Jolene Navarro is a new-to-me-author and I found this story to be both delightful and heart-warming. It’s a story that touched on so many different levels of emotion, including forgiveness and second chances. A definite must-read! I will absolutely be reading more from this author!
I just got done reading “The Texan’s Secret Daughter” by: Jolene Navarro. And I must say I completely loved it, I loved how they had such a strong faith when they knew the going got tough and har.. and I love how it was a mixed marriage and not just your normal ordinary marriage! This was my first time having a book that had a mixed marriage in it. I also loved how they were able to come together to work something out for their daughter’s sake! I also loved how she was willing to give him a second chance at getting to know their daughter and in the end they were able to finally come together and to start something new. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a strong faith.”
This is a great story dealing with serious issues! Jolene Navarro has done an amazing job of weaving a wonderful story that deals with real-life issues. I love that she takes the topic seriously and doesn’t treat it flippantly.
Jazmine and Elijah marry for love. But his family’s history of alcoholism comes knocking at their front door. When he falls off the wagon and starts drinking, she makes the heart-breaking decision to leave Unbeknownst to Elijah, Jazmine is pregnant. After years apart, Elijah discovers he’s a father. Can Jazmine and Elijah put aside their past to make a difference for their daughter? Or are there too many differences and too much hurt to work together?
I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a story that deals with real-life issues and has a great ending. I love that the author addresses the seriousness of alcoholism and encourages readers to reach out for help if they need it.
“God had given him a second chance. He might not deserve it, but he wasn’t going to waste it.”~pg. 121
I understand all too well what alcoholism can do to a family. It tears apart the very core that glues everything together. Growing up with a dad who drank and eventually found AA, I know it takes one small step at a time to overcome the mire & muck. This story especially touched me because I know what a struggle that can be for the alcoholic. When Elijah lost everything that he loved and hit rock bottom, it woke him up to the realization that he needed help. Not only from people in his life, but more importantly from God who can change him from the inside. Dedicating his life to the Lord, hard work, and wise counsel from trusted friends, he was able to take those steps to become the kind of man he should have been years ago. His ex-wife Jazmine re-entering his life and introducing their daughter Rosemarie to him rocks his world even more. He knows he has six years to make up for and prove he’s not the same man. Will she see him for what he is now, or are the hurts too big of an obstacle to overcome?
Forgiveness plays a major role in this story. Not only of oneself, but of those who have hurt us in the past. Realizing that we are no longer bound by past mistakes if we ask it of God is probably one of the hardest lessons to learn. Jazmine & Elijah have come to a crossroad and must find a way to move past it. This was an emotional story, one that has many hard things in their past to overcome. I think Rosemarie helped soften the blows of life and had a part in healing these two hearts. It was a wonderful journey to see them become a wholly complete family! I think Jolene Navarro dealt with real life issues head on with grace and showing that through God, He can heal & restore!
