In the rugged Australian Outback, three generations of Clearys live through joy and sadness, bitter defeat and magnificent triumph — driven by their dreams, sustained by remarkable strength of character… and torn by dark passions, violence and a scandalous family legacy of forbidden love.
It is a poignant love story, a powerful epic of struggle and sacrifice, a celebration of individuality and … individuality and spirit. Most of all, it is the story of the Clearys’ only daughter, Meggie, who can never possess the man she so desperately adores — Ralph de Bricassart. Ralph will rise from parish priest to the inner circles of the Vatican… but his passion for Meggie will follow him all the days of his life.

Loved it.
I read this book years ago and enjoyed it then. I find it well written and engaging now. I would definitely recommend it.
I love this book!
I have read this book two or three times and I didn’t enjoy the kindle version as much as the hard cover book.
Beautifully written novel about a forbidden romance. Having it take place in Australia allows the reader to “feel” that culture. It’s an amazing story that follows the characters throughout their lifetimes.
The Thorn Birds is one of my lifetime favorite books. I have read it multiple times through the years and never tire of this incredible story.
I fell in love with this book. It pulls you in until you find yourself right there among the pages…knowing the characters, understanding them when no one else does, rooting for the main characters with all of your heart. Sublime!
A true classic
Read it years ago but it still stands out as one of the better books I’ve read in the decades since. Wonderful character development and story line. A must read.
An unforgettable family saga featuring a dominating matriarch and her various scheming relatives in colonial Australia.
Read it many years ago. A little slow at times
One of my favorite books. One of the few I will read over and over
One of my favorite books!
Great characters in a sweeping saga.
I read this book when it came out in the 70’s and watched the mini-series. Still one of my favorite stories of all time! I remember staying up all night to finish it.
What can I say? It’s a classic
