The book was interesting from the point of view of prejudice in the old West and stories of the women who ended up in brothels. It seemed to drag a little with the spoiled oldest daughter and then ended too quickly.
An easy read for pleasure. Hard to put down.
Treasures are very special as you will discover when you read this heart warming story!
The ending was rushed.
It was OK. I thought the idea of saving the Chinese girls was unique and was the only twist to the book. The author took a major portion of the story for background story and spent the las third to quarter of the book to tell the short story. Not one I’d pick up again. For all the honor the two main characters were supposed to have, they sure caved quick to their carnal desires. Made me feel like their moral fiber was all in their heads.
Loved it
Wonderful read, enjoyed it immensely
This is a fascinating and complex story. James and Elizabeth meet under unusual circumstances in the the middle of the night, and then she is gone. James spends much time and resources to not only find her, but then he must convince her to come and be a governess to his children. After losing his own child because of deeply ingrained prejudice and cultural differences, our Hero has rescued four abandoned baby girls and is raising them as his own. He is fiercely protective of them and Elizabeth is shocked to find they are not what she expected. James and Elizabeth nearly give up on their arrangement. They must work their way past misunderstandings and misconceptions, their own and those of the children. I like that the children play a large part in the emotions of the story, and in its resolution. This story is romantic and also paints a vivid portrait of a time and place in history. It has strong main characters and a compelling, intriguing plot. I highly recommend it.
This is a must read!!!
James responses to a woman’s weeping in the next room of the hotel, only to find himself locked out of his room and barefoot.
It’s a good story that will keep you entertained and inform you of another part of history and culture.
I was appalled at how bad this book was. The premise was promising and the information on Chinese in San Francisco was interesting, but the plot was simplistic and predictable. Not only was there an idiotic amount of sex for people who supposedly were devoted to three small children, but their rationale for getting involved sexually was ridiculous. Ever the optimist, I finished it, skipping over the repetitive sex scenes, in the hope of locating some redeeming quality. I failed. I could under no circumstances recommend this to anyone.
Enjoyed!
It was a quick read and I enjoyed it. Great for a boring weekend.
This was a wonderful read. It was a page-turner and the characters had souls and human emotions so real. I truly enjoyed reading this book.
Good, clean story, with interesting characters.
this was great, would recommend.
DUMB
I loved this book and the Treasurers were awesome!
Easy read nice
I would rated the book higher except for the sex. I like to know if a book has sex scenes or bad language before I get it.
