HE PUT HER ON A PEDESTALWhen Celeste Gray arrives in the sleepy village of Brixcombe-on-the-Bay, she thinks she’s one step closer to leaving her notorious past behind. She even suspects the deliciously handsome—if somewhat stuffy—viscount next door is developing a tendre for her. That is, until the day Ashlin Lancester learns she’s not the unassuming spinster she’s pretending to be. NOW SHE HAS …
NOW SHE HAS FARTHER TO FALL
After a decade of proving he is nothing like his profligate father, Ash is horrified to have given his heart to a Cyprian. He launches a campaign to prove his attraction is nothing more than a sordid reaction he can’t control. But he soon learns that unlike his father, he can’t find comfort in the arms of just any woman. He needs Celeste. When he takes her as his mistress, he’s still not satisfied, and the many late nights in her arms only make him want more…

The premise is interesting. The idea of a peer marrying a demi mode is interesting. But the sisters have to ruin themselves for the plot to work. And while a school for the fast set can be run by a retired high flier, a respectable school can’t be run by a spinster from a ruined family. So it is implausible for Lucy’s school to be a success. Just as the idea of having Celeste and Ash’s children be accepted in society. So, the story doesn’t work. It in fact sounds like a backstory for a girl who has to overcome obstacles of her birth. Her mother and father were a love match, but the world scorns the legitimate offspring of a Lord and his former mistress. The world waits for her to fall from grace. As it puts her further and further on the shelf.
I love a story of someone wanting a fresh start. I’m looking forward to reading the stories of the other characters.
Great story
If you love romance and suspense with a dash of hot and steamy science. That leave a bit to your imagination, the you’ll love this book. It kept me reading. I can’t wait to read the next one.
This was a little different than what I expected. Good storyline. Characters were likable and story was unpredictable. I really enjoyed it.
I loved reading about these characters and the times they lived in. I was right there with them as I read this book. This was very well written and much enjoyed.
Interesting flawed characters dealing with inner demons
A unique Regency romance with wonderful characters.
The fun of this book is that we have a wicked smart, unapologetic and boldly sexy courtesan who can hold her own with any man. And the man in this case is his own kind of sexy, batting his own demons, and putting up with his sometimes-demonic younger sisters. Their conflicts are entertaining and understandable. This story benefits from slightly unorthodox characters who each have some quirks and issues and don’t always act wisely. Their path(s) to true love do not necessarily proceed straight and easy. This is a fun, clever novel that a lover of Regency will enjoy.
The writer does a great job helping to feel what each character feels, but the ending is not as realistic as I suspect.
Great book
Great book. Very entertaining
I understand what story was trying to tell me, I just couldn’t keep an interest in it. Only read a few chapters before moving to the next. So sorry.
Didn’t like. Didn’t finish
Enjoyed immensely! Vivid characters, realistic depiction of the era, loved the story line!
I liked the story, but too much sex.
It was a uniquely different style of romance novel. Not in the traditional sense of the love interest is a heiress or damsel in distress. Refreshingly honest.
Dull dry do not recommend tooo slow lost interest.
Couldn’t get into it. There was all this ridiculous simmering desire before the characters were even developed and there was no plot to speak of. Didn’t finish – just too boring.
Interesting journey to a happy ending.
