Everything seems quiet on Ann Brooks’s suburban cul-de-sac. Despite her impending divorce, she’s created a happy home and her daughters are adjusting to the change. She feels lucky to be in a supportive community and confident that she can handle any other hardship that life may throw her way. But then, right before Thanksgiving, a crisis strikes that turns everybody’s world upside down. Suddenly … Suddenly her estranged husband is forced back onto her doorstep, bringing with him his beautiful graduate assistant. Trapped inside the house she once called home, confronted by challenges she never could have imagined, Ann must make life-or-death decisions in an environment where the simple act of opening a door to a neighbor could jeopardize all she holds dear.
The choices she makes will impact the lives of those around her irrevocably and linger in the reader’s memory in this marvelous first novel, written with authority, grace, and wisdom.

I loved it.
Couldn’t put it down. wanted to keep reading to see how it all ended
I was up until 2:30 am! I had to finish it. Incredible characters and story line! Fabulous.
Very different from the usual fiction.
I read this book in one day; it was impossible to put down. The characters are very real, and yet complex. I would have never thought about a pandemic happening, but this story showed the possibilities. It’s chilling! And yet the book has some very tender moments.
I was very disappointed in this book. It was very tedious to read, without enough action to keep my interest. The drama was only between the personalities of the characters and got boring to me.
Some unrealistic actions by the family early on to increase their dramatic situation were unnecessary (eg, power goes during snow storm, family cooks all their food in the freezer, instead of trying to preserve it outside in the significant amount of snow that caused the power outage). Almost quit on the book about halfway through, but finished it.
Loved the book
Very engaing. Makes you stop and think what could happen.
