I really liked the characters in this book! Jocelyn Fairley has gone through four London Seasons without gaining a serious suitor but she is willing to endure another Season if this will help her father become the new Prime Minister. So, this year she will concentrate on her father’s goal and then, next Season, Jocelyn will try to find a husband because she is truly ready for her own family. But suddenly, a suspected murder plot against the current Prime Minister becomes known and Jocelyn finds herself working with Grant Amesbury to prove that her father isn’t the person behind the threats.
I also liked Grant Amesbury and I found him very intriguing. He appears to be gruff and sometimes unlikeable but he is actually a very good person and time and time again he steps in to help others in need. And, in our heroine’s words, “He was, without a doubt, one of the most savagely handsome men she’d ever seen” and “belonged in the pages of a novel by her favorite author”. Yes, Jocelyn shared my fascination with Mr. Amesbury!
This book is the first that I’ve read by Donna Hatch and I truly enjoyed The Suspect’s Daughter. Hatch made me feel as if I was in London in 1820 and caught up in the mystery surrounding the Prime Minister. I also enjoyed the developing relationship between Jocelyn and Grant. He had sworn years ago that he would never again place himself under the power of a woman but he learns that this could definitely change because of Miss Fairley. They share an incredible chemistry and even though this is a clean romance, there are scenes that take your breath away!
The Suspect’s Daughter has mystery, suspense, and romance and it is a must-read if you enjoy stories about England and the Regency era. This is actually the fourth book in Hatch’s Rogue Hearts series but it can certainly be read as a standalone novel.
I received a complimentary copy from Loving the Book but I voluntarily chose to write this review.
The Suspect’s Daughter is the fourth installment from Donna Hatch’s series, Rogue Hearts. This is my favorite of the series to date. I felt a connection to Jocelyn right the start. I loved it when she was Grant. The action, adventure, mystery, suspense and romance were a perfect combination to the story.
I give The Suspect’s Daughter five plus stars. I am excited to find out that there is a fifth book in the Rogue Hearts series. I can not wait to find out what happens next.
Great read!
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my honest opinion.
Finally Grant’s story! He has been the mysterious Amesbury brother who shows up to help his brothers out of dangerous situations thus far in the series. Gotta love a covert operative!
How perfect for Grant to find himself inappropriately attracted to the daughter of his primary suspect in a plot to assassinate top parliamentary leaders.
The author writes plenty of intrigue, action, and building sensual desire into this story. The plot fits Grant perfectly! Fans of this series will love this unveiling of Grant’s issues and secrets, and the exceptional lady who restores his enjoyment of life.
I highly recommend this book to historical romance readers who like complex plots and characters. Oh, and of course the brothers (and wives) all show up for their reclusive, black sheep brother because that’s what families do! I love this series!
In the fourth book of Rogue Hearts series focus in on Grant Amesbury. He is investigating the main suspect of a planned assassination of the prime minister, and that puts him right in the company of Jocelyn Fairley.
When I started reading this series, this is the Amesbury brother I really wanted to find happiness. His experience with his father and in the war have left him hardened. Jocelyn, a character I identified with from the start, is the perfect compliment to him, being cheerful and happy most of the time. How they come to love each other, amidst an investigation and search for the truth, is a wonderful read.
Anyone who has read the first three books, or just enjoys a sweet romance, will love this book.
The characters in the Rogue Hearts series really come to life and Grant is no exception. As the dark and surly brother, he has physical and emotional scars that have him keeping everyone at a distance as he works to bring criminals to justice, even though the work is below his station. His point of view was fascinating as he struggles to stay indifferent to Jocelyn, a strong and poised daughter helping her father seek political election. She sees the good man he is behind his barriers of sarcasm and isolation, and humors him with wit and patience, and draws him out of his emotional isolation. I appreciated that the romance between them took time and grew slowly, they learned to like each other before they loved each other. The mystery of discovering who is behind the sinister plot to assassinate the prime minister keeps the plot moving forward swiftly and balances the emotional drama with action and excitement. There is also some subtle humor as Grant feels completely out of his element acting polite in society. My favorite of the series… so far! Can’t wait for the next two books which will feature each of the Amesbury sisters!
