Intense!
The Theif of All Light by Bernard Schaffer is a suspenseful and heart pounding story that will keep you turning the pages to find out what happened.
Carrie Santero is a rookie cop with a troubled past and an optimistic future, until her best friend goes missing. She partners up with Jacob Rein, detective extraordinaire, in order to find her best friend Molly. Does Carrie have what it takes to keep it together?
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I found it started off slow and I had to push myself to continue and I am very glad I did. After the book picked up I was unable to put it down
TTOAL Caught me at page one.
I highly recommend this book as a page turner..
>A Thrill Ride of a Book For Sure! < One of the best thrillers I've read so far this year! It kept me on the edge of my seat, I held my breath for the whole last half! I can't wait to read the next one to see what other cases these characters get up to! If you like true crime and detective stories and television shows, this book is one you need to read! You'll enjoy it as much as I did!
This is the first book i have read by Bernard Schaffer and it certainly will not be my last. I am so glad i had the opportunity to come across this author. I was hooked right from the start! Wonderful flow with twists and turns that keep you guessing till the end. If you are looking to start a new series i highly recommend reading this book and all future books to come. Great police detective thriller that will not disappoint!
Amazing read, thrill ride from start to finish! Schaffer knows his stuff and this novel shows off his talent well. You won’t want to miss out on this one. I for sure will be reading anything he writes.
I really enjoyed this book! I listened to it on audiobook. I would have listened to it straight through, if it weren’t for everyday life stuff. The characters were relatable, the humor was good, & the thrill kept me wanting to know more. I thought there was a good balance showing the perspectives between the serial killer & the police mindsets. This is the first book that I’ve read by this author. It certainly won’t be my last.
As a previous police detective, Bernard Schaffer knows what it takes to solve a crime.
Putting a “rookie” with a previous detective that had gone into the minds of rapists and murderers.
The rookie believes any case can be solve in a day until her friend goes missing.
Once I started this book at 9 PM I could nor stop ( who needs sleeps).
Can hardly wait for the next!

The Thief of All Light (A Santero and Rein Thriller Book 1)
I am blown away with the entertaining, clever, and just-complex-enough storyline of The Thief of All Light . Wow what a start to a new series. From the opening page the author sucks you in to the story and as the book progresses the twist and shocking revelations keep you on the edge of your seat. This is so, so good!
I am now absolutely hooked on this series and can’t wait for more books to come out. These books are absolutely hard to put down once you start. I finished reading this particular one in less than a day, it’s that addictive. If you haven’t read this book or any of his others, you definitely should. They are amazing !!!!!
The Thief of All Light is a fascinating read. This is not your typical police procedural thriller as the author with his own experience as a cop has given both the characters and the plot a realism you rarely find in fiction. The story follows Carrie Santero a rookie cop and aspiring detective. Carrie is a smart and well developed character with some personal baggage. Then there’s Jacob Rein a former detective disgraced and living in a self imposed hell. As the two get together along with Carrie’s mentor and police chief Bill Waylon to catch a serial killer the story becomes a race against the clock and much more thrilling. The author did a great job building the story and developing all of the characters.
The narrator in the audible version did an excellent job breathing life into the story and keeping me interested. I look forward to the next installment.
Having read The Unsettled Grave by Bernard Schaffer it was only right to read the first book in this series (although not required to understand the two separate stories). It was to get to know better the relationship between Santero and Rein. And again it did not disappoint.
Here we find out how they met and how fierce their commitment to catching the bad guys keeps them going. Again they are hunting down serial killers. This one is more personal for Santero because she knows the people abducted. But this team works well together.
And Santero gets more than she bargained for when going after this psychopath. This is definitely another page-turner and I would love to see a Book 3 after reading Book 1 and 2.
Best read I have had in awhile! I read this in a day and a half. It was gritty, real and kept me engaged from page one to the last word.
The realism hit me when describing the different types of nightmares cops have. The authors descriptions could only come from someone who has lived them.
Do yourself a favor and order this book. You won’t be disappointed.
Buckle your seat belts, your about to go on a Highly Anticipated Thrilling Ride!Looking for a Cunning Serial Killer you won’t soon forget !
Hold on to your seat and get ready for a WICKED CRAZY RIDE!!! Bernard Schaffer holds nothing back when handing over this GRITTY, RAW THRILLER!!
There were times I was literally holding my breath flipping the pages to find out what is going to happen next. Schaffer’s background in law enforcement really makes this psychological thriller come to life and gives you an up close and personal and sometimes scary feel of what it’s like to be hunting down a real psychopath. The character development is absolutely AMAZING!!! This book is a definite must read. I can’t wait to read the second book in this series, An Unsettled Grave, which I know will be flying of the shelves this July. This psychological thriller is an easy 5 STARS!!! All I can say is give me MORE Bernard Schaffer you knocked this way out the park.
KUDOS!!!!
The Thief of All Light is the first book in the Santero and Rein trilogy. It is fast paced, gritty, and authentic. You don’t have to be a cop (or a criminal, for that matter) to write good crime fiction, but it doesn’t hurt. Especially in this case. The author knows his stuff and can put it on the page. I am currently reading his previous works as I anxiously await the publication of the second in the series, An Unsettled Grave. Keep up the good work!
Carrie Santero is a rookie cop that stumbled into a murder investigation. Then her best friend goes missing. She enlists the help of veteran detective Jacob Rein.
This is the typical serial killer book. I wanted so bad to give it 5 stars, but I just couldn’t get past Carrie’s smart ass attitude. I never did really grow to like her. Jacob’s “woe is me” attitude didn’t help much either. I was only able to give it 3 stars, but I will continue with the series.
I was on the edge of my seat! I couldn’t put it down!
Amazing! I am so glad I was introduced to Schaffer! This was an exceptional read and I am looking forward to the next book!
The Thief of All Light by Bernard Schaffer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars Santero is a rookie officer who reeeeealy wants to make detective. When a serial killer pops up in true area Santero’s chief enlists his old partner, Rein, to help them. Rein is pretty damaged and broken after some events that went on while he was still a detective. Can they stop him before more people are killed?
The book moved at a pretty good pace and kept me interested the entire time. I listened to the audio version and the narrator did an excellent job.
This book was one where you started reading and you had to continue till you were done!!! The story is about a serial killer and the detectives who hunt for him before the next victim is killed. The new deceive, Callie with older detectives, Bill and Jacob, show her the ropes. It is a trill s minute but there is intrigue and mystery too. I so enjoyed this book and I plan to read Bernard’s next book in the series!!!
