A magical and stunningly original story that charts the lives of three women in love with the wrong men from the bestselling author of Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick, The Rules of Magic “Headstrong women, reckless love affairs and a liberal dusting of the supernatural are the pleasurable trademarks of an Alice Hoffman novel. . . . [The Third Angel] should bewitch old fans and new readers … Angel] should bewitch old fans and new readers alike.”—People
Headstrong Madeleine Heller finds herself hopelessly attracted to her sister’s fiancé. Frieda Lewis, a doctor’s daughter and a runaway, becomes the muse of an ill-fated rock star. And beautiful Bryn Evans is set to marry an Englishman while secretly obsessed with her ex-husband. At the heart of the novel is Lucy Green, who blames herself for a tragic accident she witnessed at the age of twelve, and who spends four decades searching for the Third Angel–the angel on earth who will renew her faith.
Brilliantly evoking London’s King’s Road, Knightsbridge, and Kensington while moving effortlessly back in time, The Third Angel is a work of startling beauty about the unique, alchemical nature of love.

The Third Angel is brilliantly crafted, deeply moving, and utterly enchanting. I loved these characters for their complexity, their unpredictability and for the way they showed subtle and shifting nuance in human nature. One of the best things about Alice Hoffman’s writing is that she grounds you in detail and also frees your imagination to soar …
It’s only fair to start with a disclaimer: Alice Hoffman is my favorite writer of all time. She’s a great story teller and her use of language is so pitch perfect that it only takes a couple of pages before I am inside whatever new world she’s invented. Each time I read one of her books I am transported to another place and time where every day …
An extraordinary experience in every possible way.
CAPTIVATING!!! Loved how it STARTED in the recent years and went back with the characters. All. Revolving around an AWESOME LOCATION!!! HATED having to put the BOOK DOWN!!!!!!
Loved it! Alice Hoffman never disappoints.
Readers can count on Alice Hoffman to give us a wonderful story!
Beautiful story line.
I’m an Alice Hoffman fan but this was not my favorite.
Three stories in one book made it a little confusing.
Loved the book but had to reread the beginning after I finished – the story begins in the present and finishes in the past so I was having a hard time remembering the character connections – hence the 4 stars. Otherwise it’s a very engrossing story and Hoffman writes very colorfully and with lots of detail, drawing vivid pictures in the reader’s …
magical
The book was divided into three parts. The characters in Part One were all pretty annoying, but Parts Two and Three made up for that.
Sort of 3 short stories throughout a lengthy span of years that all tie in to each other. Really enjoyed the first 2 stories, but not so much the 3rd.
I enjoyed this book. She creates interesting characters and situations.
I loved the interaction between characters and the plot twists and turns. The hopeful, almost happy ending made me smile.
I gave up half-way though because I didn’t like any of the characters. Why spend time with people that you don’t like?
When I finished this book, I went back to the beginning and started reading it over again. The ending was very satisfying.
Very disappointing for Alice Hoffman. It just went on and on and didn’t do anything to hold my attention – and I read almost 50% of the book.
Liked the story- characters were realistic. Descriptions of locale and weather were well done- you could feel as if you were part of the story. Liked it!
Great read! Love the character relationships.
Beautifully written story of how a family can be forever changed in an instant.
