From New York Times bestselling author Kim Karr comes a flirty new love story. The whole stethoscope-and-white coat thing isn’t my cup of tea.I prefer a man with an artistic vein in his body. 9 – 5 hours. And I can definitely do without the half-lidded, sleepy bedroom eyes. (Okay, so those are kind of sexy.)Tall, dark, and handsome doesn’t change the fact that he’s arrogant, cocky, and rude. Not … fact that he’s arrogant, cocky, and rude.
Not that I care, but he’s made it clear he wants nothing to do with a quirky girl like me, which is why he said no.
Turns out no isn’t an option.
I have a quickie wedding to plan, and Dr. Jake Kissinger doesn’t have a choice. He looks at our situation like he’s stuck with me, but in reality, I’m stuck with him. Stuck with his pouty mouth. His long, lean body. And stuck with those loose, low riding scrub pants. (Okay, so the doctor thing is growing on me.)
When spending time together turns into more than it should, I know I’m in trouble.
He isn’t supposed to make my heart pound.
I’m not supposed to make him look twice.
And we aren’t supposed to spend the night together. (Okay, so he has more than one artistic vein in his body, and other places.)
Falling for him is definitely a mistake.
Here’s the thing…
Jake is unavailable, and I know it.
Just not in the way you might think.
I guess you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

A beautifully captivating, witty, and charming story. Jules and Jake are perfectly imperfect, the start off on the wrong foot, but slowly they develop a cute friendship. We are taken on a journey of letting go of the past, growth, and undeniable love. I liked this book.
Probably more 4.5. A nice story with a surprising connection for our H/h. Fairly well edited – a few more misses than I care to see.
Jules is on the verge of losing her uncle’s wedding planning business. She needs one big client to try and save the business. Enter Jake and his sister Rory. Rory is marrying the Governor’s son, and it turns out her family is nothing to sneeze about. Jules is delighted, but mistaking Jake for the groom nearly turns disastrous. However, there is some urgency to planning the wedding, so Jules is hired and Jake steps in to help make plans. Thus begins their road to HEA. There are shared connections – of the very tragic sort – and lots of banter and innuendo. The road isn’t easy, but with lots of people pulling for them and lots of encouragement, love finally triumphs.
This is an enjoyable, mostly light-hearted, read. Jake is lots of fun to read, and it is really cute how he pays her back in the end. Enjoy.
paging Dr.Kiss…
paging Dr. Kiss…
If I were a lusty person, the thoughts of a hot single doctor giving me unlimited orgasms might make me drool. (I was total a pile of drool.)
If I were shallow and all about insignificant things, I would make him play doctor with me. (You know you thought it too.)
But Jake is more than the first impression you get. More than Jules first impulsive reaction…but what a first impression.
The Thing About Love is cute, sexy, and sweet. It has some intense history and just enough mystery to keep you twisting for answers.
reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood
The chemistry between the two main characters overshadowed the less than exciting sister/brother in law. Without giving too much away, I loved Mimi as much as the leads. Beautiful story telling of their back stories.
How can you go wrong with a sexy as sin hot doctor and a beautiful quirky wedding planner??? Well, read this sweet, funny, emotional read and find out just how right they can be. Such a beautiful read that has moments of heartbreaking situations which will definitely captivate you.
I am such a fan of Kim’s work and this is now another favorite of mine!
When you don’t believe in love, happily ever after and soulmates ….what do you do? You plan the ultimate fantasy weddings for the people around you. If you happen to trip and fall in love along the way ….No that would never happen…..or will it!?
Jules is just trying to make her way in the wedding planning industry. She has inherited the floundering company from her uncle. She wants to prove herself, bring in fresh ideas and make this work …wedding planning can certainly be a cut throat business. She makes it her highest priority to get to know her customers, learn their wants and quirks and give them their dream wedding!
She may have just landed her golden ticket with a very high profile bride…but it all goes astray when she begins to think that the groom is hitting on her! The bride loves her ideas and she realizes that she may have been off when she realizes that she now needs to plan the wedding with the brides brother ….Dr. Kiss. So Dr. Kiss is a skeptic, non romance believing kind of man but wants to be there for his sister! Let the games..I mean the planning begin!
I absolutely loved the banter and push and pull between these characters. Neither one wants to be wrong or the first to admit their feelings! This may be their demise if they can’t learn!
Loved it!!

Holy cow and wow!!!!! Kim Karr has knocked my socks off! This romance has EVERYTHING!!! It’s funny, it’s emotional, it’s romantic and sexy….it’s PERFECTION!!!!!
Jules is a wedding planner who has taken over her uncle’s successful wedding consultant company so he can enjoy retirement. One slight problem….since Jules has taken over, she is losing money, even after she has put her own savings into it. Now, her uncle has given her an ultimatum. She has to the end of the summer to turn things around or he is selling it. She thinks she has the perfect solution, land the governor’s future daughter-in-law as a client. Jules is positive she can do it, and she is more than ready for her first meeting to pitch her proposal. That is until a case of mistaken identity occurs, and she ends up smashing cake in the bride’s brother’s face. The brother who will be heavily involved in picking a planner. Yeah, Jules and Jake don’t start off on good footing, but as they spend more time together, the enemies become friends and even more. Too bad, they know hardly anything about love.
Not only did Kim Karr blow me away with the storyline, I fell in love with her characters as well, not just Jules and Jake, but with Finn, Montgomery, Rory, Jaxson, all of them. The additional characters were just as important to the book as Jules and Jake. These two were meant to be together. They had a lot to learn about love to get their HEA, but they were important lessons that were necessary.
Kim Karr is a new author to me, but she now sits at the top of my list of favorite writers. This book is a perfect example of why I have come to love her so much. She takes our own perceptions of love such as, love is patient, love is kind, and she turns them around. Through these characters, I learned that love isn’t always patient. I’m a perfect example of that myself. Sometimes love isn’t always kind. I know I don’t always use kind words when I’m angry at my husband. However, she also showed the magic of love in its imperfection. Through Jules and Jake, she showed me that love is happiness and joy. It can also be sad, and it also can be incredibly scary, especially when you give your heart completely to someone else who has the power to nuture it or destroy it. But, love is a gamble that is worth it every single time. Thanks, Kim Karr, for reminding me of that!
Looking forward to getting a book about Jaxson and one about Finn!

The Thing About Love by Kim Karr is most definitely my favorite book by her to date. Written in dual perspective, we meet Jules and Jake.
After getting the wrong impression about Jake, Jules has to work closely with him to plan his sister’s wedding. The two are off to a rough start but all of that changes as they begin to work together. Of course Jules is working to save her business and has no interest in a man. As soon as the wedding is over, Jake is leaving and has no desire to find love.
However, life has a different path for both Jules and Jake and they are forever connected in a tragedy that has jaded both of their lives.
The Thing About Love was a sexy, sweet and heartbreakingly beautiful story of two people, destined to be together from the moment they locked eyes. I was emotionally invested in this story and did not put it down until I had finished it. The Thing About Love is a unique love story that is a must read!
4.5 Stars
The Thing About Love is a Contemporary Romance told in dual POV. This book borders on Rom-Com at times, with some cute, laugh out loud moments that lighten the mood, and is a fast paced read. The comic relief is needed and appreciated, especially since both the main characters have such a sad past that’s affected their previous relationships. This adds an emotional touch to the story, due to them unwittingly sharing a bond, formed by a painful day in history; that so many others share, too.
Juliette “Jules” Easton is a wedding planner that’s due to take over her uncle’s thirty-five year old business, Easton Design & Weddings. Unfortunately, while she excels in planning, it’s the day-to-day management she has trouble with. She desperately needs a new client in order to keep the business from failing. So when she gets a call from Rory Kissinger, a prominent debutante, who’s engaged to marry Remy Kyle, the Governor’s son, this could be the job that can save the business from going under. The first step to convince Rory she’s up for the event is to sample the perfect wedding cake, and she has the best baker available to do just the job. It’s too bad she throws a slice of cake at Dr. Jake Kissinger, the bride’s handsome brother, who Jules mistakes first for a flirty maintenance worker and then the fiancé. She really should’ve googled images of the happy couple.
“Suddenly, my uncle’s voice echoed in my ear. ‘Always do your research so you can anticipate your client’s needs’.”
Dr. Jake “Kiss” Kissinger is not impressed with his flighty sister’s choice of wedding planner. Since he’s the one that’s paying for the wedding, his opinion is to veto Jules and look for someone who’s competent. When the wedding has to be moved up, due to some very unfortunate news, they don’t have many options open to them. And with the bride and groom going off to college, he’s going to have to lend a hand and organize everything for Rory. And she has her heart set with Easton Design & Weddings planning the event. A wedding that has no budget, because both Jake and Rory are Beatrice Beau Crawford’s only grandchildren, heirs to Crawford Enterprise, and one of Atlanta’s most influential names.
When Jake puts aside his reservations and gives Jules the job, they have to work together to plan, and makes sure that Rory’s day is perfect. And of course spending so much time together, and the close proximity, makes them realize they’re attracted to each other. Something Jake makes clear will lead to nothing, as he’s planning to move to NYC in the near future. When they discover they share a bond, to an unfortunate day in history, it seems as if fate has something else in store for them.
“I couldn’t stop that time in my life from coming back, and I wasn’t sure I even wanted to.
Sometimes remembering wasn’t so bad.
Then again…sometimes it was.”
This story has a beautiful epilogue that made me so happy, I might have cried a tear or two, and so have a tissue handy. You just might need it!
THE THING ABOUT LOVE by Kim Karr is a contemporary, adult, erotic, stand-alone, romance story line focusing on Dr. Jake Kissinger, and wedding planner Juliette Easton.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Jake and Juliette) THE THING ABOUT LOVE follows the building romance between ER physician Jake Kissinger, and wedding planner Juliette Easton. A case of mistaken identity finds our heroine smashing a piece of cake into Jake Kissinger’s face, only to realize her mistake may have cost her the biggest socialite wedding of the year. With the family owned Easton Design and Weddings of Atlanta on the verge of bankruptcy Juliette struggles to remain professional in the face of her attraction to the bride’s brother, and the potential for everything to fall apart. What ensues is the building relationship between Jake and Juliette when they are forced to work together to bring about the wedding of the year; and the potential fall out when love isn’t enough between our leading couple.
Jake Kissinger doesn’t do relationships. He is a man on a mission to get in, and get out, in the hopes of heading to New York to work for the same hospital where his father worked years before. Falling in love was never on the agenda but meeting Juliette Easton finds our hero caught between the woman he loves and the future he is determined to unfold.
Juliette Easton is a bit of a mess; an impulsive young woman who finds herself in trouble when her business decisions threaten the livelihood of the family owned East Design and Weddings. Winning the contract to plan one of Atlanta’s biggest weddings is sure to bring some life back into the business but a series of mishaps all but threatens to close down the thirty-five year old company.
The relationship between Juliette and Jake begins acrimoniously when Juliette mistakes Jake for the bride’s flirting fiancé. Forced to work together by the bride herself, Jake and Juliette will succumb to their attraction only to discover that love is never enough. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense but, once again, I do take issues with the use of a certain four-letter word-only used once (for shock value more than anything else)- but once is enough to push all of my buttons.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Jake’s sister (the bride to be) Rory Kissinger, and her fiancé Remington (Remy); their ailing grandmother Beatrice Beau Crawford Alexander; her butler and man-servant Roger; and home care aid Matthew. We are also introduced to Jake’s mentor Dr. Peter Wright; Jake’s estranged mother Monica; Juliette’s uncle Edward Easton and her cousin Finn; cake designer Montgomery and his partner Archer; and Juliette’s ex-fiance Jaxson Cassidy. I am looking forward to a happily ever after for Jaxson Cassidy.
THE THING ABOUT LOVE is a sexy and sassy story of romance and love; fate and forever. The premise is engaging and intoxicating; the romance is captivating and emotional; the characters are fun and inspiring.
This was a fun read that had me laughing out loud at times. I really enjoyed Juliette, shes a bit quirky, she has a lot of spunk, and sometimes she just doesn’t know when not to say things….yep total foot in mouth syndrome.
Jake, well lets just start out with YUMMY. Yes ladies he can totally be your next book boyfriend. Hot Doctor that is totally devoted to his family…yep like I said YUMMY.
I really enjoyed the differences between Jake and Jules although they are like night and day the sexual attraction could be felt right through my kindle. HOT doesn’t really describe some of their encounters enough, seriously there was one scene in particular which involves Jules peeking around and finding Dr. Yummy in the shower….ok, that’s all your going to get from me, if you want more pick up a copy and find out what happens you wont be disappointed.
Whether your new to Kim Karr’s books or already a fan of hers, you’ll want to check out this fun little gem. There is so much going on that will not only have you laughing out loud, hot under the collar, but you will find yourself tearing up at times as well. Happy Reading!
I received a copy of this book free from the author.
The thing about love is it can find you when you least expect it. In this case – a wedding planner and the guy paying for the next wedding she’s planning.
Julia aka Jules is a wedding planner for her uncles business. She’s in desperate need of planning the wedding of the year when it lands on her doorstep. She just happens to make a complete fool of herself with Jake Kissenger – who happens to be the man paying for said wedding.
Now at this point Jules and Jake are having to spend lots of time together. Something neither of them looks forward to doing. You know the best way to fall for someone is to spend time with them, right?
Well – in the case of Jules and Jake it definitely helps take the negative out of their “relationship” and assists on putting them on friendly terms. There’s a lot of give an take in this book with these characters.
Several of the secondaries will have you cracking right up. Eventually Jake and Julia get ’round to it. Just as you pull for them to, and how sweet it is. This sexy ER doctor and the beautiful wedding planner. Mmmmhmmmm.
A new hot stand-alone from Kim Karr which is told in the dual perspectives of Jack and Jules. Jules is hired to plan the wedding of Dr Jake Kissinger’s sister, it’s a wedding that needs to planned in a hurry because Jake’s grandmother is dying and she wants to see her granddaughter married. There is no doubting the instant attraction between Jules (the quirky wedding planner)and Jake (the hot doctor with the nickname of Dr Kiss) from the moment they meet sparks fly but that doesn’t mean they have to like each other and it certainly doesn’t mean they have to get along. Jake’s sister is off at college so it’s him that has to coordinate with woman he wishes he wasn’t attracted too, the woman he wants to avoid. The chemistry is sizzling, the banter is perfect, the passion is steamy and I loved the build up of the relationship between Jake and Jules. They are a couple you can’t help falling in love with, they will make you laugh and make you cry, they sweet and hot all rolled into one and this book is a true testament to “ we have no control over who we fall in love with, it just happens”. A brilliant funny sweet read.
This book was not what I was expecting but in no means did that diminsh my enjoyment. It was a journey of love, acceptance, forgiveness and letting go. You have the broody brother who is in charge of the decisions for his sisters wedding and the very frazzled wedding planner. Jake and Juliette are perfect for each other and their lives intertwine more than they know. I loved the twists and the stories within this book. This is one book that I will be reading again and again.
The Thing About Love by Kim Karr is a sweet and very often funny story about opposites attracting. Jules Easton is a wedding planner who is running her Uncle’s wedding design business. She’s doing a less than stellar job and is at the end of her tether when she meets Jake Kissinger.
Jake is Rory’s brother, the bride that Jules is due to have her first meeting with. Attraction sizzles between them from the moment they make eye contact, until the Rory arrives and gets excited upon seeing Jake there. Mistaking him for a cheating fiance after seemingly having come on to her before Rory’s arrival, Jules acts on her impulsive nature and shows Jake what she thinks of him.
Jake’s not impressed and refuses to have Jules be the wedding planner. He’s holding the purse strings so the final decision is down to him not the bride.
However, circumstances force him to change his mind and make him work closely with Jules to bring Rory’s dream wedding to fruition. The initial attraction soon burst into full on entanglement and before they know it, they’re so deep into each other, they’ll never get free.
Jake has issues, the hardest being he doesn’t believe in love and Jules is searching for the ying to go with her yang. She thought she’s found it once before but saw her mistake before she and her ex-fiance took the plunge. Now, she just continually second guesses herself.
Jake and Jules were a super hot and sexy couple, in and out of the bedroom. I enjoyed meeting the secondary character. Rory was sweet, Archer and Montgomery even sweeter, but Mimi stole the show. Well, her and the dogs lol.
This was a fast paced but not rushed romance, Jake and Jules spent a lot of time talking and getting to know each other and finding similarity and connections they’d never known about. But Jake’s issues with love become a problem in the end. Now, it’s down to Jules to fight for what she wants. But will she? Can she?
As in all romances, if you want it, you have to go after it, isn’t that The Thing About Love.
I received an advance copy of this book for review
Such a wonderful read – I don’t think I’ve cried this much in a long time but enjoyed the HEA.
We have the wonderful Jules/Juliette and Jake in this book. Both have a very tragic backstory (which I won’t spoil) but it does make up a good section of the book, as it should.
Jules is a wedding planner and Jake is doctor and their first meeting is classic and hysterical. And who doesn’t love a scene with cake in it. Jules is hired to handle Jake’s sister’s wedding after a rough start with the hot doctor. Jake, of course, is the older protective brother doing anything to make the kid sister happy.
They have a lot of bumps that come up but end up with the hot, sexy feels that we all know and love from Kim. While the sex is off the charts hot, we still have all the issues surrounding planning a wedding and Jake having a future he thinks he has all planned out after little sisters wedding.
Enter some great friends of Jules, ill family members, ex’s and the regular family members and we get some good laughs. But what brought me to my crying at 3 am, was the back story and how Jake/Jules had actually met many years before during the tragic time they were both working so hard to deal with. Add in the continued healing due to the tragedy and well ugly crying.
They both do come to terms with their lives and make it back to each other and we have our HEA. We also get a note about books for some of the other characters, which is greatly appreciated and loved.
Thanks Kim for another wonderful read with all the feels, ups and down that you are so good at writing!!!

I’m so emotionally drained right now. You know, I’ve been in romance publishing for five years now, and I still don’t understand book covers. Because I saw this one and was like, “Ooohh… a cute, sexy doctor book! I love Grey’s Anatomy! Sign me up.”
Little did I know, this book has excruciatingly raw emotional depth and these characters have mortally wounded my soul with how wonderful they were. I’m officially dead. This post coming to you from beyond the grave. Really though, it was just that good.
Pseudo spoiler: if you are part of the 9/11 generation, get ready to feel the FEEEEELS.
What a wonderful surprise! This was not at all the book I was expecting. I thought I would read a quick, hot, boom, bang and done. Nope. It is subtle, but it is there. The story moved me. It had emotional elements and the characters were well developed. Don’t get me wrong, there was plenty of steamy, hot sexy times! But there is a back story as well.
Jules Easton is a wedding planner at Easton Design & Weddings. She is taking over the business that her uncle spent 35 years building. However, the business is not doing so well. She loves her job and does it really well, but struggles with the business end of it.
“Don’t get me wrong – I was all about love. In fact, I was so much about finding the perfect love that I made it the basis for my career.”
So it’s do or die time. An opportunity to plan the wedding of one of the founding families and the most influential names in Atlanta. She needs to land this high profile wedding to keep things afloat. This would definitely put Easton Weddings & Design back on the map.
Dr. Jake Kissinger needs to help plan his sister Rory’s fairy tale wedding. Time is short, so he has to step up and make a lot of decisions. Jake and Jules are stuck together planning this wedding but things don’t always go as planned.
“All of a sudden the fact that I had to work closely with him became very real.”
“Him.”
“The jackass.”
“Him.”
“The hot doctor with the kissable lips.”
“Dr. Kiss.”
Although Jake comes off as a total jerk in the beginning, he softens as he gets closer to Jules. I loved their banter and chemistry. They both have a lot of issues but we find out that they are more alike than either thought. Jake considers himself unavailable emotionally for love while Jules is afraid of getting hurt or left behind.
There is a reason that Jake is unavailable and Jules is afraid. Those reasons were emotional and touching. A total game changer for this story. It evolved into a tender, sweet build up. And the ending was just right. As I said above, I expected one thing and got something so much more! I look forward to Jaxson’s story next!
“The thing about love was it didn’t have to be perfect.”
“It just had to be right.”

I didn’t know what to expect going into this book, but after reading the blurb I knew I had to read it.
I was pleasantly surprised the amount of emotion this story brought out of me. I was laughing at times, swooning at other times, and also crying my eyes out. I think what took me by surprise the most was the background story of Jules and Jake….I wasn’t expecting the topic it covered. This story was both heart wrenching and heart warming.
The Thing About Love is Kim Karr’s newest standalone novel in her newest series. Each book is going to focus on a new character/couple, but we do meet all the other characters in this story. This is an enemies to lovers story and is told in Dual POV. I thought the pace and flow of the story was perfect and I couldn’t help but get swept up in the storyline. I loved the characters that we met….not only Jules and Jake, I loved the secondary characters as well. They all played an important part in this novel.
We follow Jules and Jake’s journey to finding love and forgiveness. Jules is a woman trying to run and takeover her Uncle’s wedding business and is having a hard time with it. Jake is a local ER doctor who would do anything for his sister Rory, except maybe hire the wedding planner she wants….Jules. To say that Jules and Jake’s first meeting was stress filled and also filled with misunderstanding is an understatement. But when Jake’s failing grandma requests that they move Rory’s wedding up so she can be there, Jake knows he has no other choice but to hire Jules. What happens from here is an entertaining and swoony story about two people learning to open up. Can Jules and Jake work out their differences?? Will these two ever find their HEA?? Read this fun filled but also emotional romance story.
I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. I think once you pick up this book, you will find it hard to put down. You will also become invested in the characters and storyline. If you are already a fan of Kim Karr’s writing then you don’t want to miss her latest masterpiece!!!!
