Audrey Niffenegger’s innovative debut, The Time Traveler’s Wife, is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, an adventuresome librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: … Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity in his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.
The Time Traveler’s Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare’s marriage and their passionate love for each other as the story unfolds from both points of view. Clare and Henry attempt to live normal lives, pursuing familiar goals–steady jobs, good friends, children of their own. All of this is threatened by something they can neither prevent nor control, making their story intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.

I’ve read this book twice. The characters are charming and tragic.
You must think outside the box on this one!
Beautifully drawn characters in an incredibly immersive story. A wonderful love story!
This is one of my top ten books I’ve ever read. I couldn’t put it down. Fascinating to imagine that time travel could be possible and how would you relate to a time traveling husband. Highly recommend it as an engrossing read.
Leaves you open to possibilities
One of my top five books ever!! Just leant it to a friend to make her read it, so good!!
I love time traveling novels and this is definitely one of the best out there.
Sad, but s great story.
The plot of the book is entertaining and original. It spurs one to keep reading to see what happens next. It is a romantic and unpredictable book. I like the characters and their interaction.
I love time travel literature and this was an original approach.
Not the kind of book I usually read but it was really good. Very unusual plot, you almost believed that time travel is possible and maybe hoped that it is.
There were many unexpected events in this book. The storyline is somewhat intense, but very intriguing.
This was a fabulous book. It’s been a long time since I’ve read it, but I remember I LOVED it!
Interesting plot.
loved the story of the characters
Very clever premise, well-treated to seem realistic. Thoughtful presentation of the possible ramifications and insightful rendering of the emotional fallout.
Didn’t know what to expect…but loved it! Great story, great characters, great twists and turns.
This book has stayed with me for years. The characters, the premise, the visual descriptions, it’s all so distinctive. It also introduced me to the artist Joseph Cornell, so that I pay particular attention to his work whenever I come across it. Of contemporary novels, it’s one of the most memorable I’ve ever read.
I read this as a bookclub choice. It was a challenge to figure out all the jumping around through time, but it was a good one to discuss.
did not like it at all.
