For the first time in one elegant collector’s edition hardcover, and featuring an introduction by New York Times bestselling author Terry Brooks, here are the first three novels of that classic series: The Sword of Shannara, The Elfstones of Shannara, and The Wishsong of Shannara—the beginning of a phenomenal epic of good and evil. The Sword of Shannara Long ago, the wars of the ancient Evil … Shannara
Long ago, the wars of the ancient Evil ruined the world. In peaceful Shady Vale, half-elfin Shea Ohmsford knows little of such troubles. But the supposedly dead Warlock Lord is plotting to destroy everything in his wake. The sole weapon against this Power of Darkness is the Sword of Shannara, which can be used only by a true heir of Shannara. On Shea, last of the bloodline, rests the hope of all the races.
The Elfstones of Shannara
The magical Ellcrys tree is dying, loosening the spell that bars the Demons from enacting vengeance upon the land. Now Wil Ohmsford must guard the Elven girl Amberle on a perilous quest as she carries one of the Ellcrys’ seeds to a mysterious place where it can be quickened into a powerful new force. But dark on their trail comes the Reaper, most fearsome of all Demons, aiming to crush their mission at any cost.
The Wishsong of Shannara
An ancient Evil is stirring to new life, sending its ghastly Mord Wraiths to destroy Mankind. To win through the vile growth that protects this dark force, the Druid Allanon needs Brin Ohmsford—for she alone holds the magic power of the wishsong. Reluctantly Brin joins the Druid on his dangerous journey. But a prophecy foretells doom, as Evil nurses its plans to trap the unsuspecting Brin into a fate far more horrible than death.
Thus begins Terry Brooks’s thrilling Shannara epic, an unforgettable tale of adventure, magic, and myth.
BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Terry Brooks’s The Measure of the Magic.

I consider this the best of Terry Brooks’ trilogies. Have re-read this trilogy several times since the first one I got in the early 1980’s.
One of my favorites. The first book my mother ever read to me. I was captivated. I believe it is the most responsible for my love of stories. When I read it, I am Shea Ohmsford.
The beginning of a wonderful series demonstrating creative world building and wonderful fantasy reading.
Read this book series when I was in junior high back in 1983. Will have to reread to give a better review.
Opens up a whole new world. I love the characters and this author is one of my all time favourites. If you like fantasy fiction then this is definitely for you.
I have the whole series and further writings on my book shelf and have returned to them many times.
Loved it
I have read The Sword 14 times and will read it again. I love the fact that I can read all three of the first books again and again. I always cry when Allanon dies. Say what you will,,,this is a great series and to the naysayers…this is nothing like Lord of The Rings…if anything it is more like the Arthurian legend!
I like this series better than the “Ring” series.
One of the greatest fantasies of all time. World building at its best Brooks took each book almost as a stand alone book with a few ties to the previous books but new characters who are all imediately memorable and seem real as if they are someone you know.
One of the first novels I ever read– I just couldn’t get enough.
classic…bought it to re-read. Own original first editions but wanted to re-read on kindle
This is at least the fourth time i have read the series, and when i decided to read it again i cracked a big smile. I have heard it compared to Tolkien negatively but i disagree, I never felt the desire to read Tolkien more than once
Classic fantasy.
I read this series 30 years ago in high school. I thought it was a great book series then. They are timeless. I enjoyed rereading today.
If you enjoy fantasy reads, you should already have read this
This is one of the formative books of sword and sorcery fiction. It’s great to have the first three books in one collection. This is the story upon which the MTV series is based, but there are some major differences. Be prepared!
Sword of Shannara Triology is comprised of 3 of my all time favorite books. Can’t get better than this.
Thus series is so facinating that it inspired my husband, several friends and my children to all read it. In fact they have named video game characters and several pets after the characters. When you can get that much interest from ‘ barely’ readers, you know it’s a great series!!!!! I’ll be sad to see it end. Terry Brooks writes in a fashion …
The trilogy that started it all. These three and the “Word” trilogy are perhaps his best. The only problem I have with Brooks is – “read one, you’ve read them all.” He has a high tendency to repeat same story with moderately different characters/locations. Worth reading if you get them cheap.
Best fantasy books by best fantasy writer!!
