Every now and then, I like to read a crime thriller. I ran across The Traveling Man (The Traveler’s, #1) by Michael P. King and put it on the TBR list. Here is my review!
Synopsis (from the author):
In a life-and-death contest among criminals, even the most cunning may not survive…
The Traveling Man and his wife have built a life for themselves conning criminals and getting away scot-free. But when their latest scheme to sell contaminated land goes south, they find themselves in a cat-and-mouse game with the crime boss who’s turned the tables on them and the partners who’ve betrayed them.

What I liked:
The Traveling Man was a fun read! Lots of action, plot twists, great cons, and betrayals kept me guessing what was coming next. Add to the mix the innocents caught up in the game, the oddly ethical bent of the Traveling Man, and it’s a winning combination.
What I didn’t like:
Despite the good parts mentioned above, the book did bog down a few times as The Traveling Man and his plans fell apart. I had issues with some of the dialogue as well.
Overall impression:
The Traveling Man (The Traveler’s, #1) was an enjoyable read. The cons were flawed enough to be believable, the characters’ amoral enough to pull off their scams, yet Rob (The Traveling Man) had an ethical side. If you’re a fan of crime novels, read this one. Please note there is sex, violence, and strong language.
My rating:
4 Stars
Always rooting for my anti heroes…love it
Duplicity and double crosses! Good story line.
This book is about a married pair of scam artists who target a dishonest banker.
The hero reminds me of Jack Reacher, I would read more.
Enjoyed the book
I enjoyed the book, it was light easy reading
Interesting read which keeps your involved to the end.
I was interested in the twists and turns of the story and how they played out. Although I really felt that the characters should have been more developed. Such as how a couple of 20 years could know each other so little.
Grifters everywhere and no one to be trusted!
A really good read. I suggest you join N0velStar’s writing competition this April.
Met Traveling Man and his very young new partner in Michael P. King’s ‘The Double Cross’ (5 star reading for me) and now he picks up the story years later, married with aliases and cheap motels behind them. They have new identities, location, and a con that becomes twisted and deadly with double crosses by perfectly created sketchy, greedy added characters. The Traveling Man’s trusting partnership that has endured all those years reaches a shocking end. This is definitely page turning reading with true characters coming out. They are still grifters, con artists or just plain crooks, but Mr. Kings’s ending adds an emotional twist that makes The Traveling Man a, still intriguing, but extremely likable character. Book 2 is a definite read for me.
The author, who has now written six books featuring The Traveling Man, has an amazing sense of pace and character. if you like stories of con men, with revenge, I cannot recommend these stories highly enough.
Was interesting enough. Glad I got it for free.
Unusual angle by author. Protagonist is conman and his wife but other characters are far worse. Interesting series.
Great read
Some unexpected twists but portions were predictable. Would read a sequel–not very ‘brain’ taxing.
Pretty good psychology.
This book is more of a novella, with a couple of individual “cons” contained in the book. The stories are entertaining.
I read for enjoyment and this story was too violent and extreme sex.
