Ever since Reyes escaped from a hell dimension in which Charley accidently trapped him, the son of Satan has been brimstone-bent on destroying the world his heavenly Brother created. His volatile tendencies have put Charley in a bit of a pickle. But that’s not the only briny vegetable on her plate. While trying to domesticate the feral being that used to be her husband, she also has to deal with … with her everyday life of annoying all manner of beings–some corporeal, some not so much–as she struggles to right the wrongs of society. Only this time she’s not uncovering a murder. This time she’s covering one up.
Add to that her new occupation of keeping a startup PI venture–the indomitable mystery-solving team of Amber Kowalski and Quentin Rutherford–out of trouble and dealing with the Vatican’s inquiries into her beloved daughter, and Charley is on the brink of throwing in the towel and becoming a professional shopper. Or possibly a live mannequin. But when someone starts attacking humans who are sensitive to the supernatural world, Charley knows it’s time to let loose her razor sharp claws. Then again, her number one suspect is the dark entity she’s loved for centuries. So the question becomes, can she tame the unruly beast before it destroys everything she’s worked so hard to protect?

Reyes is not in good place, and he’s not as was. Let’s just say that he might be making Daddy proud. Charlie has this whole new title resting on her scared shoulders. Someone or something is killing gifted people and Charlie needs to find answers while protecting her friends and dealing with this not right Reyes. Life is messed up, but Charlie never stops looking for answers, and a distracting laugh. The ending, oh my, I cried. To do such a noble thing to be struck with such a cost, sorrow fell hard. My poor favorite characters, bruised but never beaten, I hope.
Ms. Jones, you are wickedly good at this. You took my heart through the shadows, through the rubble, into the struggle for good/evil, life/death, love/faith, and then threw me into a dark ravine with no bottom in sight. I loved it, couldn’t get enough, and want more pain and laughs.
if you love snark, romance, action, love and coffee read this series.
The Twelfth and penultimate book of the fantastic Charley Davidson series. This one answered questions from early on, added a few new ones, and made my jaw drop with the ending.
I love getting glimpses of the various secondary and peripheral characters. They have their parts to play, too. I also love how despite all the crazy things that keep happening, in addition to the very serious mystical/god issues, Charley and Reyes continue to evolve. Their relationship has had a lot of ups and downs and it seems like they are doomed so often that I can’t image how they can come back from it. But they always do, eventually, at least so far… Hopefully, in the final book they will get a Happily Ever After. I know I will certainly be rooting for them.
I am excitedly waiting for the final book! Oh, what a double edged sword. I truly wish the series wasn’t ending.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the complimentary ebook. All opinions are my own. Review posted on NetGalley, Amazon, Goodreads, and BookBub.
I love this series so much! Charley is a fantastic character. She’s hilariously witty and very positive regardless of the difficult challenges she faces. I really enjoy that she is far from perfect, she knows she has flaws, and yet she’s still one of my favorite fictional females. Reyes is a steaming hot alpha male with a bad boy attitude but is fiercely in love with Charley, even if he did just get back from a hell dimension. I’m very happy with how the series has gone so far and I absolutely cannot wait for the 13th book!
4.5 The blurb pretty much lays it all out for you, but the verbiage is pure Darynda Jones. Charley is her usual coffee drinking, snarky self, doing 2o things at once an her brain going in all directions. It took me awhile to catch up, but I enjoyed the ride getting there. Reyes, ok not Reyes, yes Reyes, no not Reyes (just read the book ) was as hot as ever, ok maybe hotter. I was floored with what transpired with Garrett, I laughed out loud and almost peed my pants when Cookie went undercover as a bad lady (yes there is more to it than that) and Uncle Bob asked Charley “WTF is my wife doing” OMW just thinking about it makes me laugh all over again. The ending was no, no, no don’t let this be true. Than it was fixed, and ultimately we are left knowing there is a price to pay, a big price.
Thank you Net Galley and Darynda Jones for the opportunity to read this arc. All thoughts, opinions (misspellings) are my own and were unsolicited.
Best series ever
First off let me say that this is one of my favorite authors and series and I will never get tired of reading this story over and over again as well as the entire series that grace our book shelves.
OMG! Another fantastic read that was filled with so much suspense and humor. The story had a cast of unique and fun characters.Charley definitively has group of interesting friends all with interesting personalities and talents and I have to say that that we love reading about them as well.
Charley never disappoints she always makes me laugh and she still amazes me at the lengths that she is willing to go to protect and the ones she loves.Charley is a fiercely loyal friend .
I love everything about Charley especially how fiercely she loves.I love that she has a sense of humor ,I love how she loves coffee and it is her vice as it is mine.A like seeing her doing something she was born to do and how she helps all those lost souls. The cases she investigates are always intriguing and exciting and we are always looking forward to how she solves them. What I love most about Charley is that she is always so laid back she is a god after all and a grim reaper to boot but acts almost normal or as normal as a supernatural element can act.Just down to earth as well as sweet kind, loving and loyal yet one of the most deadliest beings on earth.
I have to say that the story constantly kept you on edge as we were always looking for the Axe to fall.I love how Charley had faith and hope in Reyes knowing with her heart that he would never betray her or their love and always do what it takes to keep their daughter safe even when common sense tells you to do the opposite.
The saying must be true that the heart will always recognize ones soul mate in no matter what shape or form and that was true for Charley when It came to Reyes.I loved how Reyes even not being Reyes at the present recognized the connection he had with Charley and how protective and jealous he was over her even not knowing she was his wife.Reyes is sex on a stick for sure whether he is acting good or bad we still love the bad boy even when things are not what they seem.Reyes and Charley create heat and fire when ever they are together but when their intimate things are hotter than hell.No matter what name Reyes is going with he always need a good dose of Charley to keep him happy and sane .
I loved the story from cover to cover it was intriguing and intense and full of twists and turns and many surprises. This story was quite the page turner as I never put the book down until it was finished.
I love when you can connect with the characters you read about and I was able to do that with this cast of characters as I loved them all with their quirky personalties they made this story all the more interesting.I love all the Chaos that surrounds Charley all the time as her actions and deeds make me laugh constantly through out this current tale.
We learned a really big secret this time around and I have to say that I never saw that coming.I was awestruck!
Favorite quote:
“Okay,Fine,You’re a god.How would you track and capture yourself?””I’d lure me with coffee then keep the cups coming.Trust me I would go anywhere.I doubt that would work for him though. Not all gods enjoy java as mush as I do.”
5 stars from us
Another superb read from a fantastic author.
Goes in to the keeper pile!
Recommended read to all and the entire series as well you won’t be disappointed. These characters are why I love reading series so much as we can never get enough I our favorite characters.
The Trouble with Twelfth Grave, book 12 in the Charley Davidson series. Reading author Darynda Jones, a Wonderful way to loose day(s) and/or night(s). The only negative, waiting period between each new release… Please, Many More!!! books for this series. The main character Charley Davidson, PI, police consultant and Grim Reaper. Her husband, the son of Satan, has no interest in being his father’s heir. Darynda Jone’s writing is intriguing, captivating. Addictive. Action and Suspense. Thrilling ride with unpredictable twist and turns. Romance. Masterful dark humor. Strong storyline. Characters for ongoing reading relationship. Each book can be a standalone BUT don’t cheat yourself. READ THIS SERIES!!! I received this book as an ARC from St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley. I am voluntarily posting this review. A Must for any reading list!!!
I have loved this series from the beginning and this new one just adds to that feeling. With Reyes acting strange Charlie, along with her friends, must figure out what is going on with him. What is making him act differently, and is it something serious? Meanwhile Charlie is working on a case and it’s not something that she can just let fall through the cracks. With everything that is going on will she be able to help those who need her and those she cares about? Charlie is such a well developed character, who I’ve enjoyed seeing grow with each new book. I’ll be sad when the last book is published but know in the end she’ll come full circle and be that much stronger a character for it.
HOLY SHIT DARYNDA!!!!! How can you do this to us? I had a heart attack with that ending. I am now dying inside. What a cliffhanger!!! Argghhh. OK, enough freak out! I have to give you the props you deserve. *clapping* Bravo! Bravo! Another amazing book. I could not put it down.
So in this book Charley is at it again. To many pies in the oven at the same time. She has Reyes acting like a feral mad man, Pari is being questioned in a murder, the Angels are restless and on top of all that she is dealing with a madman killing special people. Wow! What’s a girl to do? Can she tame her husband, solve Pari’s issue, keep the Angels happy and catch the killer before he strikes again?
This series just keeps getting better and better with each book. Darynda is an amazing author. I swear her inner Charley is kicking ass! I am so in love with the characters and will be extremely sad when it ends in the next book. Hopefully it won’t be the end of all the characters stories. I am hoping that Osh and Beep will continue on in a spin-off. He is so cool and good-looking. Easy to crush on.
Reyes and Charley have such an unbreakable bond. The love they have is forever and it seems to get tested at every turn. Charley is so loyal to Reyes and her loyalty and trust in him is really tested this book. I fall more in love with them at every turn, as I see how far they are willing to go for each other. They are amazing!
This book has so many twists and turns, you won’t know what to think. And when tragedy happens close to home, you will go WTF!! NO!!!!! But of course Charley will try to save the day, but at what cost. A total action packed thriller, with plenty of ohhs, ahhs and hell nahs!!! You better be prepared to read the whole thing in one sitting, because once you start page one you damn sure won’t put it down till the end!!
Favorite series
This one had my emotions all over the place. Another wild ending that has me immediately reading the next book. I love all these characters. They are like family. I need the next one!
The Trouble With the Twelfth Grave #12 in the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones is one of the few fantasy series I keep up with. These books are chock full of emotion, action, and friendship–perfect for rereading. The characters are semi-back to normal and more is revealed in “things I must know section”, and there are new revelations. It felt like this book went by so fast, there was so much to absorb. Can’t wait for the last book, yet I do not want this awesome series to end!
I read the back cover copy of this book before I read book #11, so I’ve been dying to find out how and why Charley sent Reyes into a hell dimension and if she can win him back.
I don’t want to give any spoilers, but this story didn’t disappoint. In fact, I laughed pretty hard. I got choked up. I swooned. I had to cover my eyes and blushed.
If you’ve enjoyed the Charley Davidson series, this one won’t disappoint (though you may want to have book thirteen ready and waiting because you won’t want to wait to read it after you see how this one ends!).
R-rated for sex and language.
I loved seeing Reyes be scary, and awesome, strong and bad. It was great! Seriously. I enjoyed this installment of the Charley Davidson series and I’m dying to start the next one!
I can’t believe this series is almost over. Its been quite a ride. I’ve enjoyed the books and ask the characters. Charley and Reyes are the best.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.
I liked the story, for the most part, even if I did figure out the clue before Charlie did. If you stop reading a few pages before the end, you’ll escape the cliffhanger ending and have a nice feeling of being finished. I really don’t like cliffhangers, but I like Charley and her entourage enough to keep reading these as long as the library gets them.
As much as I love this series and I’m sad that it is ending soon, this was not my fave book in the series and I absolutely hated the ending. The whole thing about schizophrenic Reyes evil god thing was a terrible storyline and the nonsense at the end in Beep’s room was lame and really kind of stupid. Anyway, I still LOVE Charley and Reyes and the whole wacky gang (was absolutely hysterical during Cookie’s striptease scene) and will most certainly complete the series. I guess I would have given 3.5stars if I could.
I received a Netgalley copy for review purposes.
Once again this series had me laughing and crying. Charlie is on the top of my list for favorite female characters. She’s strong, funny, and caring. The worlds that Darynda Jones create are vivid and will pull you in. I lose myself in the story. I have become emotionally invested in the entire set of characters that Charlie and Reyes have collected as their army over the series. By the end of this book I was ugly crying and as usual was left NEEDING the next book. This series remains one of my all time favorites.
I can NOT get enough of CHARLEY DAVIDSON, REYES ALEXANDER FARROW and the rest of the gang!!!! <3
Darynda Jones does it again, not just paranormal but a lot of humour thrown in.
I was struggling with the beginning, mainly because I was thinking no, it can’t be like this. There’s always a twist though and I never see it coming. There is a lot going on, little sub plots everywhere that will wrap up soon enough. I think the author has a lot of fun stepping into the shoes of this sassy character, also I think she’s addicted to coffee!!!
This was a fun read, a little dark in places and heart stopping in others.
The ending!!! She did it again, made me hit the last page button on the kindle thinking it can’t be over here….so when is the next book out?
