In Victorian era London, educated beauty Alexandria Ellsworth hastily accepts a marriage proposal after a broken engagement leaves her reputation in question. She knows little of her intended husband Edmund Bainbridge but is assured that he will offer her a comfortable, secure life.
When Edmund spots the green-eyed beauty at a posh London tea room he decides she and no other will be his wife and … his wife and he whisks her away to his tea plantation in Ceylon. However once in Ceylon, Edmund loses interest in his new bride and becomes distant and cold neglecting her for long periods of time.
Meanwhile Alex falls in love with the beauty of Ceylon and its people. One evening she stumbles into a stranger in the Ceylon forest and is shocked to discover that the handsome stranger who holds her in his arms is the overseer of the plantation, Julian Bainbridge; her husband’s half brother.
She is drawn to the dark, attractive Julian as her husband continues to neglect her. As Julian and Alexandria fight their feelings for each other Edmund begins to spiral out of control hiding a dark, ugly secret that threatens to destroy everyone.

Bodice ripper. Thought it would be better developed.
I thought this book was well written but Oh! so improbable. Started out well enough, Ending no surprise, but mid-way character actions seemed too far-fetched.
Unfortunately it did not hold my interest and I started jumping around on the story. Interesting plot maybe just a little too slow getting there. but I have even jumped around on Leon Iris.
This book had nothing to do with a tea plantation. It only described sexual deviants and erotica. Be careful with this title.
Could have been a great book. Lots of intrigue, but waaay too much gratuitous sex
It is easy to read, but not because it is well written. It is historical only in the sense of the period in which it is set, but one learns very little from it. It seems primarily written for the sex scenes. Too bad, it had possibilities for a good book, but is not.
Just tedious.
Interesting story. Good characters. Finished it but easy to put down
Do not like at all!Full of scenes of jewels and dinners and balls and parties and what ladies are wearing! So boring!I want something entertaining some surival! This book is far from the reality of life!
I enjoyed it, and especially liked the details about tea harvesting in Sri Lanka. A unique location for the story / time period. I highly recommend it!
Great book
Not a clean romance. Couldn’t read it.
I like a book where I care whether or not good things happen to people. This was an interesting but farfetched tale and none of the protagonists nor antagonists were very likeable. Good descriptions of the country.
Good story
Too much sex
Started out very good but sadly turned into a twisted sexual read. Ended on a better note than the middle of the book took you.
