Hemdeep Singh knows exactly what he wants. With his intelligence and determination, he has what it takes to build his own legacy away from Bharat, Inc. and the empire his father created. But when his brother calls him home, Hem puts his dreams on hold once again to help save the company he walked away from. That’s when he encounters the devastating Mina Kohli in the Bharat boardroom, and he … realizes he’s in for more than he had bargained.
Mina will do whatever it takes to recover control of her mother’s law firm, even if it means agreeing to an arranged marriage. Her newest case assignment is to assist Bharat in the midst of a potential takeover. It could be the key to finally achieving her goal while preventing her marriage to a man she doesn’t love—as long as her explosive attraction to Hem doesn’t get in the way.
As Mina and Hem work to save Bharat, they not only uncover secrets that could threaten the existence of the company, but they also learn that in a winner-takes-all game, love always comes out on top.

I loved this book! I have a serious weakness for alpha heroes who are instantly gone for their heroines, and Hem is exactly that. The Singh brothers are amazing and I can’t wait for the next book!
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
This book is filled with mystery, suspense, lust, and a woman who wants her family to accept her.
Mina is following in her mother’s footsteps and wants to keep her legacy alive. After her mother’s death, Mina’s uncles took over the law firm and it seems to be going downhill. So while Mina is doing her job, she wants to find out what wrongdoing her uncles are doing.
Hem never thought he would be back home to help save his father’s company. But here he is in the boardroom across from Mina and he wants to get to know her better. He sees the fiery, feisty, independent woman than makes him want more with her. And when Hem sees something he wants, he goes after it.
Can Mina and Hem save his father’s company? Will she find out just what her uncles are really up too? Will there be a future for Hem and Mina after they save the company?
This is a first for me from this author and I really enjoyed the story and can’t wait for the next one.

I’m a sucker for a good legal drama and The Takeover Effect delivered that and more!
Mina and Hem are both lawyers trying to save their family legacies only to realize that love is the most important legacy of all. I absolutely loved that Hem saw Mina and knew he wanted her and didn’t try to deny it. But I also loved that Mina made her boundaries clear and that he respected them.
The fast paced drama of the economic and corporate espionage was a perfect backdrop for the world of the Singh family. The South Asian cultural and religious exploration combined with the food porn, I dare you to read this and not crave the ability to smell and taste everything described!, help to create a family that you want to see win and love.
I can’t wait for more – I’m thinking Ajay and Raj might be next
Corporate espionage, a close knit Indian-American family, one spicy romance, and two strong-willed leading characters?! The Takeover Effect was a page turner! I loved so much about this book! The Singh family relationships, Mina’s sauciness, Hem’s protectiveness, and the unwavering determination of his parents to see him married off! I loved Hem and Mina a lot! One minute they could be butting heads and taking flak from one another. The next, they’re oozing pheromones and combustible chemistry! There were a lot of honest conversations and when secrets did come to light, I appreciated how Sharma didn’t drag out unnecessary drama. And as much as I enjoyed Hem and Mina’s romance-which was sexy and emotional in its own way- the corporate espionage thread had me glued! I can’t wait to read book 2!!
In her first contemporary romance novel The Takeover Effect, Nisha Sharma begins a series focused on the sons of Deepak Singh and their involvement in the company he created Bharat, Inc. We are introduced to the eldest son Hemdeep, or Hem, as he is called home in the face of a potential buy out that affects his fathers health. His return stateside also means that he is introduced to lawyer Mina Kohli with who he shares an instant attraction.
While this is a story that reads like a corporate espionage novel, it is most assuredly bolstered by the budding romance between Hem and Mina. These two have great spark and connection and are characters that are well developed with intriguing backstories. They share an intense sexual chemistry that oozes off the page. Sharma builds their emotional and intellectual relationship through their shared Indian culture; food and family traditions. However, this is balanced by their work relationship which is a source of great conflict. As are those family influences. Yes, there is a great cast of secondary characters with their own motivations and who drive the plot forward. Some good and some very, very bad.
Now that we’ve been introduced to this dynamic family, I look forward to getting to know them more. With books 2 and 3 on the distant horizon, and sons Ajay and Zail with their unique traits and appeal, I’m putting these on my TBR shelf now. Sharms’a writing is impeccable and a her storyline is very well researched and/or lived through. I happily recommend that readers get started with this series.
Gimme a hot, kara-wearing Sardar any time. Any day.
Loved this happy, fun book about an Indian-American family pulling together when it mattered. Hem was delicious. Did I mention that already?
Emotion and brains are front and center in The Takeover Effect. Mina and Hem have the smarts to turn their dreams into reality, but are lacking when it comes to matters of the heart. What happens when a business arrangement delivers more twists than they ever thought possible? Sometimes it takes getting out of one’s head long enough to find their heart’s desire. Sharma takes this tale in so many different directions, it’s sometimes hard to keep up, but the twists are hard to resist. The Singh Family series is off to a good start.
