship. A bright future. But sometimes dreams didn’t come true…”
Well, this story was soooo good… It was more than i was expecting and i can not wait to read the rest of the books….
Jason is too… much and I’m afraid that he will become my favorite at the end… Honestly, i’m waiting impatiently to see how it will be played this thing between him and Felicity…
As for Asher??? He had already won my heart and I’m afraid that in the end he will be hurt and i don’t want that for him…
Soooo…. Go riders!!!
“Don’t get too used to it. I’m still the cold-hearted bastard you all love to hate.” {Jason}

“This was high school. Kids were mean and got off on bringing each other down. But the real world, where things were hard and painful and uncertain was waiting for them. High school didn’t define me. I knew my worth, and this moment, right here, defined me.”

Hailey has endured Jason’s antagonizing torment For 6 years. That’s when She an her mother moved in with his father. He’s only her stepbrother, but what did she do to deserve his evil pranks? Why did he hate her so much? Hailey is a strong, sarcastic , stands up for herself. All she wants is to survive her senior year, only to have a prank gone too far. The pranks were first between them, now it’s going viral. Jason is the QB of the Rixen Raiders and his best friend Cameron is one of his teammates. Cameron secretly has a crush on Hailey. Does he betray his friend Jason by seeing Hailey?Cameron has enough pressure on him, football, problems at home, college! This story is about teen angst, jealousy, trust, betrayal, love, sex, revenge and of course football.
Sarah Puckett and Wen Ross narration is wonderful to listen to. They captured every emotion, voice of each person in the story and bringing it to life! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. I was gifted the audio and am offering my honest review.
**4.5 Stars**
Wow, this was my first read from this author and I was completely hooked from the start. I went into the book completely blind and was unsure of where exactly the story was going to go. Hailee basically has an on-going rivalry with her stepbrother who is the school’s and town’s beloved quarterback and who can do no wrong. She is somewhat of an outcast and has only one close friend.
The book focuses a lot on some back and forth pranks between Hailee and her stepbrother and his group of friends and the impact it has on her. It also focuses a lot on football and the importance of football for this group of guys and on a rivalry between their school team and another high school team, which Hailee unfortunately also gets caught up in. While all of this is going on it seems like maybe Hailee’s stepbrother’s friend Cameron isn’t entirely the bad guy he has always seemed to be. There are moments where their interactions seem entirely different. Although Cameron started off one way in the beginning of the book, I couldn’t help but find myself rooting for him as the book went on.
There were some parts of the book that seemed not entirely completely realistic, however, still entertaining and since I read for fun and am aware that not everything in books will always be based completely in reality, I still found this book to be 100% engaging. I didn’t want to put the book down as I was dying to know how the story was going to play out and I cannot wait to read more about these characters. Hailee’s friend Felicity was definitely an enigma throughout the story, and this book definitely left off in an interesting place with her, so I will be interested to check out book two in the series.
When I read the synopsis of this book, I wanted to read it immediately. I felt drawn to it and the same happened while reading. I enjoyed the story each time more.
The relationship between Hailee and Camaron was a difficult spot for me. I mean, I liked them together but at the same time felt that it was too much sometimes especially with Cameron’s behavior. However, that pull-and-push was so addictive that I couldn’t stop reading. As soon as I finished reading, I went online to read the extra stories and I was very pleased with everything.
Now, I’m really excited about the second book. I have the feeling it’ll be amazing (that couple is just ^^)
The Trouble with You (Rixon Raiders, #1)
Enemies to lovers, slow romance with all of the angst.
There was so much drama that I just couldn’t put it down,
because I had to know what was going to happen.
I definitely recommend that you read it
Thank you!
I really liked this book but there were a couple of things I wish had been different/more developed.
1. I wanted more interaction between Hailee and Cameron. There didn’t seem to be enough scenes with them to truly make me root for or feel the connection of their budding relationship.
2. The characters really needed to be college age. It would have been a bit more realistic for me. I’m not saying high school kids don’t act this way but it felt a bit over-the-top.
3. The characters annoyed me in how they dealt with/handled what happened to Hailee when her and Flick went to a party. I mean, I get all of the characters are frienemies and all but when something like that happens, you put your BS aside and do something about it.
I do plan to read the next book.
All Hailee wants to do is get through High School, and move on. When you live with the Alpha Bad Boy of the school and have to deal with his two best friends when your life is falling apart at the seems it’s all a girl can do to survive. Add to the fact that her step-brother and two friends make her life a living hell just because they can makes life even harder. Hailee has Felicity to lean on and unfortunately Felicity gets all the “perks” of being being her friend. These two just want to make it through.
Hailee has history with Cameron who ends up wanting the one girl he can’t have, and is forbidden to him. This book goes through their trial’s and tribulations of finally coming together and figuring things out. Their chemistry is great, and even when things are bad I could still feel the longing they felt for each other. After all of the bad one can only hope they get to keep their happily ever after!
