A woman looks back on her long, rocky path to fulfillment in this revealing novel by the New York Times–bestselling author of The Good Earth. Considered one of the most personal and autobiographical novels by the Nobel and Pulitzer Prize–winning author, The Time Is Noon tells the story of Joan Richards and her journey of self-discovery during the first half of the twentieth century. As a child, … of the twentieth century. As a child, Joan finds her individuality obscured by her place in her family and her small town. In her adulthood, her struggle to discover her true self continues—but is inhibited by an unhappy marriage.
After breaking free from her husband, she begins a stark reassessment of the way she’s been living—and to her surprise, learns to appreciate all that lies ahead—in this elegant novel of chances lost and reclaimed, a beautifully affirming story of one woman’s journey to maturity.

Easy to read ,as always, from P.S.Buck
Can’t express my gratitude for Ms Pearl’s gifts to the world
This book introduces an interesting and sympathetic character who captures the richness of womanhood. I so appreciate Buck’s ability to tell the complete story of romance and marriage without the graphic details to which we are subjected today. The story takes many turns I did not predict. As a lifelong literature teacher, I enjoy plots which …
Whenever I pick up a Pearl S. Buck novel, I always approach it with initial skepticism (Do I REALLY want to read this?) and then wind up completely delighted (What a master storyteller!). Buck makes even the simplest story compelling. Awarded four stars on Goodreads.
This one is NOT taken from her experiences in China; it’s more …
I loved this book; I left it languishing for months since I had not been a PSB fan in the past. But as I read, I was enamored, drawn to the main character, Joan; she was a woman of great passion for nature; I felt her akin to the naïveté of Anne of Green Gables. But her depth of character , her devotion to those who needed her so desperately, …
This is an excellent novel. One of Pearl Bucks finest. She has a wonderful way of writing
I love the simplicity of Pearl Buck’s style. This is the third one of her books that I’ve finished reading. She has such insight into the diversity of ways of thinking and viewing the world.
did not like it
A very enjoyable read
Could not get into this book, although a I have loved a lot of other Buck books.
Very informative. Historically acurate.
Pretty typical of Buck with somewhat peculiar characters, with very strong characteristics, almost caricatures. Admittedly old-fashioned in culture. This protagonist is a young man has unbelievable luck in his friends and mentors. His purity of integrity is a bit wearing. This is an unfinished Buck book finished by her son. It was interesting …
I love every book that Pearl Buck has written. Her style is unique. I am swept into the story she is telling almost from the first paragraph.
I minored in Literature in college and read my first Pearl S. Buck, “The Good Earth” and I was smitten. I am so happy when I see one of her books I haven’t read on Kindle.
“The Time is Noon” is another 5 …
Pearl S. Buck is always good
