Audrey Niffenegger’s innovative debut, The Time Traveler’s Wife, is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, an adventuresome librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: … Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity in his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.
The Time Traveler’s Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare’s marriage and their passionate love for each other as the story unfolds from both points of view. Clare and Henry attempt to live normal lives, pursuing familiar goals–steady jobs, good friends, children of their own. All of this is threatened by something they can neither prevent nor control, making their story intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.

I often will go back and just re read sections that I remember I enjoyed. I would then get hooked and finish the book from that point. Henry and Clare are such lovable characters and in a most difficult situation. Yet they find away. It was awesome and after writing this I may just go open it again.
Unusual story with good characters. Keep me interested the entire book.
I absolutely loved this book!
Loved this book. Totally different and unique perspective on time travel, more realistic too.
An unusual story beautifully told. I was hooked from the beginning and remained engrossed throughout.
This, I found, to be quite a different story than I first thought. The way in which these two people work at keeping their love together, and strong, is inspiring and heartwarming. A truly enjoyable read.
Thought provoking, entertaining read.
I read this some time ago and found it fascinating. It was well-written and very imaginative. It takes a bit of attention to follow the way the book is arranged – but that also contributed to the enjoyment of the novel as a whole. A good read!
May favorite book of all time. There aren’t enough stars to rate this book. It still haunts me years later. I can read it over and over and get something new from it every time.
I’m not usually a romance reader but truly enjoyed time brought them together but heartbreakingly true them apart.
When my book club read this, everyone finished it! At over 500 pages in a month and science fiction too, this speaks volumes for the story.
While I personally didn’t like the book, I did finish it.
Characters hard to sympathize with.
I did not enjoy this book at all.
This is one of my favorite books. I read it at least once every year, and repeatedly enjoy it!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Made me wish I had the option of travelling back in time, if only…….
One of my favourite books of all time. Beautifully written and detailed throughout, this is a unique story about love thwarted by a time travelling ‘gene’, and the sacrifices made.
Good book club discussion
Very creative, exciting, compelling.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, however, don’t try to read more than one book at a time if this is one of your choices. This book needs your full attention.
This was actually written by a professor at Columbia College University where I attended briefly, so it already had a place in my heart. I saw the movie first and fell in love with it! (And not just because Rachel McAdams is one of my favorite actors) It’s a great original story. The book didn’t disappoint either. Though it was long and wasn’t exactly a page-turner, I did enjoy digger deeper into the story than the movie went and getting to know the characters better.
