Lions and tigers and skunks, oh my! Kandi Cain’s a psychic pet detective. Her cases range from wrangling baby goats, to finding lost critters. Her current case is rescuing a lion from a Nigerian warlord. Kandi knew dressing up as a demonic clown and walking a lion down a city street would freak people out. But, wow! She didn’t expect Armageddon. The hot as hell Detective Dutch Callaghan’s on her … Callaghan’s on her trail again and showing more than a professional interest. Kandi’s talents have attracted the attention of a CIA black ops agent who wants her to steal twelve endangered white tigers from a Pakistani warlord. The mission’s crucial to prevent a terrorist attack.
Wait! What? Terrorists? What had she gotten herself into? Kandi wasn’t a superhero. She couldn’t bend steel with her bare hands, and she wasn’t faster than a speeding bullet. She’s Doctor Doolittle. She talks to the animals and occasionally the dead.

Making the connection
This book is going to make you laugh until your sides hurt. This is my first experience with this author and I loved it. Not only did she fill this book with laughter, but she threw in danger, action and adventure, love and lust. I really enjoyed the way she built each character into these strong personalities and the dialogue is not just funny but so realistic, and the story is able to stand on its own. Of course, now I just have to go back and read the first book. I can’t wait to read another book from this author.
I’m dying my abs definitely got a workout
Hi-jinks ~ Shenanigans ~ with Kandi as she dives headfirst into trouble taking Dutch and Dad with her
This is a blend of cozy mystery, outrageously impossible story lines and a wonderfully descriptive cast that is the definition of entertaining
It gives the reader a little bit of everything
excitement, romance, a touch of suspense and a whole lot of
laughter all wrapped up in all the feels
I was a bit shocked when it came to some of our past cast.
I can’t believe Harry honestly after everything? And Samson?
After we got glimpses of him in book one I knew he was determined didn’t realize to what extent though
And Mom … I love mom
I’m excited for the next in series
These books are so fun!
I’ve always liked the tone of her stories, and this one is no exception. It’s a playful, fast-paced adventure filled with unforgettable characters, not only with Kandi but her family, too.
Gail clearly draws on her experience as a 911 operator for inspiration, and that adds a “real life” element to this otherwise sort of “out there” story.
Between the laughs and the “what’s gonna happen next?!” moments, I quite enjoyed this one!
(I was given this book in consideration of my honest thoughts)
After the exciting mischief and mayhem that was Shenanigans, I couldn’t wait to see what came next for psychic pet detective, Kandi Cain, straight-laced cop, Dutch Callaghan, and a bunch of other colorful and quirky characters not all of the human variety. Kandi’s trouble magnet ways lead her into so many scrapes, but this time she has help between a client getting her circus tiger back and a CIA tough who won’t take no for an answer when it comes to taking on some terrorists. Hijinks ensue and a good time was had by all.
The Trouble With Tigers is the second installment in the series and works best in order when the characters and the world are all introduced.
In this latest, Kandi is fending off Dutch’s interest to keep him from developing an interest in her dad’s very dark past and because she really doesn’t see it working out to have a straight-laced cop mingling with her family and her own not always legal affairs. But, Dutch is sticking tight and especially since she’s been involved in a few animal rescue-related contretemps that might have involved the police getting called. But, now, a desperate woman wanting her beloved tiger back leads to deadly danger and Kandi gets embroiled in more than she can handle alone.
Like the first book, this was light and fun, plenty of hijinks, some spice, and quite a bit of excitement. Kandi has a big heart and is all about the animals. She can communicate with animals and control them. She can see dead spirits and help them cross over and she can touch an object to learn about its owner whether human or animal.
Samson, the CIA guy, who discovered her gifts in the first book is back and seeking to exploit her which is at the heart of the adventure. Well, one of the adventures since there were a few before the big one. Always hilarious when she gets the animals involved and her dad goes into serial killer mode.
I enjoyed seeing Dutch stick to it when it came to Kandi. A lot of guys would have run away fast whether it was her gifts, her animals, her troubles, or her scary parents, but he doesn’t and he respects the strong, gifted woman she is. He had her back all the way and I loved that he got past her hesitations and earned her respect, too.
It read fast and paced well. I was left satisfied, but also wanting more Kandi Cain adventures. Those who enjoy light urban fantasy comedy should definitely give this sassy series a go.
