In fact, rumor has it—the disgraced ex-manager of the wrestling team left campus with his tail between his legs. But Rex is back, nowhere near the douchebag he used to be—and ready to prove everyone wrong. The leopard has changed his spots—and he’s about to become my dating coach.… to become my dating coach.

Can I say I love Rex Gunderson so much even if he did come off as a jerk in previous books? He is back and is out to find redemption for the mistakes he’s made in his past so while he is back he is still looking for some fun. I loved that we got to see a sweeter side when he is with Annabel’s daughter and that he is a good person deep down. Hannah is surrounded by people in love and she is jealous and wants the same thing but she comes off as a little crazy at times so she has crap luck in the dating department. While I liked these two together Hannah’s quirks did come off all judgements and she would say things about Rex without thinking so it took me a little bit to like her or even understand her but when Rex finally brings the best out of her and they are perfect together. It is a novella so it’s a quick read but man Rex makes this so much and I wish we got more of him.
You’ve met them both in previous books. Her in The Lying Hours (she’s best friends with the heroine.) Him in The Coaching Hours (he is a side character with a little more screen time than most.) It was good to see him redeem himself. SPOILER ALERT: He was a major douchebag in that other book. This is a novella so it is shorter in length and the storyline moves faster than your typical novel. If you’ve read The Lying Hours, you get a sneak peek at the beginning of this book, so you might have some knowledge about what’s going to happen. She is a bit of a wild card or a loose cannon. She has no fear in putting someone in their place. Most men are scared of her… probably the reason she can’t seem to find a man worth keeping. She is also secretly insecure. His options have been limited since the scandal that took place in the previous book. He wants to settle down, but he is only back in town for a year or so. He also is just the man to take her on and put her in her place. This one is somewhat open-ended. While it ends on a good note, it ends rather abruptly, with no hint into the future. There is humor and a lot of sexual content (both the act of and talk of,) deeming it suitable for mature readers. It alternates between POVs.
Awe!! I couldn’t wait to read this novella after I read Abe and Skylar’s story. Rex was so adorkable and Hannah was so awkward. They were perfect together!
I’m a big fan of the How to Date a Douchebag series, so of course, I had to read this one. You don’t need to read the previous one to enjoy this one but if you have you’ll know a bit about Rex. Rex is not the most likable charterer but I was glad he got a story because in it we get to see the real Rex. Hannah is blunt and funny. She kind of doesn’t hold much back. Rex is going to be her dating coach and help her learn to talk to guys. These two are cute and funny together. It’s a short quick read but I so would have loved to have read more of their story.
Good, not great
I love this series, but this novella was just a “like” for me. I didn’t understand Hannah at all, but I adored Rex. The sex scene was the same combination of like/love for me. Why do authors write sex scenes meant to be steamy and use sexless words like “butt” and “breast”? I really hope for a full length installment soon, though. I remain a loyal Douchebag series groupie.
This was part of a anthology previously and now a novella on it’s own. To be honest I wasn’t a fan of Rex at all from the start. I wasn’t sure he could be redeemed for me. However he grew in The Coaching Hours that intrigued me somewhat. I’m always good with growth and I saw the change in him.
So Hannah and Rex matched on a dating app. They are pretty much opposites attract at first. Hannah needed help in the dating scene and Rex will tutor her. It was cute and banter-rific. I enjoyed that part when they were chatting. It also evolved into more when they met up which was also good.
I think it was nice to see this side of Rex. He could be less snarky and sweet to Hannah’s awkward and funny. This maybe short of a novella but packs a satisfying HEA and plot and maybe could do with a bit more. Though many references to other old characters from the series but it can work as a standalone.
If you’re a fan of this series, then like me, I’m freaking excited and curious to know Rex’s story would be like. Let me just say, this novella had me wishing for MORE!
Rex and Hannah, in my opinion, are the perfect fit! The sassy, albeit shy girl and the equally snarky douchebag but sweet fun-cle of an ex-wrestling team coach. Together, you have a quick, funny, romantic comedy read to gobble up. Like I said, I wish this wasn’t a novella because these two crack me up so bad, LOL! I love and live for their witty banters. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and can’t wait to read more from these douchebags.
I’m a huge fan of Sara Ney’s How to Date a Douchebag series. Rex Gunderson a cocky, sarcastic, snarky and egotistical douchebag has appeared throughout the previous title. I couldn’t wait to see him meet his match. We met the heroine of this title Hannah in The Lying Hours and she’s perfect for Rex, kind of awkward, yet sassy with a tendency to say exactly what she thinks.
The Teaching Hours is a quick and charming novella, full of Sara’s signature brand of humor. With witty, playful, and sarcastic banter and dialogue that is sure to give you a laugh.
The How to Date a Douchebag series by Sara Ney is one of my top favorite series ever. I have loved every single story and their characters so much. So, when I heard Sara would be giving us another story in a novella, I was so excited. Even more so, once I learned the character she decided to focus on! This can be read as a standalone, however, for those of us that have read the series, getting Rex Gunderson’s story is such a treat.
Rex is no different than who we met before, but at the same time, very different than how we have seen him in past books. I loved him with Hannah. What started out as Rex helping out a girl, turns to so much more. For a quick read, this one held all the things I love from Sara’s books, the slow burn, amazing and witty banter and characters who seem perfect for each other even if they did not at first! Such a great addition to the series!

Happy reading!
I loved this story about Hannah and Rex, what started as a right swipe on an app and dating lessons for Hannah, evolved in so much more.
This book was funny but also romantic and sexy. The conversations between both of them are hilarious to say the least and i truly loved them.
This page turner is a must read for Sara Ney lovers, it is a quick read with a HEA for both the characters. But will the happy ending be with each other you will have to read for yourself.
I am surely glad I read it!!!! Thank you Sara for another great book in these “How to date a douchebag” series
This standalone novella was previously published in the Team Player 2: A Sports Anthology. This is Rex & Hannah’s story.
Throughout the How to Date a Douchebag series, Rex Gunderson has been the guy you can easily not like!. But he definitely earns redemption points in The Coaching Hours. We meet Hannah in The Lying Hours (she is Skylar’s roommate). Hannah has a tough time relating to men. She is pretty abrasive, blunt, says what and how she thinks and it’s not usually received well. Rex is back to coach the college wrestling team and signs up for the college dating app. This is where he meets Hannah. Hannah needs help talking to men and who better to help but Rex, lol! Their conversations go anywhere from intense to funny to bickering back and forth and that only causes the heat to ignite between them.
This is a funny and steamy quick read that eludes to much more for these two. Hopefully Sara will add updates on any continuations of the series. Definitely an easy 1 click!!!

FIVE DOUCHE STARS for Hannah and Rex !!!
I LOVE THIS NOVELLA SO MUCH!!!
Okay, let’s go from the beginning…
I absolutely love Sara Ney’s writing style because her books always make me laugh a lot and in the “How to Date a Douchebag” series there are a lot of useful quotes that I became using in my real life.
Why?
Because they are so true and hilarious!
“The Teaching Hours” is a romantic comedy novella with fake date trope.
Hannah is a female character who with her need to learn how to date guys without saying them awkward things on the first date or say them in their face that they are douchebags, reminded me of myself.
Rex is a total sweetheart in this novella and I love his behavior toward Hannah because he was honest trough the whole novella which made Hannah change her opinion about him.
Hannah and Rex’s relationship is sweet and funny.
I love their chemistry and how good they look together.
If you need a book which will make you laugh and you looking for a quick read then this novella is definitely for you!
Highly recommended!!!
If you’ve read the douchebag series you know who Rex Gunderson is…he was portrayed as someone who speaks first not really thinking through what cames out of his mouth. And when Sara announced that she is writing his story I was over the moon because I just knew there was more to him which we saw in How to date; The coaching hours.
What I loved the most was that she paired him up with one quirky, funny, no-filter kinda girl… basically female version of him.
I’ve read this back in September with Team player anthology 2 and I loved it then and I absolutely loved it now. Rex for the win!!! .

Ive been waiting for Rexs book forever! I WANT MORE!!! Loved this novella! I got hooked in right away. It is a perfect one sit read! It was so funny and so sweet! It left me wanting more more more!!!
Arc received for an honest review
I really enjoyed finally getting into Rex Gunderson’s head.
This is a novella based in the HTDAD series, a series I have read and loved.
In the initial series Rex was living up to the DBag name for sure. Especially given the events of The Coaching Hours. I needed more from Rex.
In this short novella, I got exactly that. Rex has matured a lot since those days. He knows what he did back then was a bad move. So when he’s matched on the dating app with Hannah who’s roommate we meet in The Lying hours, he finds out she needs his help and decides to try and teach her how to date.
This was cute. It wasn’t nearly long enough, but I got exactly what I needed from it for sure.
I kinda don’t want to say goodbye to this series.
**Thank you to the author and Wildfire Marketing solutions for the advance copy of this and for allowing me to leave an unbiased review**
FREAKING REX GUNDERSON! I was waiting, oh so impatiently, for him to get his own girl. We saw him change in The Coaching Hours, and I wanted him to find someone who’d appreciate him. Enter Hannah. She’s the perfect match for him. I loved their banter! (Although Sara is the banter queen so it’s not too shocking) And when they finally meet….it was just perfection!
This was such a great novella for a favorite character!!
Sara Ney gives long time secondary character Rex Gunderson, in her How to Date a Douchebag series, his own chance at love in the novella The Teaching Hours.
There are no ambivalent feelings about Rex Gunderson, he clearly defines himself by his actions. A villain, a hero and everything in between by the time he got his own book Rex had been redeemed but the stigma of his past actions hung over him. Luckily through a chance encounter he met his match in the misunderstood and often inappropriate Hannah Peterson, also a secondary character in this series. In their own words the interactions between this couple were “cute” and “adorable” with a healthy amount of side snark. Despite this pair’s less than stellar past and uninhibited commentary they really were kind and thoughtful of each other, recognizing a fellow insecure good person behind all the banter. With a nice simmer and lots of laughs Rex and Hannah were well matched.
This is such a fun series and Sara Ney has done a great job of keeping it fresh and consistent as she grows it with a nice mix of silly and real. Readers can feel her connection to her characters even as they experience her portrayals angst and draw to each other. A quick read The Teaching Hours was an entertaining addition to this series!
*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own. *
*While this work can be read as a stand alone, for an enhanced overall reading experience reading the previous books in the How to Date a Douchebag series is suggested.”
If you are a fan of the How to Date a Douchebag Series you will be excited to know that we finally get Rex Gunderson’s 4.5 stars story! This was such a cute read! We have met Rex many times in the prior books and the trouble he has gotten himself into. He is known as a jerk and dating him tends to be nonexistent with the ladies. He is back at the University and he has changed for the better and ready to prove everyone that he is different.
He gets on the LoveU app and ends up talking to Hannah Peterson (Skylars Roommate from The Lying Hours (How to Date a Douchebag, #5)). Their text messages and their back and forth banter had me constantly LOL and giddy. It was cute and flirty. Off the bat he is blunt and straight forward. She is shy and tends to be at a lost for words when it comes to talking to the opposite sex and fumbles when it comes to saying what she means. This in turns comes up with the plan to teach Hannah how to talk guys.
What a great addition to the series! Although it was a quick read it was filled with tons of laughter, swooning, and a new relationship that will have you wishing and hoping for more in this series.
Can a douchebag really become a nice guy??
A short but very dorky and sweet story about Hannah Peterson, a young woman looking for the ‘right’ guy. She thinks she knows what she wants, until she comes across Rex Gunnerson on her university’s dating app. Rex seems like a nice guy. He’s quiet and nerdy, the complete opposite of what she is searching for. But, then she asks for his help learning how to date.
Rex is more than just a nerdy guy.
But can he be ‘the guy’?
The Teaching Hours will tell.
Funny and cute little novella with two snarky characters who don’t think they’re each other’s type, but end up being perfect together.
“So why do I want it from Rex so bad? Because it will feel good. It will feel right. I know it with everything I have.”
Hannah Peterson is ready for love but she’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Browsing the on-campus LoveU app, she comes across Rex Gunderson, who appears to be a male equivalent of her in character. In looks, he’s far from what she normally goes for.
Rex is back on campus for a few semesters and looking for a casual hook-up. When he connects with Hannah, there’s just something about the snarky, filterless girl that perks his interest and, suddenly, he’s offering her lessons in how to date. She is beautiful and smart but she seems like too much hard work. However, as the evening wears on, they start seeing each other with new eyes.
“You’re the sweetest guy I’ve ever met.”
“Me? Sweet? I’ve been called a million things, but never sweet.”
This story was fun and hilarious. Their exchanges made me laugh out loud. Rex has never been a favourite character of mine – he’s arrogant and cocky and never seemed to be anything to write home about, however, in this novel, the author has managed to portray him as a changed man. He’s sweet and pretty darn adorkable, and quite sexy, too! Hannah is a hoot. I love her crassness and directness. She’s constantly planting her foot in her mouth. LOL. A great story!
