It is indeed nice book
It’s been too long since last time I have read the book prior to this one but the familiarity settled over me almost instantaneously. Maybe being such a hardcore fangirl/reader of this series made it easier for me to remember such a handful of characters. Because I am telling you all now, there are A LOT of them. And to think we’re only on the fourth angel i.e. among the 10 harbingers. HAHAHAHAH. so. much. fun.
But anyway, back to my review. Just to discuss the history briefly, every harbinger is in-charge for a certain temptation/sin. Anjali is their master but over a millennium or two, she has failed to guide them. But it’s not as black and white as it seemed. I will eventually get to that and will explain the mind-blowing complexity that is her character.
As suggested by its title, DISTRUST is the overall theme of the book. And I have never felt a theme as effective as this one.
1. The first half of the read is an utter chaos. Not only plot-wise but more especially relationship-wise. It’s as if everyone was so tense and filled with so much skepticism with one another. And it was not an easy read. As a result, miscommunication among all of them.
2. I admit, the distrust felt so tangible and so real that even I-as the reader-felt wary over all of them. I was bewildered and frustrated…to an extent that I started second-guessing what happened on these characters. I have a difficult time reconciling the adoration I have over these characters.
The haze slowly dissipates until I can finally breathe. The second half of the book started to unravel some important snippets of Anjali and her Predznaks’ pre-Predznak years. At first, Haydn’s history was revealed. I just have to say that so far…he’s my favorite Predznak. (Will also expound that later.) And amid all those disarray and messed up events…they ultimately lead to a great plot development. Now that I’m finished with this book, I became even more obsessed (if that’s even possible). And I have more content with me now. I have discovered a lot of things that are substantial to the story. Because I swear to you, all this chaos is not purposeless. This book is practically my come-to-Jesus moment. Nothing like the Father Himself to clear up the murky atmosphere. *winks*
Now onto the characters. There are only four characters I would like to discuss: Anjali, Haydn, Viktor and Hades.
1. Anjali. Ahhh, I’ve come to book 5 and this heroine has progressed into one I look up to. But that’s not to say she isn’t faultless. She’s not immune to her Predznaks’ temptations. If ever, she’s probably the most receptive to them. But what sealed my awe of her was when she opened up to Haydn at the island. In contrast to the angels, she was solely created for the Apocalypse. She had no options whatsoever to contemplate. She’s designed but with no proper guidelines to pursue. Imagine a smartphone being given to an archaic human being. Smartphone is one of the best things ever designed but if given to a caveman? Useless. That is Anjali. She’s designed for a pretty freaking greater purpose but smacked dab between those faithless angels? Seems hopeless. But what she said was still tattooed in my mind even till now. At least the Predznaks decided for themselves. They chose to.
2. Haydn. He’s my favorite so far from the angels because his history was actually very touching. He had no other agenda when he stepped forward for the role. It might have taken him so long to remember that tidbit but I can see it was all worth it. I think he even cemented the bonds of his fellow Predznaks, cleared up the cobwebs off of their minds so to speak.
3. Viktor. My god, I am in awe of this man’s love for Anjali. That’s not to say he didn’t waver or didn’t make unwise decisions. He did. But despite of those things, he endured them and was back in Anjali’s arms. This is like a case of I don’t think I could love more but surprise, surprise…I definitely could.
4. Hades. Five books later and I’m still confused whether I liked Hades or not. I guess…keep up with the shady stuffs and the whole mystery get-up thing. lol
From the looks of it, even a more enraged Predznak is coming to Anjali’s path. Jfc. How many more before the woman snaps? I worry for these angels. They keep taunting and belittling Anjali even despite of the OBVIOUS danger and lawful justice she carries. For angels they sure are dumb.
Tabitha has done it again. Delivered a gripping read that had me going from the first page. Continuing the story of Anjali and her journey to find her Predznak and bring about the apocalypse, we find Anjali fighting a new (old) enemy while seeking out her Angel of Distrust – Haydn.
On her search to find Hades’ missing harpy, Anjali finds herself abducted and in Celestial Bonds. First by mortals and then by Haydn. Haydn, as his name suggests is distrustful and like the previous angels finds himself a victim of his own power. He believes that by capturing her he can convince her to free his brothers and then kill her to free themselves and the world of her terrible power. Along the way, one of her 10 loves, Viktor, is sent to find Anjali. Apparently, he is the one soulmate always able to find her, no matter the life or distance. He has a built-in homing beacon to always find the woman he is destined to love, all while remembering each of their past lives.
Can Anjali break free of these unbreakable bonds to free herself? Can she break through to Haydn and reclaim him? Or will she be forced to take his life and find a new Angel of Distrust? Can Viktor find her? Will they end up together? Or will he get his wish and finally be free of the heartache and endless lives of loss? What about the Harpy and old enemy? What other twists and turns will Anjali face on her road to claiming her power and figuring out just when to end the world and be the Bringer of the Apocalypse?
