Once again, Lisa Harris has given us a story that won’t let go of us until the very end. I love her suspense novels. Set in south Texas, the heroine is a Houston Police detective, and the hero is in the FBI. And one of them has a strong connection to the villain. She kept me guessing until almost the very last page.
Twists and turns that start on the very first page!
From page one, I was pulled into the action and suspense when Aubrey Grayson witnesses a close family friend shot right in front of her and then she’s kidnapped. As the plot unfolds, it becomes clear not everything is as it seems and I liked the way Ms. Harris kept increasing the stakes. The romantic tension between Aubrey and Jack continue to grow from an established friendship, which made it feel natural. A thrilling plot and developed characters will have romantic suspense fans enjoying every page of this story!

Wonderful Romantic Suspense book. I loved the main characters Jack and Aubrey (aka Bree) . There is lots of action and danger and a slowly building romance as well as a lesson in forgiveness. It also made me a little sad for Bree. Lisa Harris is a great author and her books are well written and well researched. I recommend this book to all suspense fans. I believe you will enjoy it as I did.
A real page-turner right from the start…
When you start a Lisa Harris novel you are really only guaranteed one thing, well maybe two… The first is that you are in for one wild romantic suspense ride, and, the other is that there will be so many twists and turns that you’ll second and maybe even third guess yourself. The Traitor’s Pawn was all that and a little bit more.
I enjoyed every bit of The Traitor’s Pawn and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Lisa Harris is a master at romantic suspense and immersing her readers so far into the story that they almost forget to breathe. I know I almost do…
In addition to riveting romantic suspense The Traitor’s Pawn deals with some tough stuff, not the least of which is forgiveness after betrayal. Lisa Harris sums it up pretty well in my favorite line from the book, “And what he did doesn’t change who I am. A child of the King.” When it comes down to it, I think that’s a truth we all must learn even when, like it is for the characters in the book, it’s a painful process.
Anyway, if you enjoy romantic suspense that could easily be ripped from today’s headlines you really should snag a copy of this book.

THE TRAITOR’S PAWN is a Christian romantic suspense by Lisa Harris. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and it was a fast-paced suspense with a friends-to-lovers romance.
Aubry (Bree) Grayson is a detective in Houston, Texas. She suddenly finds herself witness to the shooting of her longtime friend and the victim of a kidnapping. She manages to escape and meets up with her old childhood friend, FBI agent Jack Shannon. The two team up to stop an espionage ring that is after Bree to use as leverage against her estranged father, who has been selling secrets to China and Russia.
As they work to bring in her father and solve the case, they are drawn back together and discover they still have feelings for each other. This is a page-turner that will keep you up reading late at night wondering if they survive and if they find each other again! It has a satisfying happily-ever-after.
A very well written romantic suspense. A real page turner and edge of you seat plot. I highly recommend this book.
With nonstop action and exciting twists and turns, The Traitor’s Pawn pulled me in from the start and kept me turning pages. This book is well-written with colorful, realistic characters that come alive on the page. Jack Shannon is a wonderful hero—courageous, dedicated, and caring. The heroine, Aubrey Grayson is also vividly drawn, tenacious, and brave. It was enjoyable to see their relationship develop and grow, and the plot twists kept me guessing to the end. I always know I’ll get a riveting story when I pick up one of Lisa Harris’s books, and this one was no exception. I’m looking forward to more of her intriguing tales in the future.

The Traitor’s Pawn is Lisa Harris’s newest release from Revell. Harris has long ago established herself as one of my favorite suspense authors, so I was excited to get my hands on this one and dive deep!
The story starts out very action-packed and from there, you can’t put it down. Aubrey Grayson is a very compelling character and easy to relate to. Her motivation is clear and the reader can’t help but root for her. I enjoyed the romance between her and Jack, and appreciated that it took more of a backseat to the other events of the story. It made it so much more realistic. The ending wrapped up her character arc perfectly, but in a very authentic way. Speaking of Jack, I really liked his character as well, although I just wish there was . . . more of him. In most books like this one, the role of main character is equally shared between the male and female lead characters. However, Jack’s POV scenes were few and far between compared to Aubrey’s. And as much as I appreciated the message the author was trying to get across with Aubrey’s story, I would have loved to delve into Jack and his story more. As it was, he seemed more of a device to get Aubrey and the story where they needed to go. It left me wanting a sequel just to be able to learn more about Jack and get into his head more.
The story goes deep into the investigative side of things, which I enjoyed, although a little more action may have moved the story along faster. This was almost in the style of a Dee Henderson novel: heavy on the actual investigation and solving of the crime and light on the more action-packed scenes. I also appreciated the themes of forgiveness and redemption Harris included in the story; they were woven in very realistically.
All in all, I greatly enjoyed this release from Lisa Harris! If you are a fan of Dee Henderson and Lynette Eason, you’ll definitely want to check out The Traitor’s Pawn!
FTC Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for promotional purposes. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
It was pure exhilarating thrill from the beginning till the end. Captivating, intriguing, filled with suspense and mystery. You think you know what’s happening until a plot twist comes and it is suspense again. I really enjoyed reading this book.
My heart went out for Bree. What she went through was painful but I admired how she made a life for herself. Her faith was heartwarming. Even when it was family, I admired how she chose do do the right thing.
Lisa Harris is fast becoming one of my favorite suspense writer.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Have you ever sat down to read a book and the next thing you know hours have passed? Well, that happened to me as I read Lisa Harris’s newest suspense novel, The Traitor’s Pawn. I was engaged in the story from the first page all the way to the last! The female lead character is Aubrey Grayson who is a detective, sitting in a quiet place when a man who is like a father to her sits next to her. What happens next starts the ball rolling as the man is a senator. He gets shot, and Aubrey is kidnapped!
Lisa Harris does a magnificent job of drawing readers into the action that at times seems nonstop. Aubrey then gets reunited with two friends from her past when the two men are called in to help search for her, FBI Agent Jack Shannon and his brother Adam who also is in law enforcement. Throughout the book I was intrigued as the author slowly reveals each character’s past and how it may affect their ability to work a case.
The case gets even more involved when Aubrey’s father, whose been absent, is somehow involved deeply, bringing Aubrey at one point to a conflict within herself. Jack is protective, kind and wonders what the future may hold after the case with Aubrey is concluded. Adam and Jack have their brotherly past to deal with as well, but you’ll see for yourself when you read the tale.
I enjoyed the book as it was well balanced with suspense and romance. The Traitor’s Pawn is a stand-alone that will keep you turning pages and having fun while reading at the same time! I hope you grab this book and Lisa’s other adventures as they all are quite enjoyable to read.
Lisa Harris started her latest novel, The Traitor’s Pawn with her guns blazing. Right from the start, she jumps right in and starts the action. Just the way I like a romantic suspense to be. The two main characters have a love interest that they never mentioned to each other. They were best friends who wanted more, but never said anything. I totally understand that. But it bothered me that Harris allowed both of them to hide their feelings for the majority of the novel even though there were tons of underlying emotions. I felt like the hero, Jack should have said something sooner. Maybe just a little hint to make Aubrey scratch her head and wonder why she didn’t see it or why she didn’t admit to him or even herself. The ending is different. One I haven’t seen done at all in any novel, which I really liked, but it still felt like the easy way out. I wanted more. Overall, The Traitor’s Pawn wasn’t a bad novel. Definitely carried enough suspense and romance to satisfy any reader. Recommended for fans of DiAnn Mills and Colleen Coble.
I received a complimentary copy of The Traitor’s Pawn by Lisa Harris, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Aubrey Grayson’s peaceful sunrise chat with her Papps is shattered when he was shot, and it only goes downhill from there. As a detective, she is used to intense situations, but this one is different from any she has experienced before. Kidnapped while waiting for assistance and then rocked by an explosion, can it get any worse?
FBI agent Jack Shannon has followed the leads to Corpus Christi in the hunt for the man who is selling government secrets to foreign agents. He is surprised to find himself tangled in a mess that involves a senator and a police detective, especially when that detective is the woman Jack once loved.
The action keeps the pages turning in a fast paced novel that kept me guessing, even after the story ended. And the dynamic between Aubrey and Jack is a strong element that had me rooting for them, even when they didn’t seem to root for themselves. Lisa Harris presents a solid romantic suspense that will keep you guessing, and cheering, from beginning to end.
Thank you to the publisher for allowing me a copy to read and review. The opinions stated in this review are my own and are my completely honest assessment.
Traitor’s Pawn was action-packed from beginning to end. Lisa Harris is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors and I am never disappointed by her books. I was hooked on page one when someone shoots a close friend of Aubrey’s and kidnaps her. The story never slowed down from there. This was an exciting edge of your seat read that included espionage, kidnapping, wonderful characters, and the right amount of romance. As a reader, I continued to question who could be trusted and who was really behind all of this and how did they always seem a step ahead. Just when I thought I had it figured out, I was surprised again.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell on behalf of the author. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.
Lisa Harris never fails to write fast-paced suspense and mysteries full of intrigue! This book flowed quickly as I turned the pages to find out the villain of the story. I liked that the action held my attention. The romance in the story felt a little repetitive to me, but nonetheless, the characters are likable and relatable. I enjoyed reading about themes of forgiveness in the novel and liked how the spiritual concepts were incorporated subtly. I think certain aspects of the book stretched believability just a bit for me, but that did not detract from the overall story. I recommend this book to those who enjoy contemporary suspense!

Aubrey Grayson, detective from Houston, is spending some time duck hunting in Corpus Christi with her “unofficially” adoptive family, when former senator, Grant McKenna, Aubrey’s closest thing to a father after hers abandoned her while she was young, is shot, and Aubrey is later abducted by a chinese guy on a boat. This will spring a series of dangerous events in which Aubrey will always be involved as it seems it all could be related to her father who has been working in the goverment intelligence.
Jack Shannon, FBI agent, is investigating a Chinese spy ring and is sent to Corpus Christi, to find out if the main suspects are there and capture them. Shortly after arriving to Corpus Christi, he learns from his brother Adam that Aubrey -Bree for him- has been abducted after senator McKenna was shot. Bree was his best friend since childhood, until his feelings changed, but he was never able to act upon them because Bree became Adam’s girlfriend, and since he could bear to see them together, he up and left with the excuse of pursuing his career dream. But he has never forgetten Bree. And now, ten years later, his brother married to someone else, he wonders if this is his second chance at love with the only woman he has truly loved. But first, they have to uncover who is after Bree, and if they are trying to blackmail her father, who circumstances point that he may be selling goverment secrets to the Chinese and maybe another country.
This was a totally page turner book that kept me on the edge of my seat. It has action from page one, when the senator is shot and then Bree is abducted and there is non stop action after that. The story will keep you guessing who is behind this, what are they looking for, who are they blackmailing, and the hardest question of all: can her father be behind this, a traitor to his own Country?
The characters were very relatable and realistic. I truly admired both of them, but especially Bree. She wants to do what is right even if it affects her on a personal level. She’s a woman who has faced rejection and this is something that keeps her wondering if she’ll ever find someone who will stay for her. She misses Jack, and as they reconnect, she realizes she never knew why they became apart after being the best of friends. She feels so good and safe with him, but the adrenaline search and escape events, don’t leave much time for the what ifs. My heart ached for all she lost when she was young. But she’s a testimony of how God never left her and provided her with friends that became family to be there for her… Jack is waiting for a good moment to tell her the truth about why he left, but will the moment when they stop running ever come? And will he be able to protect Bree from the man who’s after her? You’ll have to read this in order to find out! An International Spy Mystery to be unraveled!
I’ll just say that you won’t be able to stop once you start. And that besides the action packed theme, there’s also a beautiful Christian message behind, about love, forgiveness, and redemption, that will leave you feeling inspired.
The romance is sweet, actually it’s very mild, as Jack gathers the strength to declare Bree his feelings. There’s much more action than romance. But I loved how Jack shows her how he feels through his protectiveness and his loyal support.
This is definitely a book I recommend! And this shelter in home time is the perfect one to read this book, because you won’t be able to put it down!
The Traitor’s Pawn grabbed my attention from the opening pages and held it throughout.
Former best friends Aubrey and Jack and brought back together in an investigation to find the person who is selling US government secrets. And the investigation is intense.
Lisa Harris delves into police procedure and the dangers surrounding Jack and Aubrey while giving readers a feel for the Corpus Christi, Texas, area. And, of course, there’s the history and unresolved questions between these two characters.
Aubrey’s character is well-developed with a great arc throughout the story. There are some extremely difficult choices she must make at times. And her ability to offer forgiveness despite her past hurts is admirable.
On the flip side, I would have liked to see a little more development of Jack. He’s there when it counts but we don’t get the insight into him and his life that we do Aubrey’s. That said, I was cheering for him to get the girl by the end of the book.
If you enjoy romantic suspense that leans toward the procedures and processes of investigation and where the romance takes a backseat to the suspense, add The Traitor’s Pawn to your list of books to read.

This story started right off with a shooting and a kidnapping. What a way to grab my attention. Ashley decides to take a vacation and visit her home town but she will get no rest because trouble has followed her. Best friend from years ago, Jack, is back in town too, but not for vacation. He is there in his official capacity as an FBI agent. They begin to work together along with local and federal authorities to try and bring down a multi country spy ring. National classified secrets are being sold to enemy countries for profit. Nothing speaks louder than money. How many kidnappings, hostage situations, even murder has to happen before they are stopped?
I have read several of Lisa Harris’ novels and this was right up there with her high standards of the written word. Grab a copy, find a comfy chair and be taken away into the intrigue and mystery of the International spy.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel but was not required to write a review.
Aubrey Grayson is on a mini vacation with Senator McKenna and his sons, whom are like family to her when he’s shot and she’s abducted. Adam is called in to help and he asks his brother, Jack, to help in finding Aubrey. Putting aside his current case with the FBI is something he vows to do so he can focus on finding Aubrey. From the start, we are trying to figure out who the intended target really was, and why, as well as the players and who’s telling the truth. Page turning story, set in Texas, that doesn’t let up until the last page.

Let me start by saying I devoured this book! It starts off with a bang and the action is nonstop throughout the book. It read quickly and easily and kept me involved until the very end. With all the pieces it was so much fun trying to figure out how they fit and who were the bad guys. The ending was satisfying and I loved the characters. This was an awesome suspense read.
