“Whoa! I’m shook–emotionally and physically–from this sensational romance. K.k. Allen has outdone herself with The Trouble with Gravity. With her silky-smooth style and unique storyline, this enemies to lovers journey is one of my favorite reads of 2019.” USA Today Bestselling Author, Harloe RaeKai’s life is a series of choreographed steps, each one shielding her from the tragic memories of her … tragic memories of her past. Audition, dance, paycheck, repeat. It’s a broken record, but it’s what keeps her world spinning.

When I get through the Prologue and I’m already an emotional mess, then I know the story is going to grip me all the way through. The Trouble with Gravity is about Sebastian and Kai who have both experienced some setbacks in life and in different ways are trying to confront their fears/mistakes/failures. They don’t much like each other at first and that adds a good amount of tension to the story.
Kai gets hired to dance in the last run of Sebastian’s broadway show and so in a sense, he is her boss…. I love the forbidden feeling of the story. And there were points where I needed to stop because I was afraid of what was coming next.
And with all of the books in this series, you get dance videos! I can’t tell you how much I think that adds to visualizing the show in my mind.
The Trouble with Gravity is a fantastic read and hands down, my favorite in the Gravity series. It has everything we love in a K.K. Allen book, but taken up a notch. She delivers an angsty, slow burn, enemies-to-lovers romance that leaves you craving more. This beautifully written and well developed story was touching, sweet, sexy and held me captivated from start to finish.
Kai’s backstory is heartbreaking and raw. My heart still hurts for her. Having to endure such a traumatic event would be difficult at any age, but as a child it is even more devastating. To have your world ripped apart like that is just so annihilating. But she is strong, resilient and her drive to overcome her fears was absolutely admirable. And Sebastian? He is sexy as sin but a bit of an arrogant jerk. He too is scarred by his past, hence his ill-tempered persona, but deep down he has a heart of gold.
The relationship between these two got off to a rocky start, but it finally reached a turning point when they connected over their fears. Together they were able to face their demons and heal from these past wounds. And the chemistry? SIZZLING HOT! The two of them were absolutely electric. I enjoyed their heated moments just as much as I did the sweet and supportive ones. The only way to describe their love story is EPIC! K.K. Allen really delivers with this incredible journey that is brimming with all of the feels.
4.5 stars
I don’t know how KK Allen does it, but she brilliantly delivered another dancing romance, that plays your heart mind and soul. Sucks you right into the world of love, drama, fame and friendship.
Her words are dancing with you heart from the first page to the last!

Bash and Kai’s story will have you in all your feels. The beginning was heart wrenching. These two broken souls find a friendship and love that bonds their hearts together. Loved all the banter. A definite must read and worth so much more than 5 stars!
The Trouble With Gravity by K.K. Allen is Kai and Sebastian’s story and it had me hooked from the first page. These two are both broken for different reasons. The chemistry is instant when they meet. This is beautifully written and takes you on an emotional journey. I loved this book so much and highly recommend it!!
REVIEW: 2.5-3 STARS
“He was my anchor in a raging storm.”
My husbands says, “I thought you were reading!” To which, I replied, “I am!”! He then comes back with, “Is your book singing to you?” HA!! “Uh, no! Coordinating YouTube videos! So cool and so unique. I love it!” <-- That was how my book started out. I was so excited to jump into Kai and Sebastian's story because I just knew I was going to be swept up in another dance book with a love story that was going to make me smile. Unfortunately, this one, for some reason, didn't read as smooth to me as the previous two books in this series - the flow felt off. What’s weird for me is I didn’t have a hard time picturing their love story playing out because her words were so descriptive, but I had a hard time feeling it which is awkward for me to say because KK Allen's always given me those physical feelings when I’ve read her books. I'm sad to say the butterflies didn't come until later in the book either. But, it was a slow awakening and a worthy growth that eventually emerged between these two. It’s not bad - because obviously she told a story that moved me and made me envision a love that spanned artistry and emotion, but I read more with fascination than with emotion this time. Again, not bad - just.....different. The predictability was quite prevalent in this story - as if the writing was on the wall. It didn’t deter me from finishing, even though I could mostly figure out what was going to happen, but I found that there wasn't really a challenge to this story, so it read pretty easily. It was an easy going, sweet story about a young lady overcoming her past in order to move on in her career....oh, and throw in some drama. And then more drama. And then, more. The drama at the boat was even ridiculous. By then, all this drama had piled up and it didn’t make sense to throw that much more at this couple - the groundwork was already set, the story was moving forward. Throwing more wrenches in didn’t do anything but pull me away from the built up passion I was finally feeling at this point in the story. The probable emotional impact I wanted to feel suffered greatly for me at that point. And then....the fight at the end was STUPID. Kai's anger hindered my ability to connect with her even more - which I hated because I’d hoped by this point in the book that I would be more sympathetic toward her and would feel more for her plight. I just didn’t and I struggled with any sort of connection that I should have felt. "You always come harder when you're pissed off at me." The push and pull in this one was easy to follow because it was marred by secrets and worry, fear and pain - the normal trajectory and natural push in a book. But, it just felt different for some reason. I am not even entirely sure I can put a finger on the disconnect for me. I loved the dynamic between Kai and Sebastian and I loved their camaraderie because they meshed well. They worked in silent tandem without even knowing it. However, their age and their actions didn’t line up for me. She felt/acted younger than the 28 we were told she was and some of Sebastian's inward thoughts proved a little feminine with his analogies, but he was definitely a man/jerk in other aspects. I saw flirting and fighting mirroring each other. I told myself I needed to calm down enough to write my review and not sound so mad. While I know my emotions drive my reviews most of the time, I wanted to stress that this story was a good one. The writing is wonderful and easy to follow as usual, so I'm not sure I understand why it didn't work for me. I really love KK Allen's stories and her characters and I haven't really complained before. It's just that this one took a dip into the drama section and there was a bit much for me to enjoy without rolling my eyes or getting agitated. My final thoughts: Kai's immaturity coupled with her brash attempts at being mad at Sebastian for stupid reasons, and then add to it the level of unnecessary drama - this one just didn’t work for me on so many levels. I think my favorite thing about this entire series is she's giving a voice to dancers and their sport, and she's giving me a visual for the artistry and the passion that flows through her characters' bodies. That's my favorite part. I have loved this entire series so far so I'm hoping this is a one-off for me. This was a true standalone in her Gravity Series and they are all able to be read in any order. This really was a good addition to her series...it just wasn't my favorite. "He was arresting in the worst - and best - possible way." ~BEE
Wow, loved this beautiful, heartfelt story. Kai has been through some traumatic past events that still effect her, but she is strong enough to try to over come them. Sebastian has that bad boy persona to everyone, but is there more to the story? Kai and Sebastian have that burning chemistry, but choose to hate each other, and at the same time help each other move past their fears and issues. This story pulls you in and you won’t help but fall for Kai and Sebastians back and forth banter. Definitely read this fantastic story, you’ll want more of Kai and Sebastian.
Oh my goodness Kai and Sebastian’s story is amazing. Kai auditions for a Broadway production and Sebastian is the talent behind the show. They are a fiery couple and I love all the dance clips included in the book So Good! Hot, sexy exciting read. Love Love Love
You know a book is going to be good when you’re crying in the prologue. For two days, I lived and breathed this book. Kai and Sebastian are magic, and their story is so, so special. Kai is one of the strongest heroines I’ve read this year. Even in her vulnerability, she still shows your strength and courage. She faces a lot of fears and anxieties with so much grace. It’s truly inspiring. Then you have Sebastian. His trust issues are so deeply rooted, it makes him act like an ass to everyone. But I loved the chapters from his perspective. You really feel for him and understand why he acts the way he does. The push and pull of his actions towards Kai as he figures out if he’s willing to trust again is so good. I was rooting for him to get his crap together the whole time! I love how these two characters challenge and encourage each other to be their best selves. Their HEA is super satisfying.
As will all of the books in this series, I love the video links to the dance videos. It really helps bring the story to life in a new way.
*ARC received for and honest review.
Overall Grade: 1/2
“‘But’ — he lowered the main halyard, and the sail started to come down —’if you’re one with nature, like this…’ He continued to take tension off the left downhole before cranking the main halyard back up then replacing the main sheet with the reef line. The sheet puffed as wind filled it with a heavy thwack. He’d just made a smaller sail out of a bigger one to work better with the changing winds. ‘Then the wind will always be on your side.’”
When I met K.K. Allen as an author for the first time, it was after reading an ARC of Defying Gravity. I love dance. I love watching it and doing it (when given the opportunity, which isn’t often). There is something beautiful about the art form that captures my heart, so when I realized she was writing a series about dancers, I HAD to read the books. When I applied for the ARC of Defying Gravity for an honest review, I was excited. As I started reading it, I fell deeply in love with Allen as a writer because she is doing something that other romance writers aren’t: incorporating multi-media to help our imaginations understand the dances of her book. In my review for that book, I was effusive about her brilliance in doing this. When the blogger sign-up for The Trouble with Gravity hit my email, I knew that I would once again traverse into Allen’s universe of dancers. There was absolutely no doubt in mind because I knew she would take us on a journey of dance and romance. And The Trouble with Gravity did NOT disappoint.
This book follows the dancer, Kai. This book begins with a flashback, a moment in the past that becomes a moment of change for Kai. It affects her emotionally, causing her a fear that potentially derails her future. As Kai’s journey begins, we know a couple of things: she’s a hardworking dancer and she desperately needs work as her bank account is low. She isn’t destitute, as she has fellow dancer friends who will help her, but Kai is independent, and she wants to earn a living by dancing. A job opportunity becomes available, something different than her normal auditions. She doesn’t know the details behind it prior to her audition but she knows she needs the work. On the day of the audition, a reckless motorcyclist takes a corner sharp and splashes water onto her, potentially wrecking her look for the audition. Angry, with little time to change, she quickly prepares herself, fixing the problem, only to find that the unapologetic motorcyclist, Sebastian — the bad boy of Broadway, is the creator, composer, and pianist for the musical that Kai is auditioning for. Remaining professional, she dances her heart out and earns one of the lead spots. Needing the job, Kai expects to accept the offer even though she doesn’t like the creator of the musical; however, her fear, the one created in her youth, makes her deny it.
Recognizing that Kai is the best fit for his musical and trying to avoid casting the former dancer who originated Kai’s role, Sebastian needs Kai for his musical. He pursues her, intent on helping her overcome her fear while casting her in his musical. Attracted to her, he struggles to remain professional instead of falling under her spell. Kai and Sebastian’s love-hate relationship creates much of the spark of this story, and you wonder if these two can ever find their happy ending.
What are the reasons that you should read K.K. Allen’s The Trouble with Gravity?
*This book is a multi-media experience just like Defying Gravity. To ensure that her readers understand the movement of the dance and its significance in her story, Allen incorporates the YouTube links for the dances that inspire the dance in the book. As someone who loves this art form, I love this extra component of her book, as it sets her writing apart. It heightens the reading experience, helping us connect more with her characters and their stories. There aren’t many other writers adding this layer to their books.
*You’ll love to hate Sebastian, the hero of this story. Sebastian is a complicated character in that he’s struggling with his past and its issues. He wants retribution against his producer for the sins of their pasts, and this causes him to be hot-headed and impulsive in his treatment of others. He’s unapologetic in his early treatment of Kai. This causes you to initially want to throw your book across the room. He makes choices that self-sabotage their journeys, and it’s frustrating at times. One minute, he adores Kai, working to help her overcome her fear. In the next minute, he becomes cruel, creating distance between them due to their roles in the musical. When he finally accepts his longing for Kai, it transforms him, and the Sebastian later in the story becomes one of your favorite characters. He falls deeply for Kai, and it changes him. The later Sebastian is a composite of people who finally forgive themselves and others for the hurts perpetrated against us.
*Kai is the crowned jewel of The Trouble of Gravity. She is the impetus for change in Sebastian’s life, but she represents inner strength. Through her journey, we recognize the message of Allen’s book: that trying to control every variable of our lives leads us to miss out on the opportunity to live a full life. Both Sebastian and Kai struggle with “gravity” (control). As Kai begins to let go of her fear, she models for Sebastian a bigger and better life. She is passionate, determined, and the epitome of strong womanhood. She is the only character able to challenge Sebastian to become a better person, as such she was my favorite person in this story because she exudes strength and power.
Many of us struggle with giving up control. It weighs us down, anchoring us to our pasts, our fears, or our sins. When we allow ourselves to fully live life, no matter the circumstances, we become free, weightless, connected fully to our emotions. K.K. Allen’s The Trouble with Gravity illustrates this message beautifully through dance, character development, and a plot that pulls you in from the first page. There is something special with Allen’s voice in the romance world, and readers far and wide should take advantage of the stories she’s peddling. They will challenge and entertain you in ways that other romance writers simply don’t.
The Trouble with Gravity is an incredibly beautiful, emotional, and heartwarming story. It will take you on the most incredible journey of love and passion. It will give you all the feels.
Kai Ashley is a dancer at Gravity who’s struggling with her life. She gets an opportunity to perform in a show composed by the Broadway musician Sebastian Chase. The only trouble is her tragic past is holding her back from accepting the offer. Sebastian needs her to join the cast, and he did everything to try to convince her.
Kai was such a sweet, strong, and determined character. It was amazing to see her overcome her fears with Sebastian’s help and grow even stronger. Sebastian was an intriguing and complex character. He was rude, arrogant, and closed off because of his past, but he actually has a heart of gold. I liked that they both supported each other with their fears and passion.
I really enjoyed reading Kai and Sebastian’s story! I loved the slow build-up of their relationship. Their chemistry was everything in this story, and it leaped off the pages. I also enjoyed their flirty banter.
K.K. Allen does it again! The Trouble With Gravity further solidifies the Gravity series as one of my favorite book series of all time!
In TTWG, Allen introduces readers to new characters in the Gravity world – Sebastian “Bash” Chase and Kai Ashley.
Sebastian and Kai are very broken people. Alone, their fears and demons eat away at them, preventing them each from experiencing life and living it to the fullest. But together? Wow.
I don’t even know if I have the words to express how much I loved this book. I knew from the first page of the prologue that this book was going to pull me in for one wild, emotional ride. TTWG isn’t as angst-filled as the other books in the series. Instead, the relationship between Sebastian and Kai develops in such a way that these two are in the heart of being in love before they even realize they’ve crossed a line.
Sebastian is fantastic. Though he comes across as an arrogant, egotistical jerk, he really is quite charming and sweet.
Kai has a fire inside her and seeing it come to life is so very beautiful.
I love the way this story is told. The push and pull between Sebastian and Kai reminds me of the ebb and flow of the ocean, and their relationship is a perfect reflection of how gravity works. Allen provides links throughout the book to various dance videos that do an amazing job of not only showcasing what is being described on the page, but that also serve as an aesthetically pleasing representation of how drawn to one another these two are.
With the Gravity series, Allen has created a truly unique and interactive reading experience. And I highly recommend it!
This is the third book in this series and can be read as a standalone. Although once you read this book you will definitely want to read the others,Center of Gravity and Defying Gravity .
Kai is a dancer, but life and jobs are not always on her side, now she is left with a dilema, either take a Dream job that totally takes her to place she has never ever wanted to return to or to be broke and struggling even more. It doesn’t help that the owner and star of the show is a man she really should avoid at all costs.
I think this book, No I know this book is my favourite so far in this series.
Both Kai and Sebastion stole my heart right from the start. Both with high walls around their hearts yet both with hearts that needed to be loved. Each with separate issues and both were really perfect for each other. The only problem was that neither could see it. They were both people determined to succeed, both give their best. I loved their humour, and sassiness. Kai always give as good as she got!! And sebastion definitely had all the right moves to melt you into a puddle!!
Right from the beginning i felt like the cat that got the cream, I couldn’t wait for them to realise what was right there in front of them. It was so easy to laugh right along side them, everything about them just felt so real and normal!! Their growth from colleagues, to friends, to lovers had me giddy with romantic fuzzy mush, yet my tears fell freely with their journey through their pasts and pain.
Beautifully written and a book that truly captures you. This author never fails to capture your heart in all the right ways
I thoroughly enjoyed the final book in the Gravity series. I loved Sebastian and Kai and how they met, their relationship, and all the sexual innuendos (lol). There is some drama, a little angst, lots of steam, and appearances from some of the past characters. Sebastian and Kai are on FIRE. There is so much tension that builds between them until they can’t deny their attraction towards each other anymore, despite their first meeting and how they hated each other. They’ve grown close and care about each other a lot. Sebastian is dealing with his past and people in it and wants nothing more than to move on. Kai is battling her own demons, and Sebastian is there for her every step of the way. The perfect ending to this series!
Oh wow this book was just fabulous!!!
What a terrible start to life Kai had, she had a beautiful relationship with her father and it was taken away from her in the blink of an eye. She lost everything including her love of the ocean.
She swapped her love of the ocean for dance and what a dancer she became. That girl put every ounce of her being in to her dancing and she caught the eye of the hot as sin Sebastian in the process.
She aced her audition and won the leading role to a show that could change her life, little did she know just how much her life would actually change.
Sebastian really helped kai face her past in order to help her with her future. We saw how much she struggled and fought against it but she was brave and really faced those demons head on. Sebastian was became her best friend and rock and she quickly learned she needed him in her life.
This book was just full of highs and lows and so many emotions, it just grabbed you in from the start. Seriously a book that has you almost in tears in the first chapter is a serious winner.
I have loved the Gravity series and I’m so happy to have finally read this one. An absolute winner and I definitely recommend this to everyone.
4.5 AMAZING star to a new to me author. Loved the quick whit and love of this couple.

The Trouble with Gravity is a great addition to this series. It may be the best book in the series. I’m a huge fan of KK Allen. She does not disappoint. I always look forward to her writing. She’s just so refreshing and her stories are gripping. Five stars!!
Talk about riding an emotional rollercoaster!! Oh man!!! The prologue sucked me in and punched me right in the FEELS!! This story is SO MUCH MORE than just a love story!! This is definitely my favorite book by K.k. Allen!!!
Kai has lived a hard life, and when she meets Sebastian, it looks like things are about to get way more complicated for her. When Kai and Sebastian finally open their hearts, nothing and no one can stop these two!! Talk about the love of a lifetime!!
I received an ARC from KK Allen for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This may very well be my last book review for 2020 and if it is, I am so thankful I got to end the year with Kai and Sebastian.
This book had me from the very beginning and I think if my home life wasn’t so busy, I probably would have finished this over the course of two days. KK Allen has a way of writing emotional books that make me want slow down and enjoy every bit of sadness and happiness that her characters experience.
Kai was beautifully written and as tragic as this book started out, she remained strong and make the most of life, even when all the cards were against her. I also loved how she didn’t hold back when asked if she was a fan of Sebastian after her audition.
“I’m not doing a walkabout in my smalls.”
“Your smalls?”
“Undies, knickers, bum huggers. Why? What do you call ‘em?”
“Definitely not smalls”
Sebastian started off as a douche canoe, but over time you saw that the Bad Boy of Broadway wasn’t as bad as you thought he was. I will however never get over his puddle splashing incident.
“I might have even avoided that puddle. Okay, I would never have splashed her on purpose. As funny as that was, I wasn’t the type of bloke who would go out of his way to Shamu a woman for attention.”
The banter with these two are what I loved the most. I haven’t read a book in a bit with such girl power banter. Kai didn’t take shit from Sebastian and didn’t hold back. I also loved the slow but steady relationship progress these two went through. Sebastian and Kai both have secrets and scar from their past that carry over into their future. However, reading them overcome them and build trust is beautiful.
I would have to say this book is a enemies to friends to lovers. I would also highly recommend this book for anyone to start 2020 off with an emotional read.
My last book for 2019 and I couldn’t have picked a better one!!! I absolutely love the fact that this series has so much dance in it, even though I can’t dance it just gives you this euphoric feeling!
To say I was on the fence about these characters in a understatement!!! I was so unsure of my feelings most of the time. I’m not sure if that’s because of me or the characters but the unknown feelings left me giddy with anticipation! Kai is a woman who had tragedy hit her hard and where most of us would crumble it only seemed to inspire her. The talent oozing off this woman seemed magical and everyone knew it.
I had so many theories about Sebastian but NONE were what really happened! He is such a huge mystery most of the book and while you kept getting glimpses of the man he is you couldn’t help but wonder what’s really going on….
The whole book in general moved me emotionally. It was not only inspiring in ways but you couldn’t help but hope for certain things to happen. Believe me when I say what happens is going to shock you! Once I started this book I couldn’t put down but life kept getting in the way. Congrats on this new best seller I’m sure it will be!!!
