It’s a very interesting and captivating read! I highly recommend it for anyone who likes Scottish history or searching for lost treasure and defunct secret orders!
I found it hard to put the book down kept me wanting more
I wasn’t very impressed with the information in this book as a source of information about the Templars and the political scene of the times. Story line was good, not great and I’m looking forward to seeing the authors future work and seeing them developing as an author.
Interesting, it is a bit slow in the beginning but then gets better.
This is a good historical mystery that captures the tone of the age. The protagonist is reasonably sympathetic and the plot is interesting and clips along. As others have noted, it bears a haunting resemblance to “The Maltese Falcon” but that does not detract from the book. I recommend it.
A knight seriously injured while fighting in the service of his Lord Douglas, who is killed in the same battle, returns home to try to find a new sponsor. Lame and 65 years old, his days as a warrior are finished. He is lured into solving a mystery by the promise of payment, only to be lied to, beaten up, suspected of murders of his friend and a stranger. He must solve the mystery to identify the real killer.
As a stand alone book it was good, seeing there are more in the series, I can see the Knight without a patron and always looking for money would get old.
Think light, noir detective in the 15th century. Interesting premise, reasonable depiction of era without a lot of the depressing facts. Good start to a series.
Loved this series. The characters are very real and relatable. Very imaginative, giving life to the people and places of a bygone era.
Interesting historical detective thriller. Writing was a bit spotty but will probably get better with the next books.
Difficult to understand; too many unexplained words supposedly from the Middle Ages. Didn’t know there was a glossary with the needed explanations until I finished the book.
Not bad, but not really memorable either. Interesting look at medieval Scotland, with a pretty decent story.
I enjoyed the mystery and the historical setting but it ended rather abruptly in the manner of a Miss Marple who-dunnit. I will read more from this author. The writing style is well-honed.
love these types of books
Really enjoyed the mystery
I had to read all the books in the series. Wonderful main character marvelous story.
Simple story with uninmaginative plot.
The old terminology was a bit of a task to get through but I found it interesting and entertaining.
Hope to read more about this character. I like the premise
Could have been more fully developed.
