Dear Lady Truelove,I am a girl of noble family, but I am painfully shy, especially in my encounters with those of the opposite sex . . . For Clara Deverill, standing in for the real Lady Truelove means dispensing advice on problems she herself has never managed to overcome. There’s nothing for it but to retreat to a tearoom and hope inspiration strikes between scones. It doesn’t—until Clara … scones. It doesn’t—until Clara overhears a rake waxing eloquent on the art of “honorable” jilting. The cad may look like an Adonis, but he’s about to find himself on the wrong side of Lady Truelove.
Rex Galbraith is an heir with no plans to produce a spare. He flirts with the minimum number of eligible young ladies to humor his matchmaking aunt, but Clara is the first to ever catch his roving eye. When he realizes that Clara—as Lady Truelove—has used his advice as newspaper fodder, he’s infuriated. But when he’s forced into a secret alliance with her, he realizes he’s got a much bigger problem—because Clara is upending everything Rex thought he knew about women—and about himself. . . .

A wonderfully romantic escape, The Trouble With True Love, is a captivating read starring a very determined heroine and the sort of hero you wish would come bursting into your office 🙂
Clara Deverill is in a bit of a bind. With her sister away on her honeymoon and her brother’s return to England postponed indefinitely, she has no choice but to run her family’s newspaper business. Which wouldn’t be so bad if it only consisted of managing the employees. But unfortunately it also means becoming the infamous Lady Truelove, which poses a bit of a problem since Clara has no idea how to offer the necessary advice the Lady Truelove column requires. Until she happens to overhear a private conversation between two gentlemen involving a detailed outline of how to continue bedding a woman without having to marry her. Outraged and inspired, Clara embraces her new persona in an effort to warn all women of men and their devious trickery.
Rex Galbreith is an undeniable flirt and a well-renowned rake who never plans to marry. But then he meets Clara and everything changes. Because this beauty appears to have no interest in him at all while also disliking him for reasons he can’t quite seem to figure out. Until he discovers she overheard him telling his friend how to avoid marrying his mistress and that she has in fact written an entire article about it in her newspaper. Furious, he threatens to tell the world that Clara is Lady Truelove, but instead, she turns the table on him and he finds himself not only working with her, but falling for her in ways he never would have thought possible.
This story was thoroughly entertaining, consisting of an interesting plot and strong characters who struggled against the irresistible tug of true love. A read I would thoroughly recommend without question and one which can be read as a stand-alone although the prequel, Dear Lady Truelove, is definitely worth grabbing as well.
A true Laura Lee Guhrke story that delivers her brand of romance and humor that you will love. Clara is the younger sister of Irene, who does the Lady Truelove column in the family newspaper every week. While he sister is away, Clara is in charge of writing the column and finds herself in a conundrum of what to write about! Very shy and lacking in self confidence, Clara was fortunate one day to overhear a conversation between Rex Galbraith and one of his friends. Rex is known as a rake and Clara feels she can use some of the conversation she hears in her column. One thing leads to another and Rex and Clara work together to aid each other. What they don’t expect is the intense attraction that evolves pretty quickly between the two. There is a lesson in this story of possibly not judging a book by it’s cover. The story goes through the gamut of humor, strong emotions that evolve and attraction that cannot be denied. When the last page was turned, I realized I could not wait for the next story by this author. She never disapoints!!
I always look forward to the enjoyment of a Laura Lee Guhrke book and this one is no exception. It has wit, romance, wonderfully human characters, a bit of steam, a dilemma, and a happily ever after. Really, what more would you want?
One of the best romances I’ve ever read <3 A definite choice for the favorites shelf!
Spellbinding! I was hooked from page one, and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Another fabulous story by a gifted author.
What a great book! One of my favorite authors has done it again! I couldn’t put it down. From beginning to end, it was fast paced; the plot, the chemistry between Clara and Rex were ever evolving. The humor in the conversations just added to the enjoyment. Both characters grew enough to blend while still holding on to their own ideals.
My favorite author! Everything she writes is fabulous!!!!
The Trouble With True Love by Laura Lee Guhrke is a complete page turner. This is turning out to be an absolutely fantastic series! I love the chemistry between the characters, the slow burn of passion made this a tantalizing romance. I was able to really connect with the main characters in this book, they were very likeable. The writing was beautiful, wonderfully worded and lots of emotion. A very well rounded story. Loved it.
I really liked this book. Both the characters were great and the story overall was really cute and well written.
I do know it is second book in a series, but I wanted a different story than the usual enemy to lover trope, and here it was more a friend to lover story.
I do liked that due to the circumstances of her first encounter with Rex, Clara never felt shy in her presence, he broke the image of the perfect Adonis by his speech against love, why in his presence she rather never feel compiled to hide or look away.
« Though he was still every bit as good-looking now as he’d been a short while ago, she could no longer see him as some sort of golden, windblown god. All she saw was a deceitful cad who toyed with women and encouraged others to do the same. »
Around him, her heart flutters but she can contain it, she also for the first time feels attractive even when she doubts of herself. He gives her some confidences, so much she will slowly take matter in hand and make her own decisions.
Rex is no real rake, he is just a man who grew up with the wrong background as picture of love, so much it steeled his resolution to never love nor marry. Clara will shatter everything, from his first meeting with her, he can’t keep her out of his mind, she follows him everywhere and tempts his very resolutions to act the perfect gentleman when he only wants to kiss her senseless.
He is the one man able to see the raw diamond behind the stone.
« When Clara Deverill laughed, when she smiled, it lit up her face—hell, it lit up the room—and sent any notions that she was plain straight out the window. »
They are total opposite when one longs for love and mariage, the other abhors it like pledge. But they are drawn to another, their share such a chemistry they are at ease together, not afraid to trust each other with their more intimate secrets.
It was a slow and unusual courtship, oscillating between friendship and carnal desire.
And during their time together and apart, they grow to become and comprehend what they really expect from life.
A good read about finding the meaning of true love.
I truly enjoyed this book. The witty banter and well developed characters kept me turning the pages and anxious to return to the book. A fun and romantic read!
I enjoyed this book very much. Although I did not completely buy in to the whole female empowerment stuff for that time and age. I think the characters in the book had it way to easy if they were truly Representative of the working women of the time. Loved the interplay between main characters and often found myself laughing out loud with the sassy comments from our leading lady.
