A magical and stunningly original story that charts the lives of three women in love with the wrong men from the bestselling author of Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick, The Rules of Magic “Headstrong women, reckless love affairs and a liberal dusting of the supernatural are the pleasurable trademarks of an Alice Hoffman novel. . . . [The Third Angel] should bewitch old fans and new readers … Angel] should bewitch old fans and new readers alike.”—People
Headstrong Madeleine Heller finds herself hopelessly attracted to her sister’s fiancé. Frieda Lewis, a doctor’s daughter and a runaway, becomes the muse of an ill-fated rock star. And beautiful Bryn Evans is set to marry an Englishman while secretly obsessed with her ex-husband. At the heart of the novel is Lucy Green, who blames herself for a tragic accident she witnessed at the age of twelve, and who spends four decades searching for the Third Angel–the angel on earth who will renew her faith.
Brilliantly evoking London’s King’s Road, Knightsbridge, and Kensington while moving effortlessly back in time, The Third Angel is a work of startling beauty about the unique, alchemical nature of love.

It has been a long time since I have read this book so I can not give you details of what I like about it. What I did want to say is that this is an author that never lets me down, I know that when I pick up one of her books I am not going to be disappointed. When I am feeling uneasy or sad or even just in the mood for something I know will be a …
It’s different. Requires concentration
I love anything by Alice Hoffman…
Like three books in one!
I am never disappointed by an Alice Hoffman book.
About a hotel with a stone lion. Three short stories and a wonderful read. Could not put it down.
Great Read!!!!
I found this book hard to read, the method in which the author went back and forth between chapters and sometimes within chapters — difficult to follow. I had to keep going back to remind myself of what I had just read. Disappointing. I think if the book had been written in a linear fashion I would have enjoyed the characters and the story. I …
Original story line with an interesting format.
Did not finish. Didn’t care about the characters.
Interesting composition. Front to back. – last to first
Enjoyed the unique format–working backwards from the present.
It seemed shallow and the dialogues weren’t the way people talk. Not great
The usual alive hoffman: outstanding, compelling
I am an Alice Hoffman fan. This is entertaining , but not her best.
Usual high standards of writing by this author, interesting characters, enthralling story line
Typical book by this author. Her books are always a little quirky but are enjoyable to read.
I found it was not as riveting as The Diary of Anne Frank, probably because much of it was written by the author after the war so not as much of the childhood innocence came through. Also it is hard going, as is any book from this period.
This book was just okay. It is basically broke down into three intertwined stories, I enjoyed the second one most, the first one least.
Enjoyable, though not as memorable as The Dovekeeper and The Museum of Extraordinary things. Alice Hoffman fans will find the predictable and enchanted humanesque creatures that set her books apart.
