I’ll admit it. I bought this book because I fell for the cover. That said, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a delightfully told tale with best friends, a hunk of a detective, and southern charm. And a murder, did I mention a murder? Great plot, wonderful characters, and a easy, pleasing writing style. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
The first book in a three book series with the main character, Elise. Each book can be read alone for a full mystery, but after meeting the sassy mouth on Elise’s best friend, Lavina, you will really enjoy to read about the mysteries they stumble into together. Easy and fun cozy mysteries to indulge in on a cold or rainy day!
Elise is comparable to a modern day Nancy Drew. She is very smart, full of compassion, and finds herself into troubles by helping others. She is recovering from a failed marriage and has come back home to Angel Lake to try and start her life anew. This first book finds her trying to clear her best friend from a murder charge.
A delightful mystery to steal away for a few hours in a warm chair with a cup or tea or coffee!
Enjoy
I enjoy reading this authors’ books they are never disappointing !
5 stars
I received a free copy of The Sweet Taste of Murder {Angel Lake Mystery # 1} by CeeCee James and this review was given freely.
This is a well written novel and a good introduction to the Angel Lake cozy mystery series. Cee Cee James’ series follows the pattern of soon to be divorced Heroine /Officer guy’s unrequited love, sweet romance, Heroine saves best friend, and Heroine solves the mystery before the Police by falling into trouble with the killer. The book is suspenseful, at times sad, and other times heartwarming. By the end of the story, I was so proud of Elise and both her mental and physical growth.
Clever mystery. I never suspected the bad guy
First read by this author and I loved it!
Loved the characters and the story entertaining
Language and content do not fit a cozy mystery.
I enjoyed this story. It kept the interest all the way through.
Interesting — and a setting that I really enjoyed
Good book, easy to read!
What a great mystery, I had no clue to “who” until the last chapter.
Great read look forward to more
Good characters. Enjoyable plot.
Enjoyed this writer’s ability to make her characters actions so natural.
Sometimes I just want a book to read that just entertains me. This was it. This book was just fun!
Enjoyable read.
Fun characters, twisting murder clues keep the story enjoyable and Elise gets to ponder who she is and who she wants to be while waiting for divorce papers.
Rambling, slow start. Author failed to hook my interest with any of her characters. Didn’t push past the second chapter.
Poor character development, not interesting. Sounded like a teen age writer trying too hard to write a book as a class assignment.
