Things that were good and things that were less good
I’m gonna be honest here. The book started out as a three-star-book for me. And I usually LOVE YA fantasy! But I’m not really liking the protagonist Emily. Apart from her new uncontrollable powers, for a long while I didn’t feel like I got to know her. And why isn’t she trying to understand her new powers? Why does she just accept it and hopes it will never happen again, a strange reaction IMO. I’d be more surprised and I’d be trying to find out more! Her reaction to the fire she started was strange. The way she just decides she made up the fire she saw when Maggie was taken was strange. The police’s reaction was strange. Her Mom’s reaction was strange. Emily dismisses things she sees too easily and that annoyed me. Everyone is acting strangely and it’s all just a bit too weird for me. I felt it wasn’t realistic. I don’t mean the fact she’s a witch, I mean the way people were acting and reacting.
But about halfway and the story managed to win me over, despite myself. And I started liking it, and it climbed to 4 stars. I started to be curious for what was to come. I started getting intrigued and I kept on reading.
But then, towards the end, the author let something happen that I HATED. And that something weakened the purpose of this book. It weakened the story, it weakened the main character, it annoyed the hades out of me. Why didn’t Emily act sooner? It just frustrated me. The author should NOT have let that happen. She should have let Emily try harder. Now what was the point? That means that the unsatisfactory end was 2 stars for me, so the average rating is 3.
Let me say something positive. It was well written and easy-to-read. It was a quick read. It was just the storyline that I didn’t take to, but you might. Really, it wasn’t bad, but I couldn’t handle the weirdness.
When Emily Frank gets into trouble for mysteriously setting the classroom on fire, her mother decides to take her to all the way across the country From California to safety each, Virginia. There she meets her mom’s bestie, Maggie… Who happens to know exactly what’s going on with Emily. Her body is changing and it’s not just her becoming a woman… Then she meets Reece O’Neal, the helpful, gorgeous, boy next door andn things really start “heating up”.

I have been provided with a copy of The Teen Witch: Rebirth by the author for an impartial review. This title was previously titled My Secret Magic so if you’ve read that title then you don’t have to read this one because it’s exactly the same. This is the prequel to the brand new The Teen Witch Chronicles series and I just loved getting to enter this world and meet these wonderful characters. This was just such a great introduction into this world and I completely lost myself in the story. It was just such a quick and easy read and I can’t wait to see what happens next with Emily.
I really enjoyed this book. A first author for me. Highly recommended. Look forward for next book soon.

Enjoyed reading this book. Quick but entertaining read. I will read more books by this author.
This was my first story from Laura Marie and I enjoyed it very much. Some people have complained about the typos, but they are easy to skim past and didn’t disturb the flow of the story for me. The characters are well developed and relatable even to an adult. Since the story is told from the main character, Emily, viewpoint, the adults in the story are fairly strict and uncaring about the teenager’s concerns. The author does a great job of this and has a wonderful teen voice. The story world is real and even though Safety Beach is entirely fictional, it is very believable. I would definitely recommend this book to any YA fantasy fan.

Emily is a wonderful character. A young girl that has to be uprooted from her home
because she learns she is a witch. The plot is really good. A wonderful book.
This was fun it was kinda hard to wrap my head around at first, but then kept going and things came together. I am sure I will read some more of the series.

Emily is the average teen with something a little more to her. What I mean by average teen is they (even adults) want to be accepted and not ostracized. They want to have at least one friend to share their lives with in order to avoid loneliness and of course she wants to have fun. This book takes you on a journey as Emily discovers who she is as she is going through her growing pains. It is an easy read that will keep your attention. Enjoy!

An easy read. Yes, there is sadness in part of the book, but sorrow is a part of life and the book is about a young girl, an unusual young teen at that, in the process of growing up. Like all teenagers she has to learn what her skills are and what to do with them. It just so happens part of those skills for her is magic.
And she needs to find out how to fit in. She finds out it’s not always easy when people we think are friends really aren’t.

Fun life teen Witch cozy, while a new Witch has to learn to control her craft
Emily is dangerous to be around; fires start and people can get hurt! This is a fun story that follows Emily and her mother as they move to a new town and find some really eccentric characters. We follow Emily as she finds out about herself and what her friends are and mean to her. A very fun story that is too short. There are going to be lots of new things to learn about Safety Beach and its inhabitants. Many stories that can come from this great start.
What a wonderful start to a new series! I liked this book much more than I expected to, not having been a young adult for decades. It is skillfully written and fast paced. It was an enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to future installments. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
Emily is a witch and doesn’t know it. When she loses control, fire shoots out of her hands. It’s kind of inconvenient when it catches your school on fire. Emily’s mom moves them from California to Safety Beach for a new start. Emily makes some friends but still doesn’t understand her life. She goes to the beach and practices controlling her fire. All the while worrying about if she loses control again, she will also lose her friends.
This is a novella which begins a new series. It’s a great young adult fantasy.
This is an easy read and fast paced. The story and characters are great. I enjoyed all the twists and secrets. I really enjoyed this book and it is one series I will continue to read and even get my teenage daughter to read too. Great book.

That was a fun and entertaining read! I loved how Emily had no idea of what was going on around her or eve with her! She was dealing with some seriously strange things and never once did it cross her mind what it really was! I look forward to reading the next book!
Emily has an ability, and because of it, she had to leave her old school in California and move to her moms old town of Safety Beach. People here are different so she should fit right in. But, people are disappearing and no one seems to care, except Emily.
I totally recommend this book. It’ll keep you interested the whole way through.

A great story line for a new series. Emily is such a great character. She is going through a total identity crisis, only she is not just a teen feeling out of place; she is a witch and does not know it. Cannot wait to read more of this series. You will be enticed by the strangeness of Safety Beach and its citizens. The plot pulls you in and keeps your interest until the end. The only problem is I did not want the book to end and want to read more about this town and its inhabitants.
