Ever since Reyes escaped from a hell dimension in which Charley accidently trapped him, the son of Satan has been brimstone-bent on destroying the world his heavenly Brother created. His volatile tendencies have put Charley in a bit of a pickle. But that’s not the only briny vegetable on her plate. While trying to domesticate the feral being that used to be her husband, she also has to deal with … with her everyday life of annoying all manner of beings–some corporeal, some not so much–as she struggles to right the wrongs of society. Only this time she’s not uncovering a murder. This time she’s covering one up.
Add to that her new occupation of keeping a startup PI venture–the indomitable mystery-solving team of Amber Kowalski and Quentin Rutherford–out of trouble and dealing with the Vatican’s inquiries into her beloved daughter, and Charley is on the brink of throwing in the towel and becoming a professional shopper. Or possibly a live mannequin. But when someone starts attacking humans who are sensitive to the supernatural world, Charley knows it’s time to let loose her razor sharp claws. Then again, her number one suspect is the dark entity she’s loved for centuries. So the question becomes, can she tame the unruly beast before it destroys everything she’s worked so hard to protect?

I am such a huge fan of this series and I just love Darynda. This book was full of humor, action, and some steamy romance. Charlie and Reyes’s are amazing. It was nice to get to see more into Reyes’s other identity. I had got behind on reading so it took me awhile to get around to reading this one but once i picked it up I couldn’t put it down. Another amazing book in the Charlie Davidson series!
Hold the phone! What just happened? Did it really end that way? WHAT!?!?
Charley can’t stop thinking about the innocent souls trapped inside the god glass. So when she comes up with a plan to go inside, Reyes insists to go instead. Unfortunately, when Reyes comes back, he isn’t the same. He looks like him, feels like him, but he is angry and mistrustful of Charley.
I couldn’t put this down, and I don’t want this series to end. I’m so sad that the next book will be the last.
Love this Series! Charley is a hoot!
Ms. Jones is a sadist! I have felt as much during the previous books in this series, but after surviving everything this one encompassed and then reaching its ending, I know it for a fact.
My heart was nearly broken at the end of book 11 so I was a tiny bit relieved that things with Reyes and Charley, while dire, did not continue down a long and angsty road. I should have known better because after all, this is Charley we’re reading about. The girl’s got spunk, and attitude and coffee. All of those things help her to reach this book’s conclusion, which I should have known was going to devastate me.
This one, while familiar, also had a different feel to it as Charley is battling so many different issues along the way, most of all the issue of finding Reyes within the god that is now controlling him. I love how in each book, this one included, Charley’s cases seem to build upon each other, how exactly always unknown to the reader, until they culminate into an awesome reveal and then usually followed by a huge showdown.
We once again have the amazing cast of characters to help her along. Somewhere along this journey they have become like family and while I can’t wait to start the final book, I’m going to be very sad to see them go. Nevertheless, everything has been leading to the next book and the ending of this series and I refuse to yield to the sadist who controls the fans of Charley Davidson…I’ve got an early release copy and I’m jumping in!
This is the penultimate story in this series and it is packed full of all manner of goodies…. emotional thrills and chills, sexy fun, witty banter, devious danger, earth shaking secrets and heart pounding twists that will leave you breathless. Can Charley and company really save the world from total destruction or is the end inevitable? Can’t wait to read the last and final book in this series but at the same time I am sad that the series is ending. Love this magical and exciting world.
Charlie has a love for coffee that rivals my own! I think she might be my spirit animal! Darynda does it again! Can’t wait for the next and *gasp* final book in one of my all time favorite series!
What a thrill ride, what a case, what a cliffhanger! I’m enchanted with this series and cannot WAIT for the next book to see how it ends! Thanks to Darynda Jones for bringing me the joy of Charley, Reyes, Cookie, Uncle Bob, Osh, Amber, Quentin, Swopes, and the rest of the gang! LOVE THEM!!!
I can’t think of too many series that remain freakin-fantastic once they hit 12 books, but THIS series is definitely one of them. Charley’s one-liners, the friendships, the fabulous secondary characters, Reyes, the mysteries, Reyes–did we mention Reyes?…it’s all perfection. I can’t say much more than that for fear of giving away major plot points, but if you’ve been a fan of the series up until this point, you’ll love this one, too. And for anyone who hasn’t read the series, I feel really bad for you. You’re really missing out! 5 stars isn’t enough. Can I give it 12 stars??
Full disclosure: We received an ARC from NetGalley.

This series with Charley as a reaper, her husband Reyes (God’s brother) is always mysterious, humorous and just a very well written book. Can’t wait for 13.
I devoured this book in one sitting. I swear this series plays with my emotions both in fantastic and devastating ways. I couldn’t wait for Charley to find a way to bring Reyes back and I really thought he was gone for good but what a twist it turned out to be. I did not see that ending coming and I knew what Charley would do before it even happened, I mean come on it’s Amber. Amber is family! We all saw what Charley would do for Reyes, now I can’t wait to read what Reyes will do.
In The Trouble With Twelfth Grave, Charley “accidently-on-purpose sent Reyes into a hell dimension”. He returns not himself but as another version, a malevolent being called Rey’azikeen. Charley must protect her loved ones while trying to get Reyes back.
“…is there anything you want to say to Garrett?”
Reyes lifted a shoulder. “Sorry I killed you.
Repeatedly.”
I love the fast pace of this story. Charley’s biting, snarky wit kept me entertained while sitting on the edge of my seat and gnawing off my fingernails with worry for all of my favorite characters!
The audiobook is amazing with impeccable narration that entertained me completely!
-5 Stars!-
I binged all 12 books and 3 novellas in less than a month if that tells you anything. I’m too invested in these characters and am unglued that there is only 1 more book coming (and that’s 6 months away!). My prayer is that we get a spinoff series. I am not ready to say goodbye to these beloved people.
This series is getting better and better each book. I have been in kind of a book funk lately and could not get into any book I was trying to read (they were mostly romance books). So I decided to switch and go back to my old self –> Catch up on my favorite Urban Fantasy series. This series is on the very TOP. This book has everything I want and need in a book. It is funny, action-packed has just enough romance in it and a lot of paranormal elements. This is the only series where I gave all books 5 stars.
HERE IS WHERE THE SPOILERS BEGIN!!!!!! SO BEWARE!
Let’s discuss what happened in this book, I loved how we skipped eight months and could at least see Beep be born in this book. Beep is how I will be calling my unborn child (when I get pregnant, I need to find a man first though). I love Reyes so much, he is the ultimate alpha boyfriend, and I want one for myself!! The stories about how the ghosts died always has me crying, and it was the same in this book.
Darynda has mentioned a spin-off series that most likely will focus on Beep. There was a few sentences where I got the idea that Osh will play the love interest of Beep in this spin-off (I could be wrong because it was very late/early in the morning). I need to go back and read this chapter again.
OMG the ending had me losing my mind!! I normally do not like the whole memory loss element, but can definitely see it happening to Charley in the state of mind she was. I thank Darynda for giving us Reyes POV at the end, otherwise I would lose my mind going crazy because of the cliffhanger. I need to get an ARC of book #9 ASAP!!
I absolutely adore this series even when the Twelfth left me…Nooooo, your killing me Darynda Jones..killing.me.-lol-loving this book!!

Thoughts: OMG that was quite the cliffhanger!!! I hate it as much as I love it lol. I could not put this book down to save my life. There was always something happening that kept my eyes glued to the pages. One of the best roller-coaster rides, so many twists and turns full of surprises. And Reyes is still a panty-dropping, wish he were really mine book boyfriend, sigh. Charley is her usual self, sassy, badass and funny as hell! As awesome as that was, I now have the anticipation of waiting for the next book *cries. Guess I’ll be having a book hangover for a bit lol.
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work and chose to write a review.
Ms Jones will steal your money if you read this book. Please go to Amazon for my 1 or 2 start recommendation. I have been faithful to the series, but this “right here” was highway robbery.
Charley Davidson is back in a non-stop action filled adventure that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.
If I had only one word to describe this book, I would have to go with unpredictable but luckily I have more than one word because this book is worth many more. The unpredictable word is very fitting because there are many twists and turns and a conclusion that will knock your socks off because I sure didn’t see that one coming. I have to admit that for the majority of the book I didn’t see how Charley could possible come out on top of the latest troubles in her world which kept me glued to the pages as Charley and all the other wonderful characters set about not only saving the world but also saving Charley’s family.
It is a bit of a roller coaster ride with lots of hair raising thrills and chills and of course snarky dialogue that catches you unaware and startles a laugh out of you because of Charley’s unique view of the world and how everyone fits in it. This book doesn’t have a lot of romance scenes but hey how much more romantic can it be when one has to save the love of her life from certain death.
Once again, Darynda Jones has written a funny but electrifyingly exciting book that readers can’t put down and I can’t wait to find out what happens next in Charley’s world. One last thing, for those of you who have not read the previous books, then you could become a bit lost because you missed the events that let up to this point and also because Charley’s penchant for renaming people and things may throw you off somewhat besides you would be missing out on Charley’s fun, thrilling adventure of a life.
Darynda Jones’ New York Times bestselling paranormal series, Charley Davidson is back with its twelfth installment. And s*** hits the fan when Charley opens a hell portal in The Trouble with Twelfth Grave.
Charley is a grim reaper who runs owns her own PI business. She is happily married to Reyes, the son of Satan, who has a god-like personality that is currently under wraps. Charley has always had the gift to see and speak to other celestial spirits. She is contacted regularly by the local police department to speak to spirits that are trapped in between worlds and help solve the many unsolved cases they have.
Charley decides she wants to go to the in between to help save the lost souls. Of course, Reyes being the macho man that he is, says he will go instead. This shouldn’t be a problem, right? Well it is. Though the lost souls are saved and sent on to heaven, Reyes is not quite himself. Murders are happening all around town and with Reyes MIA he is looking like the prime suspect. He needs to be found now. Charley and her mixed bag of friends have a plan to bring Reyes back. Will they be able to stop Reyes before he destroys the world?
I really liked this book, especially the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. It’s classic Darynda in any Charley novel and they bring a bit of Charley’s personality and comic relief. This book, as is the case with the ones before it, is a fun and entertaining read. If you haven’t read them yet, I suggest you do. Start at the beginning, Charley, Reyes and co. are so worth it. FIVE grim reaper stars.
Audiobook review: Adventurous story with Charlie once again leading the way. This time Reyes is the one afflicted with an internal battle. Charlie once again solves multiple mysteries. Though the story was entertaining it felt the overall story didn’t advance the overall theme of the story until maybe at the very end. It’s a story that I’m not sure that I would recommend to a friend or not or listen to again. The narrator did a good job!
First let me say, I love these books and this one is no exception. So many places, had me laughing uncontrollably with tears streaming down my face (it is so hard to read with tears between your eyes and reading glasses). Excellent story, the end left things hanging and I dislike thinking we are close to the end of this wonderful series but now am anticipating the next. Rock on Darynda.
