In the rugged Australian Outback, three generations of Clearys live through joy and sadness, bitter defeat and magnificent triumph — driven by their dreams, sustained by remarkable strength of character… and torn by dark passions, violence and a scandalous family legacy of forbidden love.
It is a poignant love story, a powerful epic of struggle and sacrifice, a celebration of individuality and … individuality and spirit. Most of all, it is the story of the Clearys’ only daughter, Meggie, who can never possess the man she so desperately adores — Ralph de Bricassart. Ralph will rise from parish priest to the inner circles of the Vatican… but his passion for Meggie will follow him all the days of his life.

Exceptionally good
A great romance in exotic locale.
It was a long time ago but I remember being captivated!
memorable and absorbing.
Read this book back in my 20’s! Loved it then and now!
I have read this novel twice. Once in college for pleasure and again much more recently. I think the characters are well developed and their actions are not always as you predicted them to be.
I highly recommend if you like learning about an-
other country in a different time and another way of life.
Epic tale – read it years ago.
One of those books that you remember long after you’ve read it. I can recall the story line, the characters, their conflicts….and it’s been over 20 years since I read it
Great realistic story. Easy to read and a page turner. Everything necessary for a great novel.
I read this years ago and it has stayed with me all this time. A beautifully written, powerf story. It may be time to read it again.
Worth a reread if it was read many years ago.
Interesting characters that wind their way through a compelling story that
evolves from one unusual path of life to another
A classic to read again and again! Long, but so worth it! From character development to haunting situations and the definition of forbidden love. Makes my top 5 ever list.
Read this book years ago and watched the movie. Like Gone with the Wind you can enjoy it time and time again.
