What are friends for?Wallflower Cate Cabot has always been content to keep the world at arms’ length, particularly from behind the register at the upscale Floridian boutique where she’s worked for the last nine years. Her days are filled with old-moneyed locals and nouveau-riche tourists, most of them paying her no mind as she rings up their lavish hauls.Until Odessa DuVernay. At first glance, … up their lavish hauls.
Until Odessa DuVernay.
At first glance, she’s just another picture-perfect Palm Shores trophy wife—until she proves herself personable, humble, and unassuming. She even goes so far as to take a genuine interest in Cate, inviting her for lunch dates, matinees, and girl talk—a refreshing change of pace for the woman who never quite mastered the art of making (and keeping) friends.
But what begins as an unlikely friendship detours into the unthinkable when Odessa leaves Cate a panicked voicemail asking to meet—and then ghosts her. And worse—when Cate attempts to find her, it’s as if the enigmatic Mrs. DuVernay never existed at all…
Consumed, Cate refuses to stop searching. But the truth won’t come easy.
In fact, it could cost her everything.

What’s real and what isn’t? That’s the million dollar question. The Trophy Wife is a decent psychological thriller about 3 women from different backgrounds being prisoners of circumstance, of themselves, and of fear, in a slow-churning brain scratcher. The suspenseful first 70% builds slowly to some surprising twists and revelations in the kinetic, last 30%. Nothing about these women is what it seems, and there’s some really effective sleight of hand in the character development to keep us off-balance.I found it entertaining, quietly suspenseful, and unable to second-guess all the clues and revelations, with a good final punch in the last scene.
Great psychological thriller! Cate has worked in a high end boutique for nine years. She has a boyfriend that she keeps at arms length and doesn’t have a lot of friends. So when the lovely Odessa DuVernay wants to befriend her, Cate decides that perhaps she should turn over a new leaf and open herself up to new people. I was reading, everything was going well, and then WHAT? I had to reread a bit before I could start to make sense of the first indication not all was as it seemed. I became as obsessed as Cate with trying to figure out what was going on. Such a great story, and I really enjoyed Cate’s character, her curiosity, and ultimate growth by the end of the story.
I received a copy of this book. My honest opinion is voluntarily provided.
A psychological thriller that will keep you flipping the pages. Love the story line and all the twist and turns. The characters where very well written and kept you guessing on what would happen next.
I love a good suspense book where the author keeps you guessing from the moment you start the book. Then when you think you have it all figured out you are hit with a twist and then a turn and realize that you don’t have it figured out at all. Sunday Tomassetti has delivered another book that definitely keeps you guessing about Cate and Odessa. I don’t want to spoil anything for this read, so if you are into reading a book that will keep you guessing then please go read The Trophy Wife.

5 out of 5 stars
This book was just WOW!!! There are so many twists and turns your head will spin-off. You really have to read and think when reading this. I never in my wildest dreams saw the end coming and I’m sure you won’t either. I guess it is a good thing I was never a detective. I loved this book and it is the only book I have ever read where I want to go back and read it all over again. Whatever you do, do not skim over any of it. Highly recommend!!
