In the rugged Australian Outback, three generations of Clearys live through joy and sadness, bitter defeat and magnificent triumph — driven by their dreams, sustained by remarkable strength of character… and torn by dark passions, violence and a scandalous family legacy of forbidden love.
It is a poignant love story, a powerful epic of struggle and sacrifice, a celebration of individuality and … individuality and spirit. Most of all, it is the story of the Clearys’ only daughter, Meggie, who can never possess the man she so desperately adores — Ralph de Bricassart. Ralph will rise from parish priest to the inner circles of the Vatican… but his passion for Meggie will follow him all the days of his life.

I remember reading The Thornbirds in my twenties and fell in love with every character. McCullough drew me in to the haunting affair with Meggie and the Priest until….
excellent; many layers appreciated
A fun read. Highly recommended.
One of the first novels that grabbed me when I was young!
One of my favorite books of all time
One of the classics.
I read the Thorn Birds when it was first published. It was an amazing book. Kept me turning pages. I’ve read it again and it is still an amazing book. One of my all time favorites.
Read this many years ago but the story stayed with me for a long time.
One of the great novels ever penned. It catalogues the fortunes of a single family over three generations in a prose lyrical and heart-rending. It also takes aim at the Catholic Church with all its greed, hypocrisy, malevolence. A beautiful read. The movie/ mini series is one of the best adaptation ever as well.
One of my all-time favorites!
What a wonderful book! Among teh best I have read! What a beautiful story between a priest and a woman, that in our days (2019) makes even more sense and looks more real. A page turner!
Wonderful reading
