A man called Milton walks into town… Unarmed and alone, he flees into the remote Porcupine Mountains with a posse on his tail. His enemies thought they could hunt him down. That was a mistake and, where Milton is concerned, one mistake is all you get.

I can’t say enough about Mark Dawson’s amazing world of characters. I found him sort of by accident and am so glad to see he has become so successful. I would hate to never have another book about John Milton or Beatrix Rose! Make sure, if you pick one of his books up, though, that you have all night to read! You just can’t put them down!!
This is the fifth book in the John Milton series, but don’t let that put you off if you haven’t read the other four, because this is a real thrill ride from start to finish. And the best news is that for the next few days, it’s just $0.99/£0.99. If you’re an action thriller lover, that’s your weekend reading sorted out!
The John Milton series is new to this reader. But the character is one that a lot of people can relate to and the action is described in a manner that puts you into it quickly.
One book will have you desiring more. This one has Milton finding things are not what they seem. His vast experience is called upon in a way that he did not expect. …
Love Milton! Think a British Reacher.
There are many authors writing about Jack Reacher-like characters and I count Dawson among them. All of them fall short, but John Milton does not. Dawson doesn’t ever “phone it it” with the Milton books; they seem to get better every time. I have to wonder if this may have influenced to recent return to form by Lee Child. Milton is a bit more …
Too much worldly language and scenes.
didn’t`t care for it
I really enjoyed this book. Action packed.
This book is not the first in the series, but it was enough of a stand alone to get the idea. Untouchable veteran that beats the bad guys.
I bought this mainly because it was set in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, an area I am pretty familiar with. It starts out like reading the movie Rambo. Vet walking along the road, sheriff stops to escourt …
I have read every one of the John Smith books Dawson has written. All extremely well done.
Mark Dawson does it again. Another stellar John Milton book.
i love all of the John Milton series! they are action packed, never a dull moment. John Milton is an incredible personality. Very honorable honest and altruistic. i am carried along rooting for him at every word. The Sword of God is the best yet!!
I discovered John Milton as a “secondary” character in the Beatrix Rose novels (In Cold Blood). I enjoyed Mark’s stories about Beatrix, and enjoyed John Milton’s character, so I rushed to read 1000 Yards, and then The Cleaner, Saint Death, The Driver and Ghost. I always find myself staying up late to finish Mark Dawson’s books. I had been trying …
Good book.
If you like books where the bad guys get it in the end, this is a book for you.
If you haven’t read a book by this author you’re missing the opportunity to be mesmerized by this author’s literary excellence. I’ve been following his work for as long as he’s been writing, I’ve never read anything he’s written that didn’t have me glued to every word starting with the first page right to the last. If you’re interested in a fast …
This is the 1st book I’ve read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I Intend to read the rest of his books.
I liked it except that it was more violent than I’m used to, and there was a lot of foul language that I’m not fond of. But it had a good plot and moved fast. A real page turner.
I really enjoyed this book.
A fast and thrilling read. Character development is only so so but it was quite entertaining and a good diversion for the few days it took to read.
