#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • New enemies rise and desire burns in the latest thrilling novel of the paranormal romance series the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Sola Morte, former cat burglar and safecracker, has given up her old life on the wrong side of the law. On the run from a drug lord’s family, she is lying low far from Caldwell, keeping her nose clean and her beloved grandmother safe. Her … her beloved grandmother safe. Her heart, though, is back up north, with the only man who has ever gotten through her defenses: Assail, son of Assail, who never meant to fall in love—and certainly not with a human woman. But they have no future, and not just because she doesn’t know he is a vampire, but because he is not about to stop dealing arms to the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Fate, however, has other plans for them. When Assail falls into a coma and lingers on the verge of death, his cousins seek out Sola and beg her to give him a reason to live. The last thing she wants is a return to her past, but how can she leave him to die?
As a lethal new enemy of the vampires shows its face, and the Brotherhood needs Assail back on his feet, Sola finds herself not only a target, but a mission-critical force in a war she doesn’t understand. And when Assail’s truth comes out, will she run from the horror . . . or follow her heart into the arms of the male who loves her more than life itself?

Excellent! J.R. Ward does it again!
All right, I admit it – I was binge-reading BDB this week!
Sometimes I get a little weary of the constant POV-hopping and the slangy way the Brothers talk to each other in this series (one of the reasons I enjoy the spin-off trainee series so much). This new installment was mercifully light on both those issues. And, It is hard to beat the characters and immersive world Ward has created –they always manage to pull me in and keep me there until the final page!
At the forefront of this book are the resolutions of the Assail / Sola and Vishous / Jane storylines – both well-done – and the advancement of the Throe and Lassiter plot points.
You won’t want to miss this, and if you’re anything like me, you won’t want to wait for the next one!
Another” Black Dagger Brotherhood” hit. The characters are familiar, and even a few new ones. Still exciting warriors, male and female. Love J.R. Ward;s mind and how she puts you in this fictional world.
As usual, this author hits the mark, can’t wait for the next book of this series. I end up staying up at night–a one sitting book.
I’ve always loved Assail as a character and am glad he got his book at last.
Another incredible read from J.R. Ward! Too bad we have to wait so long for the next one.
As ALL JR Ward books I have ever read, this one didn’t disappoint. I want to live in the Brotherhoods world! Love them and all the books.
Excellent book! I recommend it to anyone
I. R. Ward’s books are well written, flow easily and there is never a boring moment. I cannot wait until her next book!
“I’m the son of the fucking deity. You want me to be average?”
What do you get when you cross Pretty Woman, Norman Reedus and JR Ward? A pretty amazing book if you ask me. There was a mention of Norman that had me smiling and then she went and quoted my favorite movie in this book. I died a few times. LOL
“I see you, he thought. And you are beautiful to me.”
I”ve been excited for Assail’s book since was introduced. He was one that caught my eye and I was craving to know more and get inside his head. Sola was a lot more then I planned on though. She was fearless and knew who she was and didn’t take crap from anyone. She was so bad ass and so perfect for him. I loved every minute of their story.
“I’ve missed you,” he blurted. “More than I’ve wanted to admit – and now that you’re here with me, I can’t figure out why I worked so fucking hard to avoid telling you that.”
Jane and Vishous. That was rough and I wasn’t expecting all of that. I am loving that we get to revisit these guys and see their relationships evolve and change but man – it hurts sometimes. I did enjoy this visit with one the originals more than some of the others. Maybe because I always loved Vishous or maybe because this catch up felt a little more real compared to the others. I’m not sure but I liked it a lot. The part that gutted me the most was Lassiter’s involvement in this. You’ll see when you read it, so full of heartbreak there.
“But sometimes that was all you could do-just pour your hope and love into your partner because they needed the support, even though it arguably wasn’t going to change or improve what was really going on.”
The new “enemy” and the new “Scribe Virgin” – I can’t wait for more of this. It’s exciting and so much win I am on the edge of my seat. Especially the replacement for the SV, I am dying to know more about that. Oh and that thing that Vishous finds out – I KNEW IT!! The build up for the next book was fantastic and had me hooked right away. Yes, this is book 16 but I am just as hooked as I was in the beginning. I hope you are reading this series and if you are not then tsk tsk. Get on it!
“Just so you know, I wish I had never treated you back at St Francis. I wish I had been off that night when you came in.”

Absolutely love all J.R.Ward’s series
J.R. Ward just never seems to miss! Once again, her vampire and non- vampire characters are always well drawn. The more you read the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and the off shoots, the more hooked you get. There is hot, hot sex, plenty of wittiness, and the same problems human couples and families have. This time the va pires face a new threat, deadlier than their arch ene ies., the Lessers There are also some tear-jerking moments, and unexpected twists. The Thief has it all. Can’t wait for the next book!
A STUNNING display of tear inducing drama, heart-in-your-throat action, and soul crashing romance, J.R. Ward won’t be defeated with her latest Black Dagger Brotherhood novel, The Thief!
In The Thief we find a new threat blooming and it leaves us readers speechless and things that were once unclear become crystal clear and it leaves us in so much awe. There is only one author that continues to surprise me again and again with her amazing ability to weave a story with twists and a love so great, it leaves one feeling honored and completely smitten! I devoured this book in a few days and FLOVED every second of it along with every feeling it brought on to me. I NEVER tire of reading these BDB novels because Miss Ward’s characters are unforgettable and the stories never cease to surprise and delight me. This is the kind of drama I come to crave and I am already anxious for the next one.
The Thief gets a BEST OF THE BEST FIVE SHOOTING STARS!
And J.R Ward has done it once again. If you haven’t read her Black Dagger Brotherhood series, start with Dark Lover and go from there. Yes, they are vampires but the kind you’d want to crawl over broken glass to get to and be accepted in their world. They’re the good guys, although they can be bad but it’s all a good bad. Ward develops her characters in such detail – she says they speak to her as she writes and I believe every word she says. Some readers do complain about certain characters but I believe they have to have their story so the whole series can progress. After all, she’s the writer and she’s one of the best! I’d give the series as a whole 1,000 stars and each book at least 10 stars. Oh, you can read The Thief as a stand alone but it’s better to start from the beginning. You really need the whole experience and it’s wonderful!
A page turner love the characters
I have read this series since the beginning and it is not getting stale. The characters are richly built and the pace is great.
Love this series!!
