When FBI agent Jack Shannon arrives in Corpus Christi, Texas, he is focused on one thing: find the man who has been selling encrypted government secrets to the Chinese through online birding chat rooms. But when a senator is shot during a hunting trip and the woman he was with is abducted, Jack agrees to join the search–especially when he discovers that the kidnapping victim is Aubrey Grayson, a … Grayson, a woman he was once in love with.
As the search continues, it becomes clear the senator may not have been the intended victim–and Aubrey may be connected to the other case Jack is supposed to be working on. Can Jack untangle the knots before it’s too late? And when he learns the truth, will it be too painful to get past?
Join the hunt for the truth–and a traitor–in this tension-laden story of secrets, betrayal, and second chances.

This has been one of my favorite romantic suspense books from this year so far. I also think this is my favorite book by Lisa Harris. This has so many twists and turns. I love the romance but the suspense is wonderful. I don’t know how the characters made it through some of the parts of this story. How do you live with finding out something awful about a close friend or family member. I could not put this book down. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell at Baker Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts below are my own.
This spring, I highly recommend you add The Traitor’s Pawn to your “to be read” pile. This excellent new story comes from romantic suspense author, Lisa Harris, and offers not only a thrilling plot but a profound message of offering forgiveness for a lifetime of hurts.
When Detective Aubrey Grayson is suddenly abducted from her quiet morning of duck hunting with her beloved father-figure, former Senator Grant McKenna, she suddenly finds life throwing her many unexpected twists and turns, including murder, betrayal and a head-on collision with her former best friend from high school, FBI Agent Jack Shannon.
Pros: The stunning book cover is gorgeous and alluring. I absolutely loved the unfolding of events Harris outlined and thick plot. The Traitor’s Pawn begins with heart-pounding suspense that continues throughout the book. Harris skillfully created a story that was entertaining, riveting and unique. I connected right away with both Aubrey and Jack and enjoyed learning about their past, the regrets they shared and the bond they had. The fast-paced storyline kept me interested and turning the pages quickly. I enjoyed her knowledge of Corpus Christi, TX and the description of the area/beaches. The faith-based elements did not overpower the story, but rather supported it in a beautiful and profound way. I believe the message of overcoming a past of hurt, abandonment and betrayal was accurately portrayed and finding freedom in forgiveness is life-giving to readers hearts and minds. Props to Harris for a “clean” read. Please note, due to the nature of this novel, there are some graphic scenes and the use of guns/shooting/attempted murder.
Cons: Personal Preference Alert: The romance portion of the story was too slow for me! I REALLY wanted Aubrey and Jack to connect mid story and begin to build a relationship. I would have loved if if their story unfolded quicker, was more steamy and if there was less lamenting over the past (too repetitive at times, causing me to skim read). Also, for me, there was a tiny believability factor I struggled with in a couple of portions of the story – namely, the second time Cheng foils the FBI’s plans and the fact that the Chinese and Russians are involved plus agree to meet Charles Ramsey in the same place and time. Perhaps just one villainous group would have sufficed.
Overall, The Traitor’s Pawn is a great read and one that I will recommend to other Christian fiction/romantic suspense readers! It is a clean book and appropriate for mature teens 15+.
I confess I am one of those readers that wants (needs) to be hooked with the first sentence of a book. When I read the first sentence of Lisa Harris’ THE TRAITOR’S PAWN, I knew I was in for a treat! “Watch your back . . . this isn’t over.” Her opening sentence segues into a first Chapter that prepares readers for a plot full of edge of your seat intrigue! FBI Agent Jack Shannon is solely focused on finding the man who has been selling encrypted government secrets to the Chinese through online birding chat rooms. However, when he learns a former Senator has been shot and the woman with him has been kidnapped, he feels compelled to join in the investigation. Especially when he discovered the missing woman was someone he was once in love with, newly promoted Detective Aubrey Grayson. Harris’ characters are genuine and relatable. You find yourself drawn to them and wanting to know more about them, their pasts and where their futures may lead. Her setting is the marshes of Texas and she describes them beautifully. The plot is intriguing and will keep you reading this book from start to finish in one sitting! Overall an excellent Romantic Suspense book! I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Revell and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
This is a fantastic new release the readers must read! After reading Lisa Harris’s last new release, I was intrigued and excited for this release. With each book release, Ms. Harris has written more superbly! I love her romantic suspense books and this one will not disappoint! Readers will be wanting to read all night to finish this one. This book focuses on Aubrey who is kidnapped at the beginning of the book and a senator (a father figure to her) is shot. When FBI agent, Jack arrives on the scene and discovers who is missing he instantly wants to help find her. Even though he is on another case, he is drawn into what is occurring with Aubrey. As the book continues, the cases seem intertwined. If you love suspense, you will love Ms. Harris’s books. I highly recommend this book and believe that you will not be disappointed!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.
I would describe this latest book by Lisa Harris as more action rather than romantic suspense. Yes, there is an element of suspense and a little romance, but mostly it’s action driven. The characters, Jack Shannon and Aubrey Grayson, are likeable and well developed. Jack is an FBI agent and Aubrey a detective with Houston PD, so both characters are trying to solve the crime/mystery using crime investigation methods. I’d say for me, this book’s suspense factor was lower than previous books I’ve read by Harris. There is lots of action, but I never really felt the main characters were in grave danger. You’ll understand this when you finish the book. And, I would have enjoyed a bit more romance. Nevertheless, there were moments of tension, and you don’t really know what is happening until the end of the book, which is good. There is a definite Christian element running through the book, but it’s not preachy. It’s a clean, faith-based book.
Lisa Harris never fails to bring an action-packed, adrenaline-filled romantic suspense to her readers. The Traitor’s Pawn takes two estranged childhood best friends Jack and Aubrey and puts them smack in the middle of treason, espionage, and betrayal. Jack is the fierce protector of FBI agent and Aubrey is a police detective and they join forces to untangle a web of threats, murders, and stolen secrets. The plot moves at a brisk pace and it has plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing at the identity of the real villain.
If you enjoy romantic suspense, you will enjoy this book and the author’s writing style. I received a copy of the book from Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
After reading the newest book by Lisa Harris, I can honestly say that she gets better with every book she writes. This book grabs your attention and doesn’t let go. It’s a story about betrayal, family dysfunction, and a woman trying her best to do her job and live her life. Aubrey and Jack are the main characters with a past history. They get thrown together when Aubrey is kidnapped, and her case intersects with the case FBI agent Jack is working on. There is a lot of action, and suspense of course. You find yourself turning the pages trying to see what happens next. It opens with a shooting and a kidnapping, and closes with a bang! It’s amazing to me the depth of character development that Ms. Harris portrays in this book. You find yourself pulling for Aubrey and Jack, and hurting at the betrayal that Aubrey goes through at the hands of a person that is suppose to love and care for her. Great story line, beautifully written, and hard to forget after you finish the last page. Highly recommend.
The Traitor’s Pawn by Lisa Harris is a stand-alone suspense filled novel. FBI Agent Jack Shannon arrives in Corpus Christi, Texas to find a traitor. He joins the search for a missing detective, Aubrey Grayson, the woman he used to be in love with. This story starts out with an adrenaline pumping start and keeps it up all the way through. I loved the way that Aubrey was always in the thick of the action. She didn’t back down from danger. Past secrets have a way of coming to light, no matter how hard you try to keep them buried. Betrayal is finally met with forgiveness and a chance to start again. This story would make a great movie!
I received this book LibraryThing for my honest review.
What better way to amp up the suspense than to start out with a shooting and a kidnapping.
Lisa does it again with a story that twists and turns like a mountain road.
When FBI agent Jack Shannon returns home while working on a case he suddenly finds it entwined with the kidnapping of his high school best friend—the girl who got away.
After she’s rescued he finds it hard to keep things in the friend zone, but as things are heating up he better keep his head in the game. Her life could depend on it.
Full of relatable characters and multiple suspects that kept me guessing this book is another winner. I recommend it.
I was given a copy of this book courtesy of Baker Publishing Group and this is my honest review.
This was another action packed romantic suspense novel from Lisa Harris. This one hits the ground running as Aubrey Grayson is taking some much needed time off on a hunting trip with the family that has taken her under their wing when she’s shot at and kidnapped. Among those sent to find her is her childhood best friend, Jack Shannon, who has secretly loved her for forever. When it appears that the case that he’s in town on with the FBI is somehow related to what’s going on with Aubrey, they team up to find out what’s going on. The web of secrets goes back a long way, though, and every time they uncover something new, there’s a new mystery thrown in the mix!
This book had a lot of twists and turns and I had no idea how things were going to turn out until they did. Kidnappings and murders and selling of government secrets – this book had it all! There was a good message of forgiveness and letting go of past hurts and a solid faith thread as the characters sought God’s help and mercy as they went along. The romance was sweet as they’d known each other for a long time and I enjoy the “friends to more” trope. This was one that I really enjoyed and would highly recommend to fans of romantic suspense.
Special thanks to Ms. Harris and Baker Publishing for an advanced copy of this book. I was under no obligation to write a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
FBI agent Jack Shannon is reunited with his childhood friend Aubrey Grayson in this thrilling suspense novel about spies, selling secrets and betrayal. Jack is supposed to be in Corpus Cristi investigating a spy ring that is passing secrets to both Russia and China. When Aubrey’s life is endangered, Jack jumps into action. I loved how their former friendship was revealed and how their current interaction is like prickly porcupines at first. I also enjoyed the storyline that is as relevant as possible in today’s world. I was totally enthralled with the family dynamics, too, especially the broken relationship between Aubrey and her father Charles. I liked how the author protected all of the innocents who were caught in the crossfires of the investigation and how she tied up all the loose ends in a believable and satisfying way at the end. This is a completely clean read, I’m happy to say, so that I can recommend it without reservation to all of my friends and, most importantly, to my teenaged granddaughters. Thanks to the author for a book worth reading that was clean! Fans of Christian romantic suspense will not want to miss this spy thriller that is spine-tingling, edge-of-your-seat reading!

Another amazing book by Lisa Harris! It hooks you in from the start and keeps you guessing all the way through. There are surprises I wasn’t expecting, that kept me on the edge of my seat. Make sure that you have enough time to read this because once you start, you won’t want to stop. I read into the wee hours of the morning. Aubrey and Jack, the main characters felt like real people, like friends. The mystery was complex and as I weaved through the story, it felt like I was watching it happen, not like I was reading a story. There is subtle romance and honest grappling with forgiveness. Their growth from beginning to end felt real, not contrived. I was sad to end the book, I wanted to continue in their lives. All in all, a fantastic book!
I was provided a copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions in this review are my own.
If you enjoy a book with a lot of action, this is the one, in fact I had the feeling I was watching the evening news.
While a read of fiction, this one sure could be true, and that in its self is very scary, but the author quickly had me page turning, I needed answers, and my guesses to what was going on kept changing.
The book starts out with an innocent duck hunt, and ends with a bomb, literally, and much more in between. We are also given a bit of sweet romance, a longing to have what it not to be, or is it?
The dynamics of family relationships, and the heartache that it can bring, along with those who were there for those who were in need.
You don’t want to miss this one, it will keep you on the edge of your seat, and page-turning for answers!
I received this book through the LibraryThing, and was not required to give a positive review.
Thrilling suspense from beginning to end. Detective Aubrey Grayson is visiting former Senator Grant McKenna when shots are fired. He is injured and she is abducted. Able to get away, she isn’t sure who was the target and why. Her friend from childhood, FBI Agent Jack Shannon, is also visiting while working a case. When information from her abduction becomes relevant to his investigation, they team up to find out who is selling classified intel to the Chinese. Jack had been attracted to Aubrey years ago and now with their time spent together he knows the attraction is still there. If they survive, is there a chance for them? A very intricate mystery as new clues lead them to someone from Aubrey’s past that may have been involved all along. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Aubrey Grayson is a good cop. She is shocked to find evidence that her estranged father could be a traitor and she is unwittingly involved. While duck hunting with former Senator, Grant McKenna, they come under fire. He is shot and she is kidnapped. Lots of intrigue as FBI agent and long time best friend of Aubrey, Jack Shannon, tries to put the pieces together. The action rarely lets up.
Bree and Jack share a solid faith. Even though they have questions about how things are playing out with her father, they know God is in charge.
Bree: “I cannot put my ultimate hope in people or circumstances. I can only put it in God, because he is always faithful.”
Jack: “My father always told me that God is about the long game. That he is more interested in who you become, even if the actual process is difficult. I am not saying God doesn’t care about the little things, but he’s more interested in my reaching the finish line.”
Not only do Bree and Jack share faith, they have a long friendship behind them. And even though it has been interrupted for a while, they might take it to another level.
Come along for a unique story of suspense, faith and some self-searching.

Lisa Harris weaves a tail that pulls the reader in and has you experience every heart pounding moment along with the characters. Spies are passing on top secret government information and the FBI is hot on the trail. But code names and disappearing data are making the trail run cold. How do you break a spy ring with no pictures or names to work with?
Jack has been working this case for months and a lead brings him home, hoping to grab a quick cup of coffee and chat with his brother. He left years ago to chase the dream of sacrifice and law enforcement with the FBI, but there has always been another reason shadowing the background that he never told anyone. His childhood best friend Aubrey loves to return home for the hunting and adopted family. She also has pursued a dream of defending victims and law, becoming a detective. But she has reached her end point, needing a break to clear her head and re-center her life. One the first day of her vacation, everything falls apart. A shooting, kidnapping, spies, car chases, and safe houses gets Bree stuck back right in the middle of everything. A place Jack wants to avoid having her, even if her father is looking like the middle of this storm.
Lisa Harris brings her characters to life, with human weakness and doubts making them relatable and real. I wanted to give them advice and help find the bad guy before anything else went wrong. They drew me even deeper into the story, going over the clues to find the truth. The riveting suspense kept me up late and guessing until the end. I can’t wait for the next book by Lisa Harris, it is already on my want list! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I enjoyed this sort of romantic suspense. There is almost continuous flowing action and a hard to guess whats going on at the first of this tense story involving two best friends from long ago. It was hard to put down, but had to get some sleep. There were lots of people to point fingers at since there were more than one bad guy. I gave this a 5* rating. There was a bit of violence in this. I’ll be reading more of this author.
Danger and fast-paced action! Lisa Harris always keeps your attention from beginning to end! Detective Bree Grayson and her old best friend, FBI Special Agent Jack Shannon, are searching for the person who shot her father figure senator. You will keep wondering if Bree’s father is the shooter and what part he plays in these crimes of selling government secrets to China and Russia. Would he actually put his daughter in danger? I recommend The Traitor’s Pawn to anyone who enjoys suspense! I received a complimentary advance copy of The Traitor’s Pawn from the author and Revell Publishing. This is my honest opinion.
Lisa Harris hits it out of the ballpark again!! I really enjoy her books and The Traitor’s Pawn didn’t disappoint me! It starts out full-steam-ahead from page one and doesn’t slow down. This is a well-paced suspense thriller with plenty of action…a real page-turner!
Lisa’s novels may be listed as “romantic suspense,” but they are not mushy and the relationships are well-woven into the plot, just like real-life. The discussions and introspective thoughts of the characters regarding both the case and their personal lives are realistic. Lisa gives us an exciting, action-filled mystery with surprising twists and turns that includes some good food-for-thought that reveals the true source of our strength and guidance in all situations. I highly recommend that you purchase this latest suspense novel from Lisa Harris. In fact, purchase one for a friend as well. I presume that in so doing, you are also supporting her and her husband’s ministry in Africa.
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher, but that has not influenced my opinions in this review.

“Seeing him again reminded her of the things she missed about him.”
Being abducted wasn’t exactly what Aubrey Grayson had in mind on that beautiful predawn morning, neither was watching the man she considered her surrogate father get shot . . . but both happened so quickly. In the blink of an eye, her life hung in the balance before her law enforcement training had time to kick in. Equally impossible to believe, was that when she did manage to gain an upper hand, that it was F. B. I. Agent Jack Shannon who came to her rescue. Jack . . .just the sound of his name brought back a multitude of wonderful childhood memories; so, what in the world had happened to “them”?
Agent Jack Shannon is stunned to come face to face with Bree Grayson again. Not only is she as beautiful, or even more beautiful than he remembered, she has become caught in the middle of a dangerous situation; and until he can unravel the details, his protective instincts kick into high gear. As the situation begins to play itself out, a name rises to the surface, one that neither of them ever expected to be relevant to the case; it’s none other than Charles Ramsey.
As Bree fights the demons of her past and Jack struggles with similar regrets, they have an international spy ring to shut down; but unfortunately for both of them, it’s Bree who becomes “the traitor’s pawn”.
This book is such a nice blend of character and story; two childhood friends whose love for each other became misunderstood and then neglected among the challenges of adulthood; only to be given a second chance. Sometimes forgiveness is the key, the only key, needed to unlock the future. Is it easy? Absolutely not.
I received a copy of this book from Baker Publishing through Interviews and Reviews. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.
