Armed only with Salem’s “Smart-Enuff” phone and Viv’s racing model Cadillac (with aggressive acceleration!), these two amateur super-sleuths are set to catch the gang of armed robbers terrorizing G-Ma’s neighborhood… if for no other reason than to stop G-Ma’s panic-stricken calls to Salem every time a car drives by. The only problem: they have no leads, no clues, and they’ve accidentally gotten … accidentally gotten themselves arrested for “moral crimes.”
As Salem tackles another investigation, she’s also confronted with the nagging suspicion that she won’t be able to move forward in her relationship with husband Tony if she can’t face the Herculean task of forgiving her own mother – something she has little desire to do.
While she mentally recites the Bible verse “love never fails” a thousand times a day, Salem joins pal Viv in racing around the streets of Lubbock, searching for the High Point Bandits and trying not to get “caught in the crotchfire.”

I enjoyed this book. Although it is in the mystery genre I am not sure I would call it that. Don’t get me wrong there is a mystery but the home life drama is very much the focus of the story and what a story it is. I normally prefer stories that focus on the mystery and investigation side of things but Salem has dragged me into her life and I was hooked wanting to find out what was to become of her and her dysfunctional life. She certainly has her problems and will have everyone rooting for to get her happy ending, this is because it is well written and tugs at your heart strings. Despite all the drama and seriousness of the story it is still a humours adventure that will have you chuckling over the mishaps and antics of some of the great characters. The mystery surrounds the fact that somebody is stealing from all the business in town and unlike most cozy mysteries the main character is encouraged to investigate and help out the police, although I am not sure if I call it helping of causing more chaos. Good fun what ever you call it and I can’t wait for the next book.
A gang of armed robbers are terrorising the town and Salem’s G-Ma’s just knows her motel is going to be next. Armed with her phone and shotgun she is ready for them. Salem just hopes the police catch the culprits before G-Ma kills a paying guest. The police have no clues and so far nobody has got hurt but how long will that last? Salem has enough worries over another one of her mother’s weddings, car troubles, dog that doesn’t like to be left behind and a new smart phone that could just possibly smarter than her but Viv still manages to convince her they should be keeping the town safe and especially G-Ma by catching the thieves themselves.
Sandra Murphy is one of my favourite narrator’s and I am so glad she is narrating this series and another very great reason why you should give this book ago. She never puts in a bad performance.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Wonderful addition to this series. In this one we find out more about Salems various relationships. Her and Viv are at it once again and guaranteed to make you laugh. You definitely will need tissues.
The only downfall in all these books areall the typos…there’s more to editing than spellcheck.
Despite this annoyance, I look forward to seeing if Tony and Salem get back together. Also little Stumps cuteness.
I will admit that I chose this book simply because of its title, Big thumbs up on this one!
I really love this series! Salem is an unlikely heroine with faults and self doubts most of us can relate to and an ugly dog only a mother could love. Her friend and AA counselor is practically a saint. Viv, Salem’s rich old lady buddy from a retirement village, is a determined amateur detective with the fastest Cadillac in town and, of course, there are a couple of hot guys in the mix, too. Lots of laugh out loud humor.
Loved this series!!!
Not worth your time
My emotions while reading this book ranged from wanting to shake some sense into the main character to being shocked and heart broken for her.
Kim Hunt Harris has a great style, and I fell in love with her Trailer Park Princess series. We can all find bits and pieces of people we have known in her characters. She has the ability to make you empathize with everything her characters go through, Flaws and all, you’ll want to see each character return in a repeat performance–book after book! I recommend reading the entire series. It just keeps getting better!
This book is a “Hoot” and for those who follow Jana DeLeon. You’ll LOVE it
it was good but not what i enjoy reading . I read to be entertained and prefer not to read about heavy personal problems although I’m sure some people find it comforting and informative. Especially if it’s something that they have dealt with and there was a lot of humor to lighten those passages
Great character development. Light reading. It was fun to guess the guilty one.
