(A standalone Heartbreaker Bay novel) If she has her way . . . Willa Davis is wrangling puppies when Keane Winters stalks into her pet shop with frustration in his chocolate-brown eyes and a pink bedazzled cat carrier in his hand. He needs a kitty sitter, stat. But the last thing Willa needs is to rescue a guy who doesn’t even remember her . . . He’ll get nothing but coal in his stocking. Saddled … in his stocking.
Saddled with his great-aunt’s Feline from Hell, Keane is desperate to leave her in someone else’s capable hands. But in spite of the fact that he’s sure he’s never seen the drop-dead-gorgeous pet shop owner before, she seems to be mad at him . . .
Unless he tempers “naughty” with a special kind of nice . . .
Willa can’t deny that Keane’s changed since high school: he’s less arrogant, for one thing–but can she trust him not to break her heart again? It’s time to throw a coin in the fountain, make a Christmas wish–and let the mistletoe do its work . . .

This is such a fun holiday romance! Anything Shalvis writes is on my auto buy list!
Love JIll’s books.
I loved The Trouble With Mistletoe for the fun, energetic characters, the holiday cheer, the uniqueness of WIlla and Keane, and the different perspective on Christmas in California for this Midwestern girl! If you’re looking for a romantic Christmas story to start or end the season, grab The Trouble With Mistletoe to read by the fireplace!
I love this Heartbreaker Series by Jill Shalvis. Just finished this one which is the second in the series. I enjoyed seeing Willa and Keane get together. Definitely a story about love, friends, and second chances. Looking forward to the next in the series.
We met Willa Davis in the previous book, best friends with Flynn. With an alcoholic mother and a no show father, Willa Davis spent most of her formative years in the foster system. With lack of love growing up, she has developed into a giving woman, taking many girls who have aged out of foster care under her wing. She owns a pet shop and has a strong friendship with the others who live and work in the building. She is in no mood to help Keane Winters, who as a young man stood up her shy self in high school, when he knocks at the shop door for day care for his aunt’s cat. But she feels sorry for the cat. Keane is immediately attracted to this beautiful redhead and can’t understand why she is so made at him. As she learns more about him and as they spend more time together, she learns that people aren’t always what they seem. She wasn’t the only one whose childhood lacked for love. While she is very good at giving love, she doesn’t accept it for herself. Can these two open up and see what they have been missing?
This author is one of my favorites and I have never read one of her books that has let me down, especially because they always have animals.
Good author
3.5, but easily bumped to 4. This is the second in the Heartbreaker Bay series. It’s a feel-good story about love, family, friends, and trust. Especially for the two commitment-phobes, Willa and Keane. Jill Shalvis writes in a style that is easy to get lost in. Her characters are engaging, the story moves at a good pace, the setting is always somewhere fun, and the romance is sweet with a side of steam. I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with one of her books.
So many feels in this book, I laughed and cried and got frustrated, thinking get your act together but knew it would come together in the end and I’d love the journey.
Jill Shalvis is always an easy read, making me happy as I dive into her books.
This is the tail…er tale of Willa who runs a store for pets and accessories and ends up pet sitting a cat for Keane. She knows him from high school but he doesn’t remember her. There is attraction from both of them but Willa doesn’t want to admit it as she feels he let her down at high school.
Willa has a big heart and grew up with so many problems that her distrust holds her back from finding love.
I loved the other characters in this book and the town, they make me keep wanting to return.
This journey of love will have you howling with laughter in between the teary moments. I loved the ending, such a feel good moment.
In The Trouble with Mistletoe, the second book in the Heartbreaker Bay series, a pet shop owner and a reluctant cat owner fall in love in the most unusual of circumstances. Willa Davis never forgot when high school football star and resident heartthrob Keane Winters stood her up in the Sadie Hawkins dance. Now he’s standing in front of her with a bedazzled cat carrier and no memory of who she is. Keane Winters is befuddled, first by his Great Aunt Sally leaving him with her precious cat and second by the gorgeous pet shop owner. But first he needs a cat sitter and he’s willing to pay! When Willa and Keane can’t deny their attraction towards each other, a one night deal turns into another one and another one and another. Pretty soon, one of them is balking from a forever future.
The Trouble with Mistletoe, was a slow going at first but with its small town charm, the obvious pet loving environment and characters that are a great ensemble, readers will definitely will fall in love with this holiday romance. Willa and Keane have their issues but its the way they resolve it in order to go forward is definitely realistic. The sex is hot, the romance sweet but the falling and staying in love is the real story to read.
This is a rather adorable sweet book. I have not read the first in the series, but that did not diminish my enjoyment of this one.
Keane and Willa are an unlikely couple on the surface. He doesn’t remember her from high school, much less how he let her down.
They are thrown together when Keane is entrusted with his aunt’s cat. They slowly work out their issues with each other and with their respective pasts, to reach their HEA. Both of them have serious growing up to do, and at times I despaired of them. Fortunately it all works out in the end.
First off I loved the cat Petunia. As a cat lover she was hands down my favorite character. This book just sucked me right in. It is everything I’m looking for in a book by Jill Shalvis. It has my number one favorite thing, humor. The characters are fantastic. They’re very engaging and relatable. This book also has me ready for the holidays and as one of those crazy Christmas people two thumbs up for this book. I highly recommend this book. You won’t be disappointed.
I was trying to find some fun Christmas books to read during Christmas season, and I feel like I hit the jackpot when I found Jill Shalvis and Heartbreaker Bay. Not only did I adore this book, I instantly went on to other books in the series and they were just as good! I new to the Jill Shalvis fan club, but I would like to announce my card carrying status.
This book drew me in from the start! Willa and Keane go way back. The problem? Only one of them remembers it, and they are not fond memories for Willa. Willa has been through a lot in life, and her previous interactions with Keane didn’t make life any easier. Keane isn’t exactly what he first appears to be either. While he seems to have the perfect life, there is a lot to learn about him. With their history against them, what will happen when they meet for the second time and sparks fly?
Not only did the storyline keep me going, the characters were fantastic! I loved Willa and Keane. Willa collects people (and animals) to love and save, but she has a hard time letting others in to really love her. I hurt for her past, and loved her for the person she became. While there isn’t a lot of time devoted to her past, we see and feel how it shaped her into who she is today. I also loved Keane. While he’s made some mistakes, he is a really good guy, but he doesn’t seem to really know it. Not every guy would take care of a cat that seems to find every possible way to torture him just because his long forgotten aunt asked for help. I loved the way he changed throughout the story!
I loved learning about Willa and Keane, but I also loved seeing Willa’s group of friends and learning more about them along the way as well. What Willa lacks in family, she makes up for with her wonderful group of close knit friends. Each of them had their own struggles and unique personalities. Shalvis created enough intrigue that I immediately downloaded and read the next book in the series regardless of my ridiculous TBR list.
The writing in this book was great. There was wonderful character development, twists and turns that kept me intrigued, romance, and a much deserved happily-ever-after. Add in the fact that it had animals and a Christmas theme and you’ve pretty much described the perfect book. I listened to the audio copy of this book and it was well done. I definitely recommend reading this and all of Jill Shalvis’s Heartbreaker Bay books!
Great characters and a fun read
Loved this book!
If you are looking for a great author you can’t go wrong with Jill Shalvis!
Good book, but not one of her best. Character development isn’t very deep.
