But their one night fling turns into something more serious, and Caroline finds herself drawn into a dangerous world where the myths she studies become terrifyingly real.

Loki has been my favorite god for as long as I can remember reading mythology. He goes by different names and forms, but Loki is my favorite incarnation. And then when Tom Huddleston brought him deliciously to life in the Marvel movies, I counted myself lucky. Yeah, yeah I know he doesn’t LOOK like Loki, but since he’s the master of illusion, does that really matter?
The Trickster’s Lover is a love letter to Norse mythology. Samantha MacLeod has created a beautiful and perfect contemporary blending of classic mythology and the modern world. Her characters are compelling and so easy to fall in love with.
I love that Caroline starts with trying to convince herself she isn’t insane when Loki first appears in her life. But really? What would you do if faced with the reality of a Norse god in your studio apartment in Chicago? Her relationship with Loki was a wild ride of emotions, running the entire gambit, but what else would come of falling in love with the God of Chaos?
MacLeod brings Loki to life. I love the way she weaved the myths into a living breathing larger than life man. Loki isn’t good or evil. He’s chaos, an agent of change to move the action forward. And there was plenty of action. MacLeod not only brought Loki to life. She also brought the entire pantheon and myths into the 21st century. While many of the names are now familiar due to the recent popularity of the Thor movies. MacLeod weaves in more classical myths and stories, bringing some lesser know characters into the spotlight.
I can’t wait to read more of Loki and Caroline’s adventures.
From the moment I started reading this book I could not put it down. Just to think that the God Loki could actually fall in love with a human was absolutely wonderful. I really enjoyed all the characters of the novel. I am looking forward to reading the next book, The Honeymoon. I am sure it is going to be as good as the first one. You are truly a gifted writer!
I was given an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary review. I thought this was a great book, very imaginative. The characters were realistic and likable. I enjoyed this story. I look forward to reading more books in this series.
This held me in suspense the entire time I was reading it. This had so many twists and turns that kept the story alive. I love the story line of how to fall in love with a god and how to save the nine realms. The characters are well developed, had wonderful personalities and were completely relatable. The chemistry between Caroline and Loki was HOT, HOT, HOT!!! This took about four hours to read, but it was so worth the time. I highly recommend this book and I look forward to reading book two in the series The Honeymoon. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Steeped in mythology, this super heated romance will pull you into the world of norse gods. The heroine falls in love with none other than god Loki and the adventure starts. Interesting characters, full of action and adventure with a happy ending…much recommended.
This story is an interesting introduction into the lives and loves of the Norse Gods, in particular, Loki. It tells how Caroline, a young lady who is studying the Norse Gods and their mythology, finds herself sexually involved with Loki and falling in love with him and he with her.
She is stronger than she thought and she uncovers many hidden truths and then together with friends and family works towards saving the 9 realms, including earth., from total destruction.
This is such an amazingly interesting adventure. It really held my attention throughout and is well written and very entertaining.
I highly recommend it as an unusual and extremely enjoyable read.
I voluntarily read a free ebook which I received from the author and this is my honest and unbiased review.
could not put this book down until the end. I may have wanted to pop Loki a few times but it was a really great read.
The start to a new series called Loki this is a fairly long book to read but well worth the time it takes to red it. Loki and Caroline Capello’s story has suspense, drama, danger, twists, turns, Norse god mythology, steamy, and romantic. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Initially, I had a bit of trouble relating to our main character, Caroline. If a stranger showed up in my apartment in the middle of the night and cut off my clothes, I can’t imagine my response would be to become overcome with lust. But then, I’ve never had an encounter with a Norse god, so who knows? Part of the pleasure of reading is to experience what life might be like for other people, and Caroline’s situation is certainly different—if you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to try to balance work, friendships, and trying to obtain your PhD along with an erratic romantic relationship with a Norse god and saving the world from Ragnarök, well, this is your book!
As the novel progressed, I did start to relate more to Caroline, although she still frequently made decisions that made me wonder if perhaps she’d been dropped on her head a few too many times. Her characterization is consistent, it just didn’t always make sense to me that someone so intelligent would make such bizarre choices. I will say that despite not always understanding her, I genuinely grew to like her.
I also loved watching her romance develop with Loki—it was in its own strange way quite sweet and touching, and such a delight to watch Loki slowly reveal more of himself. There’s a lot of sex in this book, which didn’t always work for me, but I really loved the mythology and seeing the romance develop.
I recommend this for anyone who enjoys Norse mythology or paranormal romance. If you’re not a fan of Norse mythology, if you’re bothered by explicit sex, or if you don’t like books that include cheating or love triangles, you might not enjoy this.
