Loved this tale of magical stories from J.K. Rowling!! Having each one of the tales read by one of the actors from the Harry Potter movies just improved the audio. Jude Law doing the footnotes for Professor Dumbledore was the highlight for me. It truly felt like we were getting a small piece of who Dumbledore was behind the Headmaster of Hogwarts. The tale of the Three Brothers was still my favorite because in this we get the story behind The Deathly Hallows.
In this charming little book, we get to see the stories mentioned in The Deathly Hallows come to life. With five delightful stories of varying characters, we learn that magic creates as many problems as it solves, which is a great lesson to Muggles everywhere who are reading these stories for the first time. In these wild tales of magic, we learn simple lessons designed for children, but they are as timeless as the muggle fairytales like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and other stories that we grew up with.
This book is fun to read, and easy to get through in less than an hour. The stories made me laugh, and the commentary from Albus Dumbledore is like a peek into his mind, where we get to meet with the Professor once again and probe his thoughts on something that many wizards would consider to be for children. The familiar magic from the series is there, along with the charm of a children’s book.
If you were ever curious about the stories that Ron mentioned in The Deathly Hallows, this is your opportunity to read them. The stories are fun, and they will charm your children of any age. Fans of the Harry Potter series will not regret reading this set of stories that allow us, once again, to delve into the Wizarding World.
The Audible version really made this book come to life. I really enjoyed the voice performances. I liked Dumbledore explanations and well worth the time. Very enjoyable.
I am giving this a combined rating of 4.2 stars for the 5 (five) stories contained in this book. I enjoyed them all it is just that I enjoyed some more than others. They are all short, as fables or fairy tales tend to be with a moral to be taught. They were written as a collection for young wizards. The characters were all interesting and the message was perfect for young wizards. There was also an explanation from Dumbledore on the relevance and reasoning behind each tale.
All of the stories were pretty mild with elements of humor and messages about prejudice or how the pursuit of magical beings can be detrimental to those pursuing them. There was only one story that had a dark premise and reminded me of the ‘ Picture of Dorian Grey’ and was more of a cautionary tale.
Each story is read by a different person with another individual reading the appendix by Dumbledor after each. The cast includes Warwick Davis, Noma Dumezweni, Jason Issacs, Jude Law, Evanna Lynch, Sally Mortemore, and Bonnie Wright. I would say this is definitely something that a fan of Harry Potter would enjoy and could also be enjoyed by anyone who likes fables.
3.5 stars. This was such a fun read! I listened to it on Audible, as it has just been released as an audiobook. It’s short (about 1.5 hours) and is narrated by actors from the Harry Potter movies and the Cursed Child play, so I had to give it a listen! Luna Lovegood, Ginny Weasley, Professor Flitwick and Lucius Malloy are a few of the voices you’ll recognize in the audiobook. As a big Harry Potter fan, I couldn’t resist downloading it on Audible! It was great to hear all of the stories from Beedle the Bard, as the book plays such a huge role in the Harry Potter series. It was fun to hear the all of the same stories wizard children, like the Weasleys, would have heard growing up. I definitely recommend this book, specifically the audiobook, for any fans of Harry Potter! If you aren’t a Harry Potter fan, however, it most likely isn’t the book for you.
Audiobook rating: 5 stars! It was definitely one of the best audiobook productions I’ve listened to.
Five fairy tales from the world of Harry Potter with commentary from Albus Dumbledore.
Each tale has a moral and great imagery. The commentary – and footnotes – make a great addition to a book belonging in the Hogwarts library.
You need to be familiar with the world JK Rowling had created for Harry and his friends for this book to make any sense – especially the commentary and footnotes following each tale – but the fairy tales can be read even if you’re unfamiliar with Harry Potter.
The tales are rather dark, in the tradition of Grimm fairy tales, and are quite enjoyable. For middle-grade audiences and older.
Creativite and expands
the world of Harry Potter
Delightful but way too short for a visit with the wizarding world of Harry Potter. I enjoyed Dumbledore’s commentary and ‘his’ sly wit. An excellent collection of ‘fairy tales’ that can clearly apply to ‘muggles’ too.
Great addition to my harry potter series
This book contains five short stories that you can read with kids, it’s stories were really good and entertaining, I recommend this book.
I enjoyed this collection of wizard fairy tales, although it really could have been longer.
Awesome
