I was ordinary. Nice.
He was extraordinary. And he wasn’t always nice.
Moody and difficult, brilliant and beautiful, Kes scared me and he protected me. He could be incredibly hurtful and incredibly thoughtful. He wasn’t perfect, but he was perfect for me. He challenged me, he took me out of my safe little box and showed me the world could be magnificent. He was everything I wasn’t.”
… wasn’t.”

“How different her books always are. Every. Time. They’re never your generic tale of boy meets girl. She has the most entertaining stories and with her writing, the characters and their lives truly come to life. The Traveling Man was no exception. This ride is unlike anything else I’ve read, and that made me enjoy it even more.”

No BS Book Reviews
“This book was simply perfection in my eyes. There is such a magical quality about the story with the whole carnival aspect, but also with the writing. It’s beautifully pieced together, well researched and I highlighted like a madwoman. When I read I look for something that’s going to make me emotional, whether that’s happy, angry, devastated, terrified, you name it, I want to feel it. And I did here. My emotions were all over the place and I loved every heart wrenching moment of it.”

“The is the first book of Jane Berrick-Harvey I have read and certainly look forward to reading her other word. This book had such an emotional not so perfect love story between Kestrel (Kes) the “Carnie” and Annie – your everyday Suburban girl from a small town.

This is, by far, the best book that I’ve read in the last year. A host of great characters (Looking at you, Mr. Albert!) and a well-plotted, emotional rollercoaster of a storyline kept me hooked. I’m not ashamed to say that I stayed up reading (past four a.m.) until I couldn’t keep my eyes open. When the book was over, I was beyond delighted to begin the second half in book #2. I did not want the story to end
Couldn’t put it down!
Oh my, what a fantastic love story! One can tell that author Jane Harvey-Berrick did a very thorough research about the carnival life. I am in awe of Kes and Aimee’s connection since day 1. The author has peppered this book with very interesting characters, some are flawed and some are just perfect like Kes. The first time I read a book about “carnies” and I can’t get enough of this I am off to read book 2, The Travelling Woman. Highly recommended! Hats off to this author.
A beautiful read full of nostalgia with a bit of an edge. This epic tale of friendship, love and life follows Kes and Aimee”s relationship from their first meeting at the age of 10 through adulthood. It’s emotional, impactful and a must read. My heart broke for this couple. It just seemed as though the fates were against them. Jane’s words never fail to sweep me away and leave me begging for more!
Wow. That was the first thing I thought of as I finished reading this book. The words flowed so fast on the page that I could not put it down. Eloquently written story of Aimee and Kes who find each other on a hot July day at the carnival that Kes was a part of. This book actually captured me at the prologue. The words hit me hard and I was hooked. This whole book had the magic feel, the emotional draw, absolutely everything.
I loved how you get to watch Aimee and Kes grow during the years and how much they meant to each other even though they only got two weeks a year together. You could tell right away that they were meant to be together and that they were both lost souls that found one another. Then when 16 they made their plans but to be foiled by not only her parents but by Sorcha . Then they find each other again and my heart did a cartwheel for them!!! Then…. at the end… left me begging for more! When is The Traveling Woman coming out????
I am not one to give any spoilers etc but I can tell you this one is a MUST read! I laughed. I cried. I yelled. This one really hit me good and that is why I fully recommend this book to anyone!! The descriptive writing, the flow of the story, everything. My heart now belongs to Kes…. yup hes my new Book Boyfriend…. the whole time I was cheering for him!!! I was an emotional mess at the end and my hubby thought I was crazy…. and I don’t care. Guys…. just get this book… NOW!!! So looking forward to the second part of this story!!! By far 5 stars!! My top read of 2015 so far!!!
I adored the first half of this book. I really loved the friendship between Aimee and Kes- how important they were to each other, and how that friendship blossomed into young love. You could feel their emotions. Eagerly awaiting those 2 weeks each summer was the sweetest torture.
The second part had some really great moments, but it kind of broke my heart. [I hate when a couple is torn apart because of outside influences! I hate that they missed out on so much with each other!]
Kes has some deep-seated issues and at times I hated him. And then my heart would hurt for him.
But I’m glad Aimee took a stand.
This book had me all over the place and I was so glad I had book 2 waiting on me!
I just fell in love with this story and this couple. I really liked the fact that the writer started this story from their childhood and that she didn’t used past and present time into it. I loved the way that their friendship slowly changed into something more. First love can be very intense and when you have Kess, that is especially true. One of the things that I enjoyed very much was the honesty between Kess and Aimee. Their friendship and relationship is something special.
The story held me in a trance for the whole time I was reading it. I must tell you that this story ends with a cliffhanger but that didn’t bother me, because I really wanted more of this couple and I got more in the second book.
GREAT read. Loved the originality of the story. Getting inside the life of the people who live in a carnival was fascinating. Cliff hanger of an ending.
