Audrey Niffenegger’s innovative debut, The Time Traveler’s Wife, is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, an adventuresome librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: … Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity in his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.
The Time Traveler’s Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare’s marriage and their passionate love for each other as the story unfolds from both points of view. Clare and Henry attempt to live normal lives, pursuing familiar goals–steady jobs, good friends, children of their own. All of this is threatened by something they can neither prevent nor control, making their story intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.

This is an experience. It was one of the most amazing books I have ever read. It’s narrative is superb allowing one to visualize different times and places. I have read this book several times and each time it gives me chills and makes me both smile and cry. It is an emotional rollercoaster taking the reader along for the ride. This book stayed with me for weeks after I read it the first time, it is brilliant. It remains the standard to which I think about other time travel books. Oh by the way, much better than the movie.
A really well done time traveling book
Love this book.
I read this book before the movie came out and loved it…and also love the movie and have watched it many times. I have an affinity for stories that play back and forth with time…so fascinating.
This book is all about that, intelligently written with wonderful characters and romance.
I highly recommend!
confusing. gave up half way through
Enjoyed this book, but was difficult to follow at times.
Interesting concept. I enjoyed the book.
I loved this book. It’s been awhile since I have read the book and as a person that reads at least 20 books a month I can’t tell you how amazing and poignant this story was. Anything Ms Neffinger writes is worth reading. Don’t waste this opportunity to team an exceptional book.
So good, I’ve read it twice. And watched the movie twice. Haunting hardly describes it. It’s one of those stories you never forget.
Awesome characters. I read it some time ago and still recall parts of it quite often. Henry is a bad ass.
I just wish it were true. It would be a great adventure to have.
Beautiful story!! I’ll read it again!!
It took two times for this book to catch for me but once I got going the second time I couldn’t stop!!!! The story is well written and while it can be tricky bouncing back and forth in time it was a great read. It’s been many years since I read it but I think about the story line often!!
A good read, I liked it.
It’s a great love story, but the way Niffenegger strings together words makes the book come alive.
Moving and memorable. I wish she would write more books.
mind-blowing read
Love time travel stories. And this one has great characters. All the music references were like scavenger hunt built into the plot.
I love this book.
I adore this book and Ms. Niffenegger’s writing style. The characters really pulled me in.
