A Wall Street Journal bestseller.
In bestselling author T L Swan’s second hot installment to the Miles High Club series, he’s sexy, rich, and her mortal enemy. Hate never felt so good.
I first met Tristan Miles at a meeting where he was trying to take over my late husband’s company.
He was powerful, arrogant, and infuriatingly gorgeous, and I hated him with every cell in my body. In the shock … him with every cell in my body. In the shock of the century, he called me three days later and asked me on a date.
I would rather die than date a man like him—though I do have to admit it was good for the ego. Turning him down was the highlight of my year.
Six months later, he was the guest speaker at a conference I attended in France.
Still arrogant and infuriating—but this time, surprisingly charming and witty.
When he looked at me, I got butterflies.
But I can’t go there.
He’s just a player in a hot suit, and I’m just a widow with three unruly sons.
I just need this conference to be over.
Because everybody knows that Tristan Miles always gets what he wants…and what he wants is me.

I get the hype over Tristan Miles. This guy is definitely book boyfriend material. He is powerful, hot and has a good heart.
Tristan is the head of acquisitions for Miles Media which means he buys companies in trouble, dismantles them and flips them for profit. What he presents to the world is this whole cold, ruthless but charming business man persona. He is a playboy billionaire.
Claire Anderson is a widow, mother of 3, 4 years older than Tristan. Her company is in trouble and she meets Tristan when he makes her an offer for her company. Needless to say she tells him to fuck himself.
They meet again a few months later at a conference and have a fling.
When they come back to NY, Claire wants nothing to do with him but Tristan won’t have it. He wants her and he will have her.
Claire’s complicated life is a far cry from what he is used to. He is usually into fashionable blonde influencers/models, younger than him, with no constraints.
Claire has 3 boys (17, 13 and 9) heartbroken over their dad passing in a car accident 5 years back, a cat that pees everywhere and a crazy dog. Tristan’s first interaction with the boys is so hilarious and he ends us running for the hills. But then he’s back and the way he goes about bonding with the kids is amazing and swoon worthy.
85% of this book is filled with witty banter, laugh out loud moments, swoony moments and hot sexy scenes. I thought for sure that this would be my favorite book of the year. But then came the last 15% and it ruined it for me. The ending comes with unnecessary drama and unrealistic scenes where 2 kids under 14 manage to successfully travel unsupervised to a foreign country. But it is worth the read in order to meet Tristan!
Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry between Tristan and Claire was off the charts. Claire is a mother of 3 boys that has experienced tragedy and heartbreak. A few years have passed since she lost her husband and their business is now struggling. Tristan Miles steps in to help, but his cutthroat business tactics do not impress Claire. She leaves a lasting impression on him and chance encounters leave them both wanting more. As the relationship progresses, Claire’s suffering surfaces and her inner mama bear rears it’s head. Both Tristan and Claire are in unfamiliar territory and I love how every situation was handled. I laughed, swooned and had a broken heart right with them. Very well done!
So, I finished The Stopover and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this gem. It was very similar to the first book, but so different at the same time. I love the wit of this author. I was laying in bed reading and the whole bed was shaking as I laughed into the early hours of the morning. Tick Tock. It’s become my new favorite line. I may start using it in everyday life. You know something bad is happening when you hear that phrase. But this book also had really sweet moments, but not too cheesy either. I welled up with tears and wanted to scream at Claire for not realizing how amazing Tristan was. I love the relationship that was built between Tristan and the boys. It all flowed really well and just gave me all the feels. I dreaded putting this book down last night, but I could feel the headache coming on at about twelve o’clock and knew that I just couldn’t stay up all night to finish. Plus, I’m sure my husband would have eventually gotten mad about me shaking the bed with laughter the whole night. So, I grabbed my coffee and didn’t put it down all morning. Now, I’m wondering what the hell I’m going to read that could possibly fulfill me the way this story did. I can’t wait for the next book! Hurry up T.L. Swan!
One of my most fav reads for 2021!
Just finished my second book by TL Swan… I LOVED The Takeover just as much as the first book in this series.
Y’all I am loving these dirty talking, angsty men!!! Sooo much angst, heat and funny ass shit in these books..Yes I sound like a broken record..but it’s the truth!!
I am in LOVE!!
Thank you for writing TL Swan..I’m so happy I found you!!!
Whew! Not only was this book freaking HILARIOUS! But it pulled out all the sentimental tears! Holy cripes did my eyes water! I honestly don’t think I can even begin to go into all the things I loved about this story! But I can honestly say that it is the first time I wanted to bitch slap a heroine in a LONG time! The boys totally had my heart! I knew that I was going to LOVE Tristan’s story! I knew he was going to break me! And I swooned all over the place!
Audiobook Review
This book was an amazing surprise for me… Specially because I didn’t liked the first one, and usually, this would be enough to not continue with a series.
I’m glad that I followed my friends advice and took my chances with The Takeover, because it’s Miles away from the first one! (Yep… I did that )
Tristan was already an amazing character in his, not so incredible, brother’s book… so I wasn’t surprised when I started to fall in love with him! He’s so far, the best Miles brother, and even if I’m curious about Elliott, I don’t think any of them can take him from my top list. He’s caring, passionate, honest, loyal and incredible in all his hotness!
I was surprised to see that I liked Claire too!
I know… Chocking!
She was a widow for 5 years and I could really see her struggles with moving on with her life, after losing her husband/partner/best friend… It’s not an easy thing to do, and she was doing her best for their three boys.
I love books with kids… Not those unrealistic 5 years old, that smart talk about everything and knows it all… Nope!
The real ones… Like Claire’s boys!
I looooved her boys (9, 13 and 18 years old)
I loved how Tristan was scared after their first terrible encounter.
I loved how each one of them were different and have had their own personality and issues.
I loved how protective of her they were.
And I loved the most how Tristan connected with each one of them, in their own time and in their own way.
This book was really well build and well written around a Man wanting a relationship with a Woman with kids and life baggage!
It was amazing and I highly recommend it!
About the Audiobook Narration…
CJ Bloom and Sebastian York can do no wrong! They definitely made me tear up a little, when I know that I wouldn’t if I was just reading the book!
5 Narration for sure!
What an emotional growth story.
This romance follows Tristan Miles (previously introduced to us in The Stopover), meeting his person.
I adored Tristan in the previous story. You could tell straight away he was kind-hearted and always wanted what was best for the people he loved.
Fast forward to Claire.
Claire is a 38 year old widow with 3x boys who owns Anderson Media. She first meets Tristan when he offers Miles Media to buy her company that is currently suffering financial difficulty. Only, she judges Tristan before she has even met him. She is rude, ignorant and automatically hates Tristan for no reason – other than the fact he’s rich and successful.
Claire then decides to go to a well-being conference in France – where unknowingly, Tristan is a lecturer is. This is where she finally actually gets to know Tristan before judging and they end up having a romantic weekend away.
Once they return home, Claire ends it because of her children. She thinks Tristan deserves more than to be a dad to 3x boys that are not his and pushes him away. That is until Tristan gets to know her 3x boys and connects with them all. However, Claire starts to feel guilty that Tristan is taking over her dead husbands role and pushes Tristan away once again, much to the dismay of her boys who now all adore Tristan and want him in their life.
This story is a tear jerker. I did get emotional. It truly shows the grief of a wife, losing his husband. And feeling guilty for moving on with her life, including falling in love with someone else.
I did get angry at Claire. She did frustrate me. But I also couldn’t connect to her character as I didn’t understand how she could be feeling.
Overall, 4.5 Stars.
This is truly a great read. Funny at times, poignant at others, this story grabs you from the beginning and doesn’t let go, just like Tristan. I highly recommend this novel.
I waited to read this one because I didn’t fancy a single mum story, but I wish I hadn’t. It’s another TL Swan gem. I think this one may be the funniest she’s written. Tristan is genuinely hilarious, it’s filled with proper laugh out loud moments while navigating the complications of falling in love with someone who already has a family. It’s perfect.
I love this series. I have laughed and cried! So sweet, poignant, tender… just great!
T L Swan hits it out the park time and time again. This book hit me right in the feels. So well written. Funny and relatable.
Tristan is an expert at taking over companies. Claire is a widow with three teenage sons and a company that is in trouble. She meets Tristan at a meeting for her company that he wants to takeover. She is surprised when Tristan calls her asking for a date after she refuses his offer for her company. She turns down the date too but it’s not the last time she will meet Tristan. Six months later she runs into Tristan and the two end up together. A surprise of a storyline but a good read.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
I really enjoyed the glimpses of Tristan’s character in the first book of the series, The Stopover. Tristan piqued my interest and I was so glad to finally read his story. We got to see the type of women that he usually dated in that story and I was happy to see that the heroine in his story, Claire, was more real. From the start, they had an instant connection even though Tristan was trying to take over her late husband’s company. TL Swan used this as a wonderful starting point to their relationship. To go from this initial adversarial tension and then flipping it to sexual tension when they next meet again at a conference was perfect. It was palpable when that sexual connection just would not go away when they returned to reality, to work, and to their families. I’ll stop there but I promise you you’re going to love reading how they make it all work out. So many feels and LOL moments in this story. I’m looking forward to reading more about the other brothers and also to see if there’s more of a backstory with Gabriel Ferrera and the Miles Family. Can’t wait!
I loved this story. Claire & Tristan appeared so different at the start of the book. Little did I know that they had so much in common! This book really delivered with the emotion. And by the time the book was done, I was sad & had a hard time letting them go
Love this one. So much, in fact, that I was able to overlook the few Britishisms that she snuck in. There weren’t as many in this book as there were in Our Way, so it wasn’t nearly as difficult to see these characters as American.
This book is everything I love about a T.L. Swan book, it is funny, sweet, emotional, and the perfect amount of angst and sex.
What a marvellous book, full of funny and emotional scenes.
Claire is a widow with three sons, Fletcher(17), Harrison(13) and Patrick(9). She is also the CEO of her late husband’s company, Anderson Media and a businessman, Tristan, offers to buy her company. Claire is furious at him for this and even more when he later asks her for a date.
They meet again a few months later on a conference, during which they get close to each other and give into their desire. Claire thought it would be only one time adventure, but when Tristan asks her to go with her to Paris, she can’t say no to him.
They have their weekend of pleasure, but it ends soon and they come back to reality. Claire knows, Tristan can’t be with her because she has too much baggage and knows that Tristan being 4 years younger than her, wants to have his own family, that she’s not able to give.
What doesn’t know is that Tristan will do anything to be with her, even after his first, quite painful encounter with her sons.
I loved the book with my whole heart. It was so funny, Tristan’s moments with Claire’s sons were the best. It was for me the best mixture of comedy and emotional twists that really made the book outstanding.
The Takeover is the first book that I’ve read by this author, and I enjoyed it. I especially loved the “tick tock” moments between Tristan and Claire’s son Harry. Their interactions were so entertaining! I look forward to reading more T.L. Swan books.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy from NetGalley.
5/5
It’s official this book owns me. Normally I’m not a big fan of the widow single mom trope but let’s be honest is there anything T.L. Swan can’t do? In the takeover we follow Tristen and Claire. Both of them have their own company. One of them is struggling and that’s the reason for their first meeting.
Claire is a widow with 3 boys. Tristen is a player. But oh God.. these two are perfect for each other.
I adored this story more than anything (and the fact that we saw a little Spencer Jones didn’t hurt)
As I said before I normally don’t read the widow single mom trope but this was EVERYTHING. The way you see Tristen care for not just Claire but her boys is going to make your heart melt. Both of them did things at some point I didn’t agree on but to be honest.. I could see why they did what they did…
Tristen Miles is (after Spencer Jones) the best book hero I have seen in a long time. And not (just) because of how he treats the heroine but because of what he wants for the people around him. From the moment he opens up his heart to Claire’s family he gives it his all to everybody in that family.
I could go on and on about the takeover but it was definitely worth reading, this book is going to be added to my ‘can always re-read list’
receive ARC exchanged for an honest review
This book is funny, and sweet and all the things a good romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
