I thought that The Thief of All Light was almost impossible to put down. The characters will stay with you after you have read the book. The writing is superbly riveting, (the author is a detective) which will suck you in and make your mouth drop open. If you love thrillers, this is tops in its class. Be prepared to be wowed!!
A crime thriller written by a real-life detective? Yes, please! The author uses his knowledge of police procedure to make this book as realistic as they come. Descriptive writing, fantastic character development, a chilling killer; this book ticks off all the boxes for the perfect crime novel. Not for the faint of heart. It will shake you to your core.
A 5star novel .! A thriller that will keep you reading til the end . Page turner ,fast, read! Carrie is a rookie cop hunting a serial killer . A must read !!
Wow, I didn’t realize I never reviewed this book, just rated it. Let’s remedy this now!
This is the first book I have read by this author, who is also a police detective and he brings a lot of experience to this book. Being a total true crime geek, as soon as I started reading this book I couldn’t stop.
The book follows Carrie Santero, a new somewhat immature detective and Jacob Rein, a former detective, as they try to catch a serial killer. But this serial killer isn’t following the rules and the twists and turns in the this fast paced police thriller will keep you guessing.
This book was amazing! I did not want to put it down. Non-stop action, incredible character development, and a fantastic story with the perfect amount of detail. Mr. Schaffer’s words paint a beautifully terrifying picture keeping you captivated and leaving you wanting more.
This was tense and fast paced! A great thriller to read and it’s easy to get sucked in. Santero and Rein are very like able characters. Neither one is afraid to tell it like it is! If you have a weak stomach it may not be for you. Some parts can be highly detailed but other than that a GREAT read!!! I would definitely be recommending this book to people!
Fantastic! I devoured this book in a day and a half simply for the fact that I just couldn’t put it down. I felt invested in the characters and needed to know what was going to happen next. The authors knowledge of the police world is a huge asset to this story, it makes you feel like you are right there with them for the ride.
The killers m.o. was something I haven’t seen before in a story and it was fascinating. The final five chapters were a whirlwind of nerves and emotions and I feel it ended perfectly.
I absolutely loved the humor in this book between Santero, Rein and Waylon. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times. Fair warning, there are a couple graphic scenes that could trigger some people, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get past if it was throughout the book but it was fine for me after the club scene. I get it.
Overall I loved The Thief of all Light and am happy to know there are two more to follow up in the future after this one.
Fine, quick read.
main character a bit immature for role she plays in this book. makes it hard to take rest seriously
Well-written; engaging characters.
The Thief of All Light is a well-crafted crime novel, written in a way that shows the author’s level of experience both as a writer, and as an officer of the law. I listened via an Audible download, and although I planned to peruse the story on my daily commute and finish it off on a roadtrip later this Fall, I finished it on my headphones in the span of three afternoons. Schaffer pulled me in with characters who were well developed, crisp and believable dialogue, and a story that just wouldn’t stop moving forward.
The narration was also well-done, and the recording was clear and true. I normally shy away from male narrators for novel-length books because they tend to come off a bit hokey when dealing with multiple characters over that length of time, but Neil Hellegers truly brought the story and characters to life.
I am left wanting more, and I hope the series continues. Soon.
Love this book. Well written plot, great characters, can’t wait for the next one.
