Oh dear.
Yet another book where a supposedly intelligent MC is actually a selfish, willful bi — idiot. She stays in a brothel, trashes a drug den, then acts all contemptuous (and ungrateful) when a man has to step in and protect her — at huge expense and personal risk. Right ….
This same man who, by the way, she locked into her room after he’d comforted her. She doesn’t just hide the key. No, She ensures he is thoroughly embarrassed and grossly inconvenienced by taking not only his room key, but also the hotel’s spare key. And all because she wanted to be sure he didn’t follow her? Jeez. All she needed to do was hide his key in the chair and walk away. Totally ridiculous, selfish, and agressively-aggressive.
Despite this, he tracks her down as she’s the only possible person to educate his daughters? What an idiot he is, too.
James Craig, a wealthy guest in a San Francisco hotel in 1873, was awakened by the pitiful cries of Elizabeth, a nearly destitute woman who had traveled thousands of miles only to discover her brother had died. She is determined to cause havoc to the opium den where her brother died. James, a single father, is determined to secure her as a governess for his four very young daughters.
Each of our characters must face his/her own failures and unforgiveness in order to be able to move into a future that can be filled with love, joy and peace.
This is a fantastic novel portraying the peace that only comes through forgiveness and surrender to God’s love.
