Scotland, 1424: Sir Law Kintour has returned from the war in France injured, broke, and in need of a patron. In desperation, he reluctantly accepts a commission to find a nobleman’s missing wife. He enlists the aid of a fellow Scot. But his friend is murdered, and Law discovers he has been lied to. As the murders continue to mount, powerful interests come into play. When the Sheriff of Perth … considers him a convenient scapegoat, it gives Law no choice but to untangle the lies and find the killer or hang for the murders.

This book is a quick read with many authentic historical notes. The research done adds a flavor to the storytelling. Using the period appropriate Scots makes the reader feel like they are back in time and a part of the action. The tale just gets a bit too balled up in itself and the ending is a little to brusque. I did enjoy it and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Read in one sitting. It isn’t. Action packed, but held my interest.
The possible historical accuracy along with the authors ability to move the story along makes it a great read.
I love historical fiction from this time period. It’s a great story about a character who has to make the best of a war-injury and discovers he is able to solve crimes.
Great read. Loved the characters. Read thru in one evening.
This author is perhaps better known for his post-apocalyptic work (which I found interesting and somewhat innovative) but this is a solid book, though not as action-oriented as most Templar fiction.
Nice read if you enjoy historical fiction.
A fast paced, exciting historical that draws you in, delivering an excellent story!
Liked it a lot
It was thrilling all the way to the end. How people lived in circumstances such as this still baffles me
I read about half of the book. Put it aside to make a sandwich and lost all traces of it. It had just got to a very interesting part too. Wish I had a Kindle to read with again. Good writing and historical context that I find appealing
Hard to read
The plot was so corner-turning, I almost gave up reading it. It was okay, but I did not understand some of Sir Law’s reasoning. He suffered with his leg enough that I am not sure how he did some of his feats of walking. I have a bum leg, and I could not think of doing some of hikes he did.
Love this author. Know whatever he writes I am going to like.
Humorous sci-fi.
The only thing Templar about this book was the Cross. It was disappointing.
Book was very slow, had little suspense or excitement. Kept looking for more even til the end.
lots of twists and turns
A look at a bygone age with a setting in which my ancestors lived.
Storyline was not captivating enough
