Years of trying unsuccessfully to conceive a child have broken more than Angie DeSaria’s heart. Following a painful divorce, she moves back to her small Pacific Northwest hometown and takes over management of her family’s restaurant. In West End, where life rises and falls like the tides, Angie’s fortunes will drastically change yet again when she meets and befriends a troubled young woman. … woman.
Angie hires Lauren Ribido because she sees something special in the seventeen-year-old. They quickly form a deep bond, and when Lauren is abandoned by her mother, Angie offers the girl a place to stay. But nothing could have prepared Angie for the far-reaching repercussions of this act of kindness. Together, these two women—one who longs for a child and the other who longs for a mother’s love—will be tested in ways that neither could have imagined.

This is a realistic story of family. Heartache, loss, mistakes, forgiveness, but most of all, how love will see us through anything.
Great book! Love the writing of Kristen Hannah.
A better side of life
Good story line
Loved it!
very good
Nobody writes about relationships better than Kristin Hannah.
Kristin Hannah doesn’t disappoint in this well-written story. The characters and story are entirely believable.
Love all her books. This one too!
I liked it. She is great with character building. This didn’t hold a candle to Night ingale But enjoyable.
Love all of her books
I don’t read a lot of chick lit but I had read The Nightingale (NOT chick lit) by the same author and loved it, so I gave it a try and found it to be really well written and kept me coming back for more.
I have an adopted child and It was so meaningful to see what a process a woman must go through not only when she gives up her child but also when she can not. I often think of my child’s birth mother and say prayers of thanksgiving that she had the courage to go through with the pregnancy but also the courage to do what she felt was right for her …
She is the only author that can make me cry. She is a great story teller.
Kristin Hannah was written a beautiful story of how two very broken hearts could come together to help heal each other. I love Kristin’s books and this is one I certainly enjoyed.
This book has wonderful, caring, compassionate characters who come alive and make us believe that children are the ultimate gift even with all the rough spots that go with them. Family can be those you choose to include. The love and heartache happen to down to earth people who tug at your heartstrings and tissue box.
I liked the way the family pulled together for each other. I also like the growth of the main character.
Enjoyable read
I could not put this book down. Fell asleep with it and woke up and finished it. Loved it all
