In this #1 Wall Street Journal bestseller, Tracy Crosswhite must first identify the victim to catch the killer. When a woman’s body is discovered submerged in a crab pot in the chilly waters of Puget Sound, Detective Tracy Crosswhite finds herself with a tough case to untangle. Before they can identify the killer, Tracy and her colleagues on the Seattle PD’s Violent Crimes Section must figure out … Section must figure out who the victim is. Her autopsy, however, reveals she may have gone to great lengths to conceal her identity. So who was she running from?

A young man poaching finds a woman’s body in a crab pot in the chilly waters of Puget Sound and Detective Tracy Crosswhite is asked to investigate the case. They cannot identify the woman and as they follow the leads it appears it may be a woman that faked her own death to escape an unhappy marriage. This death brings up Tracy’s own sister’s death. Now there have been contradictory clues as to who this woman may really be. Great read. I would like to thank the Publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this ARC.
I hadn’t heard anything about Robert Dugoni when I snagged The Trapped Girl from Kindle Unlimited, but I can say with confidence that I plan to read more of his work. Turns out The Trapped Girl is the 4th in Dugoni’s Tracy Crosswhite series about a Seattle PD homicide detective, so I have three earlier books to read and a 5th to look forward to come September. In The Trapped Girl, Tracy is a likeable, competent heroine working on a truly riveting case — a Jane Doe is found submerged inside a local crab pot. The case gets tough when Tracy and the gang realize the Jane Doe has had extensive plastic surgery to modify her appearance. In order to catch a killer, they must first identify the victim! With loads of great twists and turns and a stellar ending, I think I’ve found another reliable suspense author to curl up with on my weekend afternoons!
Mr. Dugoni weaves a great mystery and intriguing story in this episode of Tracy Crosswhite’s detective life. From the first chapter of the body being found in the trap to the ending when all is explained, it was an enjoyable time spent. I have read all of these up to this point and have #5 waiting….. Thanks again for great reads.
Twists and turns and BAM you had be going in a different direction. I thought I had this one figured out and then you turned on me and had me going around in circles! Love that in a mystery/thriller! A young boy is out crabbing in the early morning while pulling up pots he finds a hand. Scared out of his witts, first he is not supposed to be there but there is a boy in the crab pot. That starts out this story. Who is the woman? At the autopsy it is discovered she has had reconstructive surgery to change her appearance and when they start to put together the pieces the mistakenly identify her. This leads them to a missing person who was presumed dead on Mt Rainier and then her husband (the sleazebag). We get the backstory of her all through this and then suddenly Tracy and her team discover she is not the woman in the crab pot after all (after they had the case pulled from them). Now they have the case back and can really start working it again. So many twists and turns and let me tell you, hang on to your seat all the way to the end! This one has been my favorite so far.
I just started reading Robert Dugoni’s series of 6 detective Tracy Crosswhite books. They are all great including The Trapped Girl. I’ve been reading them from book 1 and just started book 6. They keep me reading later than I should be every night. All have interesting surprise endings.
I enjoy Tracy’s and Dan’s characters grow and expand while following this twisted complex storyline across jurisdictions with a motley crew of nice and not so nice players! The ending turned out very different from what I expected, and I liked it very much!
Totally original story with many surprises!
I’m a huge fan of this series and the author and wasn’t disappointed. From the beginning, the reader second-guesses the motives of the victim(s) and the “bad guys” and I thought that I had everything figured out. WRONG! The final twist I never predicted, and that led to a satisfying twisty finish. Tracy Crosswhite, a victim herself, identifies with the Jane Doe when the victim’s body is found in the crab trap (ew! what a vision!). Meanwhile, insight from the victim herself offers insight and background on what led to her disappearance and (supposed) murder. No spoilers here, but prepare to be intrigued. You’ll keep the light on into the wee hours to finish this one. Highly recommended! (and…with a sweet happy ending for Tracy, too!).
Wow Did Not See That Coming!
Though it’s great when you figure things out before the main characters, it is great to get that, “Whoa, wait a minute, what?” feeling.
Two things got under my skin:
1- in a few places the phrase “each another” was used rather than “each other”.
2- Terminology: the term “manic-depressive” is out of date, the proper word is “bipolar”.
That said I was blown away yet again. I can’t believe how I’ve come to care about these characters. Heads up, you want to have tissues nearby.
I could kind of understand where Andrea was coming from, though in different ways I’ve also had life beat me down, much more than one person should. It’s nice to be able to identify with a character sometimes. I too love books, I know what wonderful worlds can be found within the pages
I really enjoy his writing
Robert Dugoni gives Tracy Crosswhite two extremely annoying roadblocks in the path to the murderer’s identity. One is her old nemesis , Johnny Nolasco, her boss. And the other is Deputy Stan Fields who, apparently, half-heartedly investigated a missing person case.
The plot revolves around the discovery of a body in an unusual place. It switches from the present to flashbacks and back, which add interest.
As always Mr. Dugoni is mindful of feminist thought!
Dugoni brings readers a fantastic suspense novel in The Trapped Girl.
Detective Crosswhite and her A team colleagues always do what it takes to close the case. This one will give them a run for their money. You will think you have it all figured out, but keep on reading. Well done, Mr. Dugoni, well done.
I highly recommend this police procedural to fans of the genre.
His books just keep getting better and better. When I grow up I want to be like Tracy Crosswhite!! The writing is superb, and I feel like I have known the characters for years. The location descriptions are so spot on it feels like you really are in the hills and mountains. Every time I had this book figured out, Robert showed me just how wrong I was, he had me guessing til the very end. I kept a love hate relationship going with all the suspects in this book, they were complex, corrupt, and just trying to stay alive. AND, there was a fairy-tale wedding to top it off.
The Trapped Girl (Tracy Crosswhite, #4), my sixth read from author Robert Dugoni. Outstanding police fiction. 11-hours 27-minute/378-pages. I’m voluntarily reading & reviewing it because every book needs reviews. Narrator Emily Sutton-Smith’s outstanding narration adds to the book’s enjoyment. I look forward to reading more from this author. Now I’m going out and read In Close to Home: Tracy Crosswhite, Book 5. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
THIS REVIEW IS FOR BOTH THE AUDIOBOOK AND EBOOK VERSIONS
