Audrey Niffenegger’s innovative debut, The Time Traveler’s Wife, is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, an adventuresome librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: … Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity in his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.
The Time Traveler’s Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare’s marriage and their passionate love for each other as the story unfolds from both points of view. Clare and Henry attempt to live normal lives, pursuing familiar goals–steady jobs, good friends, children of their own. All of this is threatened by something they can neither prevent nor control, making their story intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.

I don’t normally read science fiction, but loved this book.
Spot light on Chicago
One of my favorite books!
I read this years ago and it still brings a smile to my face whenever I see this cover! Very clever for the time.
So good…couldn’t put it down!
I was enthralled, cringing at what awful situation would accompany the next time jump.
One of my most very favorite books, very romantic!
A very good premise, though its popularity was lost on me, as there are inconsistencies the further into the book one goes, and it became untenable to suspend disbelief.
Loved the time travel!
It was very different from any other I have read..
I read this when it first came out so it was a fresh theme. Now there are thousands like this.
A memorable story that is impossible to put down. What is time? How can we take advantage of every moment? Are we “fated” to be together even across time. All of this and well written to boot.
Really liked it.
Time-travel books are a favorite!
Great book, took a little while to figure out the way things worked in the world set up by the book. But it was worth the effort!
One of my all time favorite books!
