In the rugged Australian Outback, three generations of Clearys live through joy and sadness, bitter defeat and magnificent triumph — driven by their dreams, sustained by remarkable strength of character… and torn by dark passions, violence and a scandalous family legacy of forbidden love.
It is a poignant love story, a powerful epic of struggle and sacrifice, a celebration of individuality and … individuality and spirit. Most of all, it is the story of the Clearys’ only daughter, Meggie, who can never possess the man she so desperately adores — Ralph de Bricassart. Ralph will rise from parish priest to the inner circles of the Vatican… but his passion for Meggie will follow him all the days of his life.

This is an oldie. I read this book many years ago and loved it. It’s a great love story. I have always felt Priests should be allowed to marry.
I didn’t like it.
Couldn’t put it down.
Wonderful on all fronts. I read this years ago and would this recommend this book. Best one she wrote.
Absolutely epic. I have read it three times. It is absolutely epic. Descriptions are detailed but not monotonous. The characters are well fleshed out. The end of the book tended, for me to lack the depth of the plot leading up to it. Still a very engaging read.
I named my daughter Megan (simpler spelling than Meghann…)
Another great read. Explains a lot about Australia and the twisted paths human beings take. Highly recommend.
A classic that was as much of a delight to reread at 47 as it was to read for the first time at 11 or 12. Unforgettable characters and imagery…
Loved this book.
Saw the movie also
One of my favorite books
Loved the miniseries so I knew I would love the book 🙂 I read this years ago but its one of my favorites!
Thought-provoking
I read it so long ago and want to read it again!
Excellent!
This is an epic novel that holds up over time. Reading it again after decades was as entertaining as when it first appeared.
Loved it. Engrossing.
The ‘forbidden fruit’ theme of this story keeps the reader an emotional prisoner until the end.
I loved this book
This story was spellbinding!
