The iconic, “extraordinary” (The Washington Post) collaboration between #1 bestselling author Stephen King and Peter Straub–an epic thriller about a young boy’s quest to save his mother’s life. This is Hannah and my all time favorite book. This story follows Jack Sawyer, a twelve year old who sets out across America to find a talisman that will save his mother, who is dying of cancer. Jack flips between a world known as the Territories and the United States. The world building is incredible in this fantasy that will make you laugh, cry, and shout for joy.
I read this book a while ago. This is a book that I have to read quite often. With one of the authors being Steven King, it is not really that surprising. With his disturbing show of awful human and animal characteristics the story just gets darker and darker. It goes from our world to fantasy and back again. I lent this book to a friend , when I was in medical school. She read it in one 24 hour period. She was so hooked on the story she took school off the next day to continually reading the book. She took the following day as well, to crash. I would actually give this book 10 out of 5 stars. It really impressed me!
All I can say is, if you like either of the authors, you will love this book because it brings out the best of both. A very haunting and disturbing tale.
If you liked The Black Tower you will enjoy this book!!
My favorite author This book read like a magical fantasy roller coaster ride!! I was absorbed in how the story kept changing from one reality to the next. It kept getting better and better. This book would make a fantastic movie!!! I hope Mr. King will consider it.
awesome book. Both writers are great reads and this was a page turner with no unmet expectations.
One of my favorite Steven King books. Great story, great characters, great from beginning to the end. No spoilers here. Just read this book.
I read somewhere once that an author is an artist who paints with words. If that is true, this is an amazing painting. The characters and locations were painted in my mind years ago. When i picked up the sequel I read the first page knowing I would have to start at the beginning. I was surprised to find the characters waiting for me. Only true artists have that gift. Stephen King and Peter Straub are masters.
For me , this book is a classic. The combination of these two authors combine into one of the most original contemporary fairytales ever created.
This book was just about one of the most amazing I have read. I read it years ago, but it resonates with me. The characters are so well established, their relationships are vital and I couldn’t put it down. When these two writing geniuses collaborate, they wrote a one-of-a-kind purely awesome book.
There’s something about how Stephen King writes characters, that they stay with you long after you’ve read his books.
This is one of my favorite Stephen King books. I love his imagination!!!
The authors are a great team–the book is suspenseful and entertaining.
Must read
This is a large book – 921 pages. I first read it when I was a teenager. I started the book on a Saturday morning, and didn’t put it down until I finished in the wee hours of the next morning. That is the first and last time I have ever read a book in this way. I literally could not put it down.
Since then I have re-read it multiple times and it is just as good each time.
One of the best books ever!
good read but not up the the master of horror’s usual standards
